E3 Press Conference Microsoft 2012 Catch-All

I don't own an XBox so this event doesn't really interest me that much. However, I wouldn't put it past them to announce some game related thing for Windows 8 today.

I doubt it. There's already the xbox companion app which might get a mention, but besides that W8 is already at the release candidate stage, and will go gold within 2 months. Unless there's something that's due to come after W8 as an extra download I can't see them adding anything now.

To be bluntly honest, I'd also fear them adding anything W8 exclusive. DX10 being exclusive to Vista (and onwards) probably wasn't a great move at the time whether there were technical reasons for it or not. GFWL still needs a lot of work, not to make it awesome but just to bring it up to an acceptable minimum standard. I'm not sure they can really do much in terms of announcing games, as that's in the realm of companies with PC developers, and why would they need MS at this point? Maybe they'll plug a MS Flight add-on if we're lucky.

Brief addition to the Halo discussion: The franchise did a lot of cool sh*t with the first game, especially if you were meh on shooters (the only ones I really played before Halo were Aliens vs. Predator 2 and Medal of Honor: Frontline). Halo did a lot of cool stuff, and most of all brought back couch co-op that just spoke so much to my brother and I at the time period.

Halo 2 also did some cool things, but that's when they started making Master Chief ridiculously ridiculous. Doesn't help that one of the Bungie co-founders and co-creators of Halo left to form Wideload games before Halo 2, either. After Halo 2, the remaining co-creator was more a producer and less of a writer, and that's just one reason why Halo 3 was balls in comparison with the other games. Not to mention the writing got worse over time.

Halo: Reach has some nice campaign gameplay more in line with the first game, and therefore I appreciate it. But now that Bungie is completely out and they're already bringing Covenant back in a teaser that looked intended to leave Covenant out of it, well... I dunno.

All I know is I'm hoping for at least one thing to interest me.

I sure would love a Monster Hunter on the 360... *fingers crossed*

Not that I actually think it'll happen, but I can still dream!

Not sure about MoH but AvP2 wasn't considered a great FPS according to many. I wonder if your opinion would've been different if you had played Half-Life, Quake or Unreal instead...

I expect part of the conference to be kinect and Xbox live app stuff, which is boring. Obviously halo 4, then a lot of it will be 3rd party games, like borderlands 2, maybe black ops 2, darksiders 2, etc. Also some new gow and maybe more of that other epic game they teased last year. What would be cool is seeing the new game from respawn, but that might be saved for ea. I would also be Interested in seeing some upcoming Xbox live titles.

I think Black Ops 2 will open the MS conference, a longer trailer than we've seen and then the announcement that 360 gets the preferential treatment in terms of DLC, again.

I believe when they announce a new Skylanders game, my kids will hear it at school almost a mile away and run home screaming to watch it.

The traditional thing is a live play session for CoD games at the MS show. I assume this year we'll see the same.

Wonder if Sony or MS will get the MoH demo? I'd bet Sony due to their BF3 relationship, but we'll see. If MS has CoD, Halo 4, and MoH, that will be pretty deep into the hardcore shooters, when I'm really expecting more entertainment focus in their show, with room left for Kinect.

Would they put two 'competing' shooters in the same show?

My prediction: Depending on how much you love your Xbox the conference will end up somewhere between forgettable and "I wanna f*cking shoot myself in the head" bad.

The MS conferences have been terrible every year that I've watched them. Why I am considering doing that to myself again this year is beyond my comprehension.

There is one, but it wasn't localized for North America. No one thought North American audiences would be interested.

Like Halo 4 and Black Ops 2? Because those two will also be coming out much closer together than usual as I understand it.

MoH is iffy to be at MS, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I was more referring to the EA-Activision pissing match that happens every year in some form.

Joystiq is running a post about PS3 getting 2 weeks exclusivity on BF3 DLC, so I'm guessing we'll be seeing MoH at Sony's event.

You know they have some time ago, right?

In light of the upcoming Steel Battalion, I'd like to see some new Kinect games that are designed for gamers, rather than to demonstrate a gimmick to children and the elderly.

I'm expecting some footage and actual figures; the kids know it's coming, but I suspect the actual physical figurines will make them squee with delight.

This, except I'm definitely planning on watching it. The reason is that I just can't give up on the idea that E3 is awesome, I don't own a PS3 and I don't trust Nintendo anymore. I love my 360, so even though I expect some lame as hell Kinect BS, here we go.

Also: Do the people who want to kick phantom soccer balls with the Kinect even tune in to E3?

Did you try the demo of that? I thought it was pretty awful and that's not even considering the forced profanity. The dialog is swears with a few linking words. I guess that makes it an adult Kinect game. :\

I'm excited about today's Ubisoft presentation. Supposedly they have good Rocksmith news. Sorry, I know this is the MS catch-all but I play Rocksmith on the 360.

I had a chance to play a demo at PAX East, and once I got the hang of the motion controls, it was really cool. I was hoping that they sped up the hand positioning for the full demo/game, since that was my only real sticking point, but I haven't downloaded the demo off of Live; is there still a delay between moving your hand to the right place and the game seeing it?

Probably not, but the places they get their news from (ie. CNN, Forbes, USA Today, etc.) probably have some presence there.

I don't own a Kinect, so no, no I did not. I still give them credit for trying. It's not a matter of adult dialog so much as Microsoft finally letting a company make a game that uses both the Kinect and a controller, so that the Kinect could hypothetically enhance the gameplay rather than replace the perfectly serviceable we're used to.

If MS really wants to sell me a Kinect, they'll stay on that path until they get it right.

This is the deal. Good Morning America and Today sell a lot of consoles to a lot of parents. Whiz bang stuff like the Kinect makes it an easy story for them to cover, just like it did with the Wii.

It may not be a demographic we car about here, but it's a wealthy one.

And there's more of them than us. EDIT: Hence why demoing the Kinect on Oprah was a huge deal.

More importantly, however, the people that are interested in Microsoft making money off of those folks are watching E3.

I have stated in IRC and I will repeat here. The thing I am most looking forward to about the Microsoft E3 conference is no new console.

It would be cool if they let me use android or IOS for some connectivity, but I don't see that happening.

Anyone find a high def stream?

Get WP7 phone already! How can you pass up those achievements? And it's a great OS to boot!

I am kicking myself in the butt for getting an iPhone for my work phone.
