Assassin's Creed 3 Catch-All

Honestly surprised how much I'm enjoying it, given that I've never really been a big fan of the series. I enjoyed the first a lot, 2 was decent, Brotherhood was good, and I skipped Revelations. There is just something about this one.

And apparently, I'm still in what's considered the "tutorial" phase, I guess (just got the hidden blades as Connor). Shouldn't be long til I get to don my assassin hoodie, circa 1775.

Agreed 100%. My wife and daughter are huge fans, but I've never really been taken by it myself. I think it is a great series, but just not exactly what I want. I would play through sections with my wife, and watched most of the games with her playing. So I'm familiar with the franchise.

I installed it to the hard drive last night and inputted the pre-order and multiplayer codes, as I usually do. The idea was to have it set-up and ready to go. But I started the game last night to have a look, and I had to force myself to turn it off. I'm loving the storytelling so far, overuse of cutscenes or not. I'm anxious to delve back in.

I'm glad to hear it, as I'm not much of a fan of the series as well. The playstation UK review made it seem like it is going to be more of everything I don't like about the Assassin's Creed games (repetitive mission structure, Eavesdropping with annoyingly bad AI) but from what I've seen the setting seems to be something I really want to explore.

So for those who have played it...

Are there good virgin forest environments? (Though I'm not sure if there would be virgin forest in the areas the game covers...)

Are there American Chestnuts rendered to the proper scale (i.e. friggin' huge)?

Or did they just make the woods look like they do in this day and age?

Kind of a silly thing to be asking I know, but it makes the difference between "grab at earliest opportunity" and "wait until I can catch up on the rest of the series."

I played a few rounds of MP last night. They make you do three different tutorial rounds, and at first I was encouraged because they do a much better job of explaining the mechanics than they did in Brotherhood (the last MP version I played). But then in my two real games, it seemed to come down to random chance for who got to kill/stun whom, just like the old version. Disappointed in that, but I still want to play more MP (as well as SP, which rocks despite my missions' tendency to end in bloodbaths).

You guys are enabling me on this. Storyline wise is it a must that I play through this copy of Brotherhood sitting on my desk?

The game opens with a short movie that offers a more coherent version of the story than anything I can remember from any of the other games.

I love that it's optional in many missions to have no kills, but I've decided that if it's not fun or I'm tired, face-stabbing is an effective method to assist me.

If nothing else, youtube the narrative stuff. I find the in-animus story to be completely separate, but the out-of-animus stuff still ties together across the series.

I'm not sure I can answer that, since I don't know.

I will say, however, that the tree-running mechanic is seriously cool, and running, jumping and climbing feels much smoother than previous titles. Also, I've yet to take any fall damage, which I'm fine with. Being able to dive off rooftops into a roll is also a welcome addition. Much better parkour all around.

I was hoping to get this game first, but I got dishonored. Oh Well, I guess I'll beat Dishonored and then get assassins creed hopefully. I really wanna play it. it looks awesome.

Was anybody able to save the guy in the river without touching the water? I really seems like there's only one place where it's possible but I can't get there in time because of the stupid wolves.

And I'm out of the spoilery thread, too.

It's doable, cuz those large rocks don't count.

I didn't run into any wolves.

Yah guys, seriously could you all be a bit more mindful of spoilers? This is release week! I have never seen a thread go to the dark side this fast.

You guys are funny! Har har har!

Seriously, though, I'll put spoiler tags over anything that's not super general, like ruddy cougar attacks or guys falling into rivers.

Could you specify? I've only seen pants' one. And even that, you find out five minutes in (I would have tagged it myself anyway).

I ask because if it was posted, the person probably doesn't realize the issue and will continue doing so.

Wrapped on Sequence 6 tonight.

Spoiler:

Loving the historical sequences so far. Boston Massacre and Boston Tea Party were amazing.

Also, spoiler'd what might have been a spoiler on the first post of this page, only to realize it had been quoted a few times. Not sure if that's spoilers or not, to be honest - seemed basic Assassin Creed understanding.

I am honestly baffled as to what wouldn't count as a spoiler if "the game set in Massachusetts had rivers in it" counts as a spoiler.

I hate to say this, but I'd avoid reading ANYTHING until after you get to a certain point(that point will be painfully obvious).

For Revelations they added an 'honourable kill' mechanic where, if you both hit the button at the same time, you'd get a hit in before being killed and would receive a few points. Your killer wouldn't receive the full score for a kill. That was a bit of an improvement.

Second night of playing...

Spoiler:

...still NOT Conner.

Grr.

With receiving this late and then taking the kids out to trick or treat last night, I was only able to put about 45 minutes into the game.

1st impressions -

The system update is impressive. This is a gorgeous game. Water, lighting, all that jazz - this game looks great. Climbing still feels the same. Haven't had any combat yet, so I can't speak to that yet. Can't wait to play more tonight.

Likewise,

Spoiler:

although I'm frickin' loving Haytham as a character. Connor can just wait his damned turn and like it.

Yeah, lots of stabby-stabby going on. Why people are complaining about the early game is beyond me - this has been fantastic stuff so far.

I did have two bugged missions as part of the tutorial. A quick "start at last checkpoint" fixed everything but some of the scripting just plain broke.

I've had 1 issue like that, and at least 1 (maybe 2) hard locks.

I'm especially enjoying the database entries this time around. The bit about the Boston Massacre being a victory for bald men made me laugh out loud, despite my full head of luxurious hair.

I can't believe the

Spoiler:

nautical

stuff is actually full-fledged, totally controllable. I was sure it'd be canned. What a treat.

Down goes sequence 7.

Spoiler:

These battles are great - really enjoying the character introductions and the scenery, as well.

People weren't lying about the chases. I spent several real world minutes tonight being chased and instantly re-spotted by about ten soldiers. Breaking line of site and hiding does no good if they sprint right to you. What a mess.
