Max Payne 3 Catch All

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 had a pretty cool cover system for an FPS. I hesitate to critique it as 'clunky', but it felt that way, mainly because I went back and played it after having played Gears 1 & 2 for a couple of years, and the control scheme is totally different than 90% of FPSes out there, but is actually quite elegant when you get used to it. The shift from first to 3rd person took a while to get used too.

The same cover system as DX:HR. I thought it worked quite well.

And honestly, the part about that comic I found to be the dumbest is "the badass factor of someone I never was". What? Max Payne isn't a badass? He took a bullet to the head and survived. He fell off so many buildings you'd think he was Spiderman. HE'S MAX PAYNE.

MAX. PAYNE.

MAX MOTHERF*CKING PAYNE

I was a little worried until I saw this video, looks awesome. I also like how Rockstar has been doing these short making of clips similar to what they did with Red Dead Redemption. I hope they keep it up!

It really does look awesome.

Yeah. However, I've only watched 30 seconds or so, because a) I don't want to see too many environments/scenarios, b) Skyrim.

Another trailer:

Not getting a Max Payne vibe from it at all. It could still be a good game though I suppose, but it will be hard to judge it based on what it is instead of what it isn't.

System specs released.

HDD space:
35 GB

!

35GB makes me wonder what kind of ritual sacrifice they made to get it on the consoles (or really, the one using DVD), assuming that 35GB is correct and actual game data, rather than game data plus space they want spare.

I don't know if I'd try to compare. According to Rockstar, they're developing the PC and console versions in tandem, not porting it from one to the other.

Any word if this is GFWL, Steamworks, etc?

I assume it's not Steamworks or it would have been in that trailer as a logo at the end.

If it's that big some people will probably buy PC discs on slower or capped connections.

35gig!? I notice one comment on that post asks which languages it will be translated into. Given the size I would have to say ALL OF THE LANGUAGES!

I was already leery of this to begin with...that doesn't help.

I wonder what the actual download size is. Wonder if it's compressed down to be a reasonable amount smaller? Even though half that size is still a large game, and I doubt they'd get that kind of compression efficiency with these types of assets.

Even then, BF3's 15 GB or so installed, and it's not exactly a graphically lightweight. Crysis 2 with the DirectX 11 textures is 13 GB.

Brooding is difficult to compress.

Just watched an IGN gameplay video on Youtube. Seriously impressed. Between this and Diablo 3, May will rock.

Maybe all of the bullet time events are pre-rendered cut scenes

Wow, you're not kidding. 2012 is shaping up to be a banner year for gaming.

This is clearly the only logical explanation.

I had this pre-ordered on 360 but am really considering switching to PC since it apparently does look substantially better. My rig isn't top end but it was pretty good when I built it last August so it should run things fine and the disk space doesn't bother me. I am concerned about getting burned though cause GTA4's port was a mess and Rockstar doesn't have a great history with PC versions of late. If it is in fact being developed along side the consoles rather than ported as Momgamer says, that could be very cool indeed. I think I might take the gamble cause yeah, it's clear the PC version will be visually superior.

The singleplayer story is split across two discs on the 360. I know it's been announced but don't have the link handy.

Even two disks won't help. A DVD holds 4.7 gigs. They'd need 8 (give or take, depending on how the files are cut up) to hold that 35 gigs.

Presumably the texture file sizes are smaller on the console?

4.7GB single layer, 9GB dual layer, and I think the 360 DVDs are at 8GB of game data now (they were 7GB)

No, dual-layer DVDs hold 8.5–8.7 GB each.

I didn't think the Xbox disks were dual-layer. So they'd need four or five, then. That's still more than two.

The PC version will have the $10 day one DLC hidden in it but you'll have to download it if you're on a console. Duh.

Found the confirmation from Rockstar on twitter.

For reference, LA Noire was 3 discs on 360, 4 for the Complete Edition.

I think I might be double-dipping 360 and PC for this, gods help me.

Anyone else interested in getting an MP group together for 360? I was thinking about starting a clan for it.
