Hidden Gems of Amazon Prime instant videos

Yep. Really enjoyed Bosch. I watch the title sequence nearly every time because it's so brilliant.

On a completely different note, looks like all seasons of Burn Notice are on Prime now. I enjoyed that show, silly as it was.

I started to find the main characters refusal to kill people himself but willingness to put his enemies in a place to get killed to be more than i could stand.

Cowboy Bebop complete collection(doesn't include movie) 9.99 on Amazon today.

"For certain definitions of complete"

Are you talking about Bosch or Burn Notice? I did not get the feeling about Bosch, at all. Really, quite the opposite.

Yeah, I meant Burn Notice sorry about the confusion!

Burn Notice is my go-to "I want popcorn entertainment today" show. I'm on season five or so.

I watched every episode of Burn Notice when it aired. It's just fun. Also I was a big fan of Fiona, so that helped keep bringing me back.

At the time I was also watching Dexter, and CSI Miami was also a thing, and I liked to imagine what life for a typical Miami resident was like with some many murders, serial killers and explosive chase scenes going on at once

Nice one Jayhawker, that opening is great. I am only sad I have nothing left to binge...

Just watched the first two episodes of The Gymkhana Files, which is a documentary about Ken Block's Gymkhana 10. Gymkhana, if you aren't aware, are his crazy car stunt runs that are hugely popular with 10's of millions of views on Youtube.

Pretty interesting so far if you're into this type of stuff. My wife couldn't watch a lot of the first episode where they showed how they did some of the Pike's Peak Climbkhana run. We'd just done that drive last year, so it was a bit too real for her to see his rear tires almost hang off a several hundred foot drop

They'll be releasing a couple of episodes a week, culminating with the release of the completed Gymkhana 10.

I’ll give it a try. Thanks.

I checked out The Gymkhana Files, but there was entirely too much jaw flapping for my taste. I wanted to watch multiple takes of Ken Block driving, not listen to directors wax lyrical about logistics. Plus the editing gave me a headache.

(the final pass at Evo Corner was pretty spectacular, though)

Concur.

The original WestWorld is on prime and is still a great movie.

Is this a new development? Great tip!

I want to say it was away fora while but it could have been Amazon being dumb as I found two options. One I could buy and one included in PRIME. Papa Bezos needs a new set of golden loafers

The new season of Mrs. Maisel releases on Dec 5,so I just started rewatching the first season. I forgot how much I love this show.

It's a documentary. Those generally include talking about how and why stuff was done, along with a little historical context.

We finished up Mrs Maisel the other night. It was really good, though different vibe than the first season. Spoiler thoughts on the season:

Spoiler:

I'm still kind of mixed on how much time they spent traveling around. I think 75% of the season was spent not in New York, and I wonder if that was to change things up, or if there was some kind of budget thing. I don't know if they were actually shooting on location in Paris and elsewhere, so I don't know if that budget thing might have been a higher budget, or if they faked the locations because of a lower budget because shooting in NYC was expensive.

I'm glad they gave the other characters more breathing room and opportunity to have their own character arcs. I do think Rose's ended early and didn't seem to really resolve. The elder Maisels also seemed to abandon the business to Joel surprisingly quickly. But overall, it was was a solid sophomore season.

One other tidbit I thought was great was Lenny Bruce. I knew he was an actual person, but I'm not familiar with his work at all. After we finished, I looked around to see if there was film footage of one of his sets. The first thing I found was an appearance on Steve Allen. Turns out that the scene in the finale is a truncated, but otherwise exact recreation of his appearance on the show. The lines, mannerisms, even the way he picked up the stool to go to the piano, were basically perfect copies. It was a really neat thing to see.

If you like smart, funny writing and haven't watched this show yet, you're missing out.

Spoiler:

They did indeed film on location in both the Catskills and in Paris. I really loved the season, particularly Zachary Levi. The only thing I wish they'd do is have Joel fly into the damn sun. The Palladinos seem to be obsessed with their lead character returning repeatedly to a destructive relationship.

I loved season 2 of Mrs. Maisel. Thought they broadened the scope of the show just enough. I liked the deeper look into her parents. Also it just was hilarious throughout and brilliant performances by all involved.

Also, I just found out that all six seasons of Corner Gas has been added to Prime. I love this Canadian sitcom and often complain that not enough people know about it. It's just the right blend of charming, clever and silly. Here's just a brief taste; the first minute of the first episode.

If anyone is looking for holiday films, The Man Who Invented Christmas is on Prime. It's the untrue but charming story of how Charles Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol.

I haven't seen it yet, but I intend to, and that right quick.

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone mention Patriot yet- I’ve noticed it while browsing for the last year or so but ignored it due to the name, assuming it was another hoo-rah eevil mooslems yay america show. Earlier this week I heard an interview with the creator of the show on a podcast and ended up devouring both seasons in three sittings... it’s a ridiculous, dark, meditative spy thriller/comedy about struggling with depression under impossible circumstances. I can not recommend it enough- it’s by far my favorite of the Amazon Originals.

Yeah, I caught into this recently, too. Only through the first two episodes, but love it so far.

I loved season one. Haven't started two yet.

I don’t know if it’s been “officially” picked up yet but the creator did say in the interview that he’s currently writing season 3.

Patriot season one was so good, with excellent writing, acting, and production quality. It would have fit in perfectly at HBO. Just tops.

Been on a Russian propaganda holiday weekend. Loving some of these Russian WW2 shows. So far I've watched Order of Victory and Snow and Ashes and thought they were great. Up next Life and Fate.

I have to say that I'm surprised by the quality of these Russian shows Bezos must love so much (why else would Amazon have so many?). I watched Katerina and Sophia previously and they were awesome.

Also, I've been waiting for Star Trek Discovery to be released on Amazon streaming and it finally has. So I bought that and will watch this coming weekend.

Now I need to combine the two and watch a Russian knockoff of Star Trek.

Thanks for recommending Patriot guys. It's so good. It's like if Wes Anderson made a spy show and could write more than two kinds of characters.

It makes me both happy and sad.

Damn, we just finished binging Homecoming, and it was a doozy of a story. Julia Roberts was outstanding, as was the production.

Sam Esmail, the Mr. Robot creator directed and produced the series, and it did have a Mr. Robot feel to it.

It’s 10 episodes long, and oddly, the episodes run at just about 30 minute, but they pack a punch. I didn’t realize it at the time, but, apparently the series was created as a radio play and distributed as a podcast.

Definitely worth a binge.
