Cyberpunk Catch-All

They've released updated system requirements that include ray tracing setups. As many suspected, the relatively modest requirements they released before were quite misleading because they didn't account for the game's most-touted graphical feature. Not surprising but still disappointing.

well reading that I'm finally seeing my PC specs more in the "minimum" range than a recommended. Time to start thinking about an upgrade I guess

I think we’re a long way off from ray tracing being an assumed feature for system requirement purposes. Right now the only cards that can reliably run the feature are nearly impossible to buy.

Well, the game's been marketed for a couple of years now as a showcase of ray tracing, and the system requirements they released before had ray tracing-capable cards in its higher tiers, so I don't think it would have been unreasonable for people to interpret that to mean those were the specs to run the game with ray tracing on.

Even now these specs are ambiguous. The non-RT 1440p UItra spec and the RT Medium 1080p spec both recommend the same GPU, an RTX 2060. So setting aside ray tracing, how do the two presets (if we're assuming that's what they are) compare? Are other graphical details being turned down to compensate for the load of ray tracing on the RT medium spec? This also doesn't specify whether DLSS is being used for Nvidia cards.

Release times confirmed. Global release for PC @ midnight GMT, consoles are midnight local time. Preloads starting between now and December 8.

I'd like to say I'm gonna try be silly and stay up super late Wednesday night playing after it releases at 9pm, but in reality I'll probably fall asleep on the couch after 20 minutes.

Well, they got Horse Heaven correct.

Of all the things I worry about about the game the map has never been one.

I am hoping the game is good but this is still a wait and see from me. I am afraid they are crunching their team and rushing this game.

I'm afraid they're trying to pack everything into the initial release. Like a trailer for their extensive photo mode.

They sure seem scared their game won't live up to the hype by being less than perfect on release. I can't decide if that's laudable or condemnable.

Do we have footage of folks playing the game normally and not semi-scripted?

Been watching a Youtube lore series. This was the Nomad map from the 2020 tabletop game. Just thought it was neat to see how the US was broken up.

Where is Night City supposed to be? Is it a Vegas analogue? LA analogue?

The top-left corner of the No Go So Cal sign is pointing at it.

Ahh there it is! hiding. looks like theres not much of anything there IRL. San Luis Obisbo is kinda close?

SLO is more of a Silent Hill kind of place.

I'm hoping they're trying to avoid issues that have plagued other recent releases (like CoD, WD Legion, etc) on newer hardware, like console restarting, corrupted save files, etc.

I adore the setting so much, I just don't want any game-breaking bugs on my Series X.

They haven't even announced dates for PS5 / Series X|S versions yet have they?

Bets on an Enhanced Edition a year from now?

I picked it up on GoG because if history is anything to go by that means any and all future updates are just kinda free. Also the devs apparently get a bigger cut if you purchase it there, which makes sense.

Side bet on how many of us double dip?

2021. Still. Clearly a post-launch after knocking out bugs from release thing.

It's just an enhancement patch anyway, not like you can't buy and play it on your Series S/X or PS5.

Not yet, but they are testing compatibility.

They have stated that upgrades on the new consoles are free, and that they are working on Witcher 3 upgrades for them as well. I don't see them as the type of company that want to charge for more than proper DLC or "complete" editions (again, see Witcher 3).

I was referring to the Witcher 1/2 Enhanced Editions that were free for players and fixed up a lot of issues people were having. I wouldn't expect them to charge for it.

They have already shown the game running on the new consoles with better framerates, higher LOD, bigger crowds, and other stuff like that. Is that not going to be there on day one?

Yeah, but that's just standard backward compatibility stuff, not the actual PS5 / X|S versions with the benefits you'd expect.

Hard to believe we're just a few days away after all these years. I just hope it is good.

Does anybody know if they've said whether there will be an in-game benchmark tool on PC?

I haven't seen it if they have. Witcher 3 does not even have an in-game FPS counter.

Since we're in a RL cyberpunk dystopia, I feel like I can L. A. W. L. Z. at the idea that my home state would be a Free State. Everyone assumes that would be the case given our history and the false perception that we're bold weirdos who hew steadfast to Our Faith, but in reality, people here, TPTB in particular are so f*cking desperate and spineless and craven and easily swayed by money and the meager-est morsel of any sort of respectability, that would 100% not be the case. Maybe I should work on my own cyberpunk again.
