Assassin's Creed 3 Catch-All

There's always enough in the base games for me to consider my $60 well spent. Still definitely buying, this year, might wait and buy the Wii U version if it'll be available at launch.

That's the thing, I know there's plenty in the base games, I've previously bought some at full price and felt they're worth the money. The trouble is those barriers that make me think what other games I could be spending my money on (they're not the only game in town), and remind me that I can easily wait and save. For what is (IMO) a single-player focused game, I don't mind that wait.

This is where I am at as well. As long as no achievements are attached to it, I don't really care what the bonus content looks like.

Personally, I just never bought any of the DLC, and I freaking LOVE Assassin's Creed (preordered the most expensive edition of every single game I could and played through it immediately, probably doing most side missions). But that's just me.

I figure the main reason they do all this is to offer exclusivity deals to every retailer in exchange for in-store placement or promotion. None of the bonus missions I've ever gotten have been that substantial and I'm sure that's the case again.

Jumping on a game right away is the WORST idea financially. The timed-exclusive DLC is just the poop cherry on the poop sundae; you should already know that even with zero DLC, you're going to get a way better deal on any given game by waiting a year.

That said, this is all still super confusing and annoying as I try to make the best purchasing choice, and I've changed preorders twice as new options came to light. I wish I had a better solution, though, than "tsk tsk Ubi just take the hit and don't give out timed exclusives" or "tsk tsk retailers, don't be so greedy and insist on exclusives."

That makes clear to me how much Ubi is making sure they keep retailers happy, and presumably that they find that important enough to mess around with their leading franchise. I wonder if they've got a deal where they agree not to push used copi... ahahahah, I couldn't bring myself to finish that one. I bet it's a one-way relationship, and Ubi aren't the one 'wearing the trousers'.

OK, f*ck that. I'm officially not buying this until I can get it for $10. That's complete bullsh*t.

They usually release those levels as DLC much later. If I can resist I think I'll wait until then so I can get the full experience.

Pretty much what I just did with AC:R

If by 'full experience' you mean 'short parkour level that has no bearing on the narrative' then yes. They've only really done this with Revelations, (unless you count the MP skins that came with Brotherhood as part of the full experience as well) and it was just that: a short parkour level that had no bearing on the narrative, and the only reward you got was the pre-order bonus weapon.

Actually, there were some Gamestop exclusive maps (or maybe they were CE, I don't recall) in AC2, but, like you said, they were short and had no bearing.

Not getting them is annoying, but in this case, I'll be fine with it.

Since I'm finally getting around to playing AC:B, and have Rev coming in from the Best Buy sale, I'm both remembering why I liked AC so much, and wishing I could try the multiplayer. I have both B and R on the 360 (though in retrospect, I should've gotten R on the PS3), and I let my gold sub lapse since I don't play MP, so unless I want to re-up for a month, no MP for me.

I'm debating whether I want to get AC3 at launch on the 360 to play MP with buds at launch, or just wait and write off the MP as something I won't bother with. Given my track record with not playing MP very long in any game, I should probably do the second thing.

You should really check it out. At its core, AC MP is a great hide-n-seek game with several variants. Unfortunately, given the desire to add more and more to each iteration, I fear it will become somewhat bloated in the latest iteration. For example, in AC2:R, the most popular game play mode was "Deathmatch" which lost a lot of the tension found in the "Wanted" format.

Aaaand it's dead. That was fast.

I saw that, but because I'm a crazy person didn't buy it. I'm curious if they'll be asking for the additional $45, or if that was legitimate.

Word is they're starting to just cancel the orders.

That's not surprising at all. I put in an order because it was risk-free, but I figured they'd just cancel all of them by the end of the day. Awaiting my cancellation notice.

I'm happy not giving money to Walmart, even if it's a great deal.

I feel sorry for the guy who effed that up.

Wha?

So how much interest is there in the multiplayer here? IIRC, previous AC games had pretty good multiplayer but it didn't have a lot of staying power. I'm leaning towards the PS3 version because I intend to eventually get the Vita game once Vitas are cheap enough that I can convince myself to buy one.

Some. I really loved AC:B MP, but connecting to a game was such a rare and blessed occurrence that I just gave up. If they've improved the matchmaking whathaveyou sufficiently, I'll likely play more.

I eventually shied away because I fell behind the curve. It's no fun when everyone else has all these awesome abilities you can't counter.

I was late to the game on AC:B's multiplayer but loved it. AC:R's I played to level 50 and abruptly stopped. It was great but basically the same as Brotherhood. I'll play AC III's for certain. Not sure how long for though.

Still hoping that they release on all 3 platforms at the same time. Not looking forward to the dreaded "Oh the PC needs more polish for a month" statement.

Oh, man. I can't believe I have to be the one to break this to you.

That already happened.

*sigh*

Yeah, knew it was coming I guess. Far out. Do they really believe that releasing on the PC at the same time would be so bad?

Gnaaaaa!!!! I can't wait! I must play this now. Time to buckle down, finish Brotherhood and Revelations, and be ready when this comes out in November.

I still need to play Revelations. There is so much on my pile/plate right now, however, that I'm going to wait till it's really cheap ($10-$20). I think I got some Steam coupons that bring the price down to $25. Still not low enough to get me to bite.

On the same boat... Still have a long ways to go in Revelations.... I'm determined to finish it before AC3.

Matchmaking was definitely improved from AC:B --> AC:R, at least on 360. I had many a times on Brotherhood where I would be stuck in searching for a match for upwards of 10minutes. Revelations would always get a match in 1min or so. We did notice that we would have varying results depending on how many people were in our party.

The XP curve on Rev was also much improved. I put in less time in the MP in Rev but was able to reach max rank and then some. They also started doing 2x XP weekends as well.

They must have the longest signs ever.

First DLC is announced, and the internet rages because it's apparently better if they don't tell us about DLC until after the game has come out.

Oh, internet. Never change.

I don't think I'll get it, though--that level of alternate history is over my particular line for the sorts of outlandish things I want from AC. I prefer the "Secret History Hidden in Plain Sight" level.
