Don't Surrender, It's Just the Pile

Pages

Another month has passed us by. Some of us are making excellent progress and some of us are barely scraping along. Some of us (me) can't seem to get our butts in gear. I hear there's a game about the Devil coming out in about 2 weeks. Resist the temptation and keep chipping away at the pile. I know I will (just don't look for me on Battlenet).

If you're interested, m0nk3yboy, has the 12 month pile plan thread over here.

A quick reminder, in order to be considered "Pile of Shame" the game needs to be at least three months old. Otherwise, it's just a new game you haven't gotten to playing yet.

Also, if you are curious about some of the previous threads, Pick's of the Pile, etc... Please go here and check out the Google doc I setup.

Let's get on to the games!

This month's Pick of the Pile is

Captain America: Super Soldier

"The enemy is using advanced weaponry in Europe that we've traced to Castle Zemo, in the Bavarian mountains, a medieval fortress controlled by Hydra and augmented by modern defenses. Captain, your objective is to infiltrate Castle Zemo and disable its anti-aircraft guns, allowing us to airdrop the Invaders to open the way for our bombers." (Sega)

Carrying forward Dragon Age:Origins (360) from April. Right on the cusp..

Sam and Max Season 3 Ep 01. PC

First Telltale game! Anyone got a ranking in terms of quality of the various tell tale properties? As I'm liking this so far.

Well I already pre-ordered Torchlight 2 so hopefully I can resist.

Still working on Xenoblade though. At this rate, it will be eligible for the pile before I finish.

Put me down for Assassin's Creed II and Portal 2.

Time to get serious about my pile again.

My plan for May:

Unreal Tournament 3: Black Edition (PC/multi) - I'm near the end of chapter 4, but the friendly bot AI on the warfare maps is keyboard-over-monitor-smashing frustrating. On Onyxcoast you supposedly have 3 allies, but two of them always drive the Leviathan and get stuck, and are out for the entire map. That leaves the player and one bot to take on 6 enemies.

Delta Force: Blackhawk Down (PC) - It's supposed to be short. So far it's stupid, but passable (though not very respectful to the source material).

Silent Hill 2 (PC/multi) - my "long" project for the month.

The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (Gameboy Color) - Second dungeon down. Six to go, I guess.

I have not played The Walking Dead (sounds like a home run), Jurassic Park (apparently a dud), nor the CSI games.

Of what I have played, I feel that Sam & Max season 3 is the best. Right on its heels are Back to the Future and Tales of Monkey Island. Then there's a noticeable drop down to Sam & Max seasons 1 and 2, Wallace & Gromit, and Strongbad's Cool Game for Attractive People. Bringing up the rear is the unfinished Bone trilogy - Telltale's first adventure game outing (not counting CSI?).The second Bone game is far superior to the first, but they can both be skipped.

In the interests of not getting you to 'multiple edit' the list on my behalf this month I'm going to go large, and possibly fail on some, rather than aim low and then get you to add a whole bunch of titles through the month.

All titles on 360 (for me) unless otherwise stated:
Bee Movie Game
Captain America, Super Soldier
Kinect Joy Ride
Rayman Origins
Sonic Generations
X-Men Destiny

I'll also chip away at BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend, but that will be more like light snacking between main meals.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning hits three months old May 7th. I'm trying to finish the main story and faction quests (f the billion sidequests and DLC) before it's four months old, or before Torchlight 2 drops.

I'd also like to start Arkham Asylum this month, but I don't know how long it is or how close I'll be to finishing it.

ClockworkHouse -- "Persona 3 Portable or bust!"

Good man! I've slowly been chipping away at that for awhile now--on the PS2, PSP, and (most recently) the PS3 since they released FES on the PSN

...ABCDEFG...Just figured I'd need some more letters in there.

For me, this month with consist of the following 360 games:

Shadows of the Damned
Alan Wake
Syndicate

And, since I'm just so damn close to the end anyway, figure I'd throw the Starcraft 2 SP campaign on there too I'm also considering livestreaming/recording my progress in a "Let's Play" type fashion just as a way to motivate me to keep with it.

Put me down for Super Mario Land 3D (3DS). I think I can knock this out of the park before the end of the month despite the presence of Diablo III and Xenoblade.

Put me down for Portal 2 as well.

I liked Sam & Max and Tales of Monkey Island. Those are the only two I've played, though.

Edit:

Also, put me down for Driver: San Francisco on the 360. I'm not all that far in, but I'm having a metric ton of fun!

Persona 3 Portable for me as well!

Ugh, damn you guys for talking about P3P! I *just* took a break from that and now I want to go back to it. Maybe next month.

Put me down for Pokemon Sapphire (GBA). I'm about 45 hours in, with I think maybe 5 to 10 left. I should be able to knock that out in between bouts of Xenoblade.

According to the game statistics, I hit 70% completion of I Am Alive last night with about 5ish hours total. I think I can easily have that beaten by tomorrow night, though I'm a bit sad about that. I may have to return to the game at some point after beating it as it is such a delight. I've actually been disappointed in the complete lack of discussion on here about it, as it seems like there's a lot to discuss in terms of strategy, exploration and even a couple of spoilers.

I'm reserving Xenoblade for the time being as my weekend game for when the house is empty and I can afford to dedicate several hours at a time to it. Due to the release of The Avengers this weekend, that's probably not going to happen. I don't expect the game to be completed, either. It's a long-term goal.

As I Am Alive is almost done, I'm hoping to push through Warhammer: Space Marine after that. Depending on how long that takes I'll either try to pick out another short game in my pile, possibly an XBLA game like Vandal Hearts, or I'll make some more gradual process in Kingdoms of Amalur. Basically something to spend time on until Dragon's Dogma is out

I completely failed to even touch El Shaddai last month. I made the mistake of just starting Mass Effect 3, just trying it out, simply dipping my toes, and... yeah, well, I don't think I'll be playing else until it's done. I'll have to circle back to the pile later, and at the rate I'm going, I don't know if I'll do that in May.

If it takes me two months to finish a game, I have no hope of clearing the pile. I've got to stop playing RPGs.

Put me down for Catherine on 360, please. Let's see if my judgement of Minarchist was warranted or not.

The presence of Xenoblade and Diablo III this month make it pointless for me to declare Final Fantasy XIII -- it'll probably have to wait several months, what with even more games I want coming out in June.

Thanks to 2 separate occasions of me losing and hour or more (estimate I lost 2.5hrs total) and a few other life gets in the way things, I didn't finish 3D Dot Game Heroes, but I'm at the final temple now, so put me down to finish it. I started 11 months ago now!

The first loss of progress was due to a full system freeze on a loading screen and the 2nd was last night we randomly lost power for 4 hrs.

Lesson: Even on console games, I need to save often. Then again, this seems to be the first game in a long while that didn't autosave every so often.

After that, I've gotta decide between a number of games including Bioshock 2, The Baconing, and Enslaved.

Syndicate

That one is real close. It came out in the end of February, so it's not technically 3 months old yet.

This falls into the same category as above. It's even newer. Do you just want to go with Space Marine?

Ohh crap, that's right Hemidal--forgot about the three month rule. I can just as easily switch out Syndicate for something else....saaayyyyy.....Gears of War 3. I can put Syndicate on there for next month, no worries.

Ah, I thought the thread was more or less a generic "Here's what I'm working on this month". In which case, yes, plug Space Marine on the list.

Sounds like the point is in the mountains and you're headed out to sea.

Go ahead and play what you feel most compelled to play, not what fits the pile progress parameters.

Hell, honestly my pile is so big I could pick ANY game and I'd feel compelled to play it

Technically still working on Spacechem (PC) this month, but actually, my gaming time for the month of May is extremely sparse as I go into dissertation crunch-mode. See you all in June!

I cant seem to escape the black hole that is Jagged Alliance BIA. I am nearing 200 hours and my wife is considering intervention.

That said should I break the lock on my PC that JAIBIA (silly I know) is, I plan on taking on Max Payne 2

I've got to carry forward Assassin's Creed 2: Brotherhood. I'm >90% done, so I should be able to wrap that up in plenty of time for the ides of May Diablo III drop.

Does Bastion qualify? I don't remember when it came out and I'm too lazy to look it up. If it qualifies, you can put me down for that. I needed to find something that could be finished before the 15th.

It's definitely older than 3 months, so it should.

I have no concept of time.
