Heavy stuff. But appropriate for the holiday weekend.

Such an amazing show.
I'm watching the 3rd season of the wire. I decided to skip the second half of the second season except for the last episode. Glad I did that because the 3rd season is rad. That said, the 4:3 aspect ratio is killing me.
WooHoo! HBO content is now available. It hadn't clicked with me that Band of Brothers and The Pacific would be included in this. Good stuff!
I've seen Brothers 3 times already but haven't seen the Pacific. Going to check that out.

Temper your expectations, IMHO Brothers is a much better cohesive story and ultimately the better mini-series.

Agreed 100%
But John Basilone's fight on Iwo Jima... goddamn.
Season 1 of The Wire is done. On to Season 2.
This is great stuff.
I searched but it looks like any threads about the show are from back in '06. Not sure I want to necro those, and I think they might have some spoilers anyway. This can just be the unofficial The Wire thread for the next month or so ok?
We've been getting into Orphan Black lately. Some aspects are a little tough to suspend disbelief over, but for the most part it's pretty good. And the main actress is pretty damned talented.

We've also been watching it. Our biggest issue is that we have to work and can't just binge watch it. Helloooooo weekend!
Everybody should check out the first season of Hannibal while you're at it.

Thanks for the heads up!! Awesome!!
Mystified that the streaming device that they're selling (Fire TV) doesn't allow you to stream the music. Just downright bizarre.

It's still the first day. Today's update for their app in the Google Play store doesn't yet have support for it.

I'm cautiously optimistic that they'll truly open up Fire TV for app development and leap past Roku, Apple TV, etc.
I don't own a Kindle tablet. How is the app ecosystem there?

Wowie wow wow. They're making it harder for me to not renew my Prime membership since the price has gone up.

Yeah, I've been browsing through the Prime Music catalog for about an hour now adding stuff to my library.

We do enough shopping annually to get $99 worth of shipping. Everything else is 'free'.

That's really cool, but the music selection is very limited at the moment. I just checked four bands that I listen to quite a bit on Spotify to see how many of their songs are on Prime Music. Those four bands have about 150 combined songs on Spotify, but only about a dozen of the songs are currently available for Prime Music, so less than 10% for the sample size that I chose. I'll be sticking with Spotify for now, but as a Prime member, I'm hopeful that Amazon aggresively adds more to this new service.
It's more a competitor to "radio" services like Pandora, Digitally Imported, Slacker, etc. than the completely controllable ones like Spotify Premium. As a throw-in, though, I won't complain.

But you can create playlists, similar to Spotify, from music in your library which can be populated by songs available for Prime Music. So my point stands that, currently, the songs available for Prime Music are not nearly enough to compete with my Spotify playlists. But if Prime Music ever gets to the point where at least 70% of the songs I currently have on my Spotify playlists is available to add to my library, which I hope it does, then I would gladly stop paying $10/month to Spotify.

But I cant see where you can share the playlists. When that happens is when i'll change over
You guys pay for Spotify?

Back when I signed up, the only way to stream music to a mobile device was the $10/month plan. I recently realized that's not the case anymore.
Also, I hate ads.

With extra emphasis for me.

Well, you can stream music on mobile for free, but it sounds like you can't listen to particular songs, and can only listen to artists/albums/playlists in shuffle mode. Which, really, is probably fine for mobile, and definitely better than it used to be. I might actually give that a whirl.
My beef with Spotify was that they would replace tracks added from my library with different (I assume approved/licensed) versions when listening on mobile or work PC or anywhere away from my home PC. I guess it's because they have to play the closest approximation to the track they can get, as it wouldn't be playing from the host library in those cases. But it still bugged me enough that I went with Google Music instead.
While Prime Music intrigues me, I can't really say there's anything there that would entice me compared to Google's offerings.

OMAR, NOOOOOO!
I don't even want to finish now.
Amazon is working on a pilot based on Philip K. Dick's story Man in the High Castle. Color me interested.
