Ascension: Card game for iPhone/iPad/paper

They said a while back that purchases were not cross-platform for some unknown reason. I'm not sure if this is a problem on SBE's side or Playdek's. It pretty much killed my enthusiasm for the PC version.

Ugh. Also, the Android client is 650mb!

I may just stick with Star Realms. Buy once, play anywhere.

Somebody save me from Cronox and his (near) infinite turns! Really nothing as demoralizing. Gah!

I'm Blackanchor on playdeck and would like to play a few games.

Sorry about that

I like Rise of Vigil, but it has led to some of the most broken turns I've ever seen. At least the infinite turns previously available required some setup. RoV has provided more 40+ point turns than really should happen. Makes it extremely swingy.

I think it'll be better once the expansion gets added (hopefully later this month). Someone was saying on the official forum they thought it evens out the swinginess of RoV, although I haven't played enough of the paper version to know why that is. At the very least it will dilute the card pool enough so that certain cards and combinations don't appear as frequently.

Speaking of paper Ascension... We picked up Realms Unraveled this weekend. It's really good. Adding dual-faction cards and giving unite abilities to all the factions makes for a very interesting experience, even though the influence from Star Realms is pretty obvious. Also the new card frames are really nice and make it a lot easier to determine the rarity of each card.

Good news everybody!

We are also working on the PC development, and once that is complete backers will be able to receive access for both PC and iOS as promised with your Kickstarter pledge. We are building the cross-platform technology that will allow you to carry over your expansions, promo packs, and online games between all the devices you play on so you will be able to play Ascension on the go, at home, or anywhere and on any device you’d like to play.

For our faithful players, we understand that you have been requesting the ability to allow your purchases to carry over between iOS and Android devices and are working on providing this to you. At the time of the Android release we were not able to offer product transfers between platforms, however we are working on the ability to carry your purchases across all of the devices you play on.

Also, Darkness Unleashed is coming "soon"

Nice! When they enable cross-platform expansions, I will return to Ascension, and probably buy a bunch of expansions all at once.

Yea, I'd love to add Ascension back into my gaming rotation; hopefully the PC development proceeds rapidly and mistake free. A guy can dream.

That is some good news. Looking forward.

Darkness Unleashed was put out onto iOS last night. 2.99 USD

I picked up the 2 latest expansions (RoV and DU) and will be up for games.

I like it a lot. Feels much better than just RoV. I am also up for games.

I held off until this morning because StoneBlade was promising DU as a freebie to all Kickstarter backers, but I don't know how long they're going to take to get that working. So I said the hell with it and dropped the 3 bucks. It will be interesting to see how this affects RoV. So far, Chumpy's already whupped me once, which I take as an ominous sign.

I'll be grabbing the new set tonight. Was holding off to see if they were going to comp it for KS backers but I didn't see a backer update this morning. So whatever. Looking forward to playing it with you lot :p

I'm in the same boat too. Will wait to see if they send anything out over the next few hours then will probably just buy it.

Just got a backer e-mail. DU is unlocked on android (as are all the other expansions and promos apart from Vigil) and it should be done on iOS soon. I'm happy enough playing on my phone for a few days. Sending out invites now!

I know I've been sitting on 4 invites from you guys to play DU, I do want to hold out for a few more days before I pull the trigger on DU since I'm a Kickstarter backer. I don't have a ton of confidence that Playdek and Stoneblade will have the iOS link ready any time soon. I'm glad we're getting more Ascension, but this is probably the first time I've really felt backer remorse for backing a Kickstarter.

I will probably cave towards the end of the week and buy DU because you guys are making it sound like it's a ton of fun and fixes the wild swings in RoV that I seem to always be on the receiving end of (looking at you Dixie).

I'm in the same boat, but I'm not going to cave!

I'm winding RoV and DU games down. I'm not really thrilled with this block.

join... us...

I'm also kind of frustrated by the delay in providing DU to backers, but I'm not entirely surprised. Both StoneBlade and Playdek seem to drop the ball semi-regularly. But I love the game enough that I can justify giving them an extra 3 bucks.

RoV does seem uniquely suited to my play style, since I've been having an awfully good run since it appeared. DU does manage to dampen the craziness a bit. (Not that there aren't still some absurd outcomes, but they're a bit less common. And therefore all the sweeter when they do occur. )

I'm just the opposite. Playing both together is like chocolate and peanut butter. Love the combined set!

I just grabbed the free version on Android today. Is there a definitive answer on whether expansion purchases made now will be cross platform later, or will cross platform only be available for purchases made after the functionality is released?

I just finally got an android phone myself and being the impatient type am quite likely to start grabbing stuff. Data is limited though, so what would you all suggest for first purchases given that I'll have 'em all eventually. Are there any that work particularly well together? I haven't played since Immortal Heroes I think it was.

One way or the other I'll soon be available to beat up upon in games again until I relearn some Ascension skills.

Hmm, seems that the latest update for Ascension is a bit broken. The aspect ratio is all wrong, and the input boxes for the buttons are not where they are drawn on the screen. Already caused me to make some mistakes, so I'm halting all my games for now until it gets fixed (sorry Chumpy!)

Just curious, what device and OS are you on? Current version works OK for me on an iPhone 5S with 7.1.2, and on an iPad 3rd-gen with 8.0.2 (although it's a bit sluggish, like everything else). A friend with a 4S on 8.0.2 had to reboot the phone to get the new Ascension to stop crashing on startup.

I'm affected by the bug, too.

Based on a few comments on Twitter, it looks to me at this point like the affected devices are "widescreen" devices (iPhone 5 and 6, iPod Touch 5) that are running iOS 8. (Although one guy claims to be affected on an iOS 7 iPhone 5).

This is going to significantly slow down my rate of taking turns until it gets corrected, since I'll probably avoid playing on my phone and only use the iPad -- and my family has dominion over the latter most of the time. Apologies to everyone I've got games going with!

You aren't kidding! It's awfully difficult to squeak out any wins against you lately! (Even with DU in the mix!)

I'm having the same problem. Can't get the Play Online button to work with iOS 8 on my 5S. Looks like whatever they tried to fix with the rulebook on iPhone yesterday borked the UI.

It seems like the UI visual is "stretched", such that buttons that appear to be located at the edge of the screen actually respond to touches if you touch more towards the middle of the screen. It's as though the actual touch targets are located where they would be on a non-widescreen device.

Obviously, that doesn't make for a terribly playable game, unfortunately!
