DCS (Digital Combat Simulator) Catch-All

That's great, but fully half of that "trailer" was just a black screen. Coming in 2022, so maybe 2024.

Their FAQ says 2022 and they also say that to simplify matters they're doing each variant as a separate module. Their work on the Tomcat and the Viggen's probably making this go faster, as well. I might break my one fast jet a year rule for this and the Strike Eagle.

Yeah, I think Heatblur have, if anything, a reputation for over delivering. Not hugely into fast jets, myself, but I've demoed the Tomcat and it's obviously a suberb module. Here's hoping the F-4 is similarly spectacular and ships on time.

Soooooooo I thought DCS was a modern flight sim? What the hell is going on here? Do they actually have WWII planes and tanks, or did people mod them in?

Not at all, they have planes like the P-51D, P-47D, I-16, and even acrobatic biplanes. They even have a specific WWII Asset pack. A lot of these things have been around since 2012.

Good LORD I just looked at their site. I am trying to imagine how much it'd cost to have all the bells and whistles for DCS.

According to Steam, $2,853.01. But I think there are some addons on the main DCS site that are not on Steam.

And fan modders throw in even more out of the blue aircraft, like the Wright Brothers' airplane and a hot-air balloon:

Most relaxing flight I've ever had.

This made me curious so I added up my account history. Apparently, I have spend USD$770.75 on DCS. That sounds scary, but then the first purchase was in 2015, so I guess it's still cheaper than a WoW subscription.

If you can mount a GAU-8 on it, I'm buying the game today.

Mount it backwards. Should give much better thrust than the original powerplant.

Folks, I'm jumping back into DCS after a long hiatus. Anyone still flying? Would love to do some co-op once I get settled back in.

I'm on sabbatical until the Strike Eagle goes into EA.

They've announced a Kola Peninsula map. Should be familiar to anyone who flew Microprose flight sims in the late 80s/early 90s.

I got that email! Seems crazy they can model that.

It started off as a fan mod and pretty much every Youtube content creator for DCS said, "Why are you giving this out for free?"
