Cyberpunk Catch-All

Xbox's cross-gen policy, like their long commitment to backwards compatibility, really feels pro-consumer. They're also more open to crossplay now, even though they've reversed positions with Sony on that.

Good preview of the game compiling info from lots of sources:

That was very good.

Yessir, that vid was dope. Thanks for posting it!

I am sure this comes as a complete surprise to everyone, but Cyberpunk 2077 has been rated Mature by the ESRB for depictions of:

* Blood and Gore
* Intense Violence
* Nudity
* Strong Language
* Strong Sexual Content
* Use of Drugs and Alcohol

Some of the explanations of why these are cited include a mission where you “assist a character by hammering nails through his hands and feet,” and “Players can select a gender and customize their character; customization can include depictions of breasts, buttocks, and genitalia, as well as various sizes and combinations of genitals.”

P.S. This is a pretty good indication that the game is on schedule for release in September as the ESRB generally doesn't rate games until they are close to feature complete.

As one does.

Sometimes you need to put a friend up for the night

Okay, Longinus.

Those stigmata ain't gonna stig themselves.

They have some great quests but they also seem to have an obsession with pushing the sex stuff for reasons that don't make a lot of sense to me.

I always find it a bit funny when I think about the fact that it's someone's job to chronicle all this stuff in the driest possible language.

Post-human sexuality is kind of a feature of cyberpunk as a fiction genre. So it's not entirely out of keeping with the subject matter...

But that's a weaksauce justification, and it's far easier to lay the blame at a puerile culture within CD Projekt Red, and that justification entirely lines up with their history.

Two words: Sex sells.

We're "blaming" them when nobody knows what the content in the game actually is yet?

Who's this "we" you're talking about? I'm blaming them, don't tar everyone else with the Jon's-hasty-judgement brush.

Well there's me as well so technically that's a "we".

Also it's been SUPER FUN seeing all the transphobic "jokey" comments about the lols associated with customised genetalia in comments threads across the internet over the last couple of days. Cool. coolcoolcool.

Huh? We have three huge games from CD Projekt Red and we have a ton of developer videos about this game. I think we have a lot of knowledge about how the game will handle things.

They need all of those 'mature themes' and 'immersive layers' to mask their middling grasp of mechanics amongst scattershot encounter design.

Welp. I'm still bitter at Witcher 3 it seems.

I had no idea. This is one of the many reasons I keep myself isolated to the safe bubble that is GWJ.

I think it's great that CDPR is making this type of character customization available; I can't think of any other big-budget game that allows this. I can only hope it's handled respectfully in the game, but I certainly won't jump to any conclusions now.

From the non political side of things, I am excited by that video and think the game looks like a bunch of fun. On my list to purchase for day 1.

I have it pre-ordered already.

I am hoping that like much of the sex in the Witcher series you can chose to ignore it if you want.

NoClip recently checked the ESRB out and it is more interesting that I'd have guessed.

Sex stuff can be fun if done right. There seems justification for being cynical about it but I think just as much to be optimistic aswell. I'm likely getting the game so I'll decide after I play it.

Sex in the Witcher games never bothered me. Collecting cards was tacky.

I for one welcome to the gratuitous sex. Gives me a break from the gratuitous violence.

I do want to say that there are some really great people at CDPR. My wife contacted them a couple months ago when my doctor gave me less than six months to live and they moved the release date to September, hoping that they might let me play an unfinished version or something. I don't know what she was thinking, but I love the bloody arse off her for even trying. While they obviously didn't let me play a build, they did autograph and send me something that meant a lot to me. They've got me hooked for whatever time I have left. I just hope I can make September.
