Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), is proud to announce that Max Payne 3 is currently in development and scheduled for a winter 2009 release on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC. Developed by Rockstar Vancouver, Max Payne 3 tells the story of a retired police detective embroiled in a world of corruption, turmoil and intense violence.

Fingers crossed.

But that’s no matter. It’s clear that the shooting has retained the original games’ unique sense of twitchy danger, the presentation just dialled up to hyperactive modern standards. Cover and chest high walls are present but could evidently be easily ignored. Max’s hardboiled narration is there, bullet time is definitely making its presence known and Max is just as messed up as ever. The weapon restrictions is a concern, but from what I’ve seen even in sunny Brazil Max Payne is still Max Payne. Rockstar have, more than anything, managed to get the feel of Max’s grumpy gunplay right, and they didn’t even have to eat the flesh of any fallen angels to do so.

"Did the world need another Max Payne game? The question hung heavy in the air, thick as the stench from this cesspool of a city. The answer struck me hard, like the fist of an angry god...

...maybe."

(sorry)

Hmm.. I am going to hope it's as great as the first two. But deep down I know they're gonna blow it.

As far as the picture of Max Payne goes, to me it looks decidedly not like him.

Got too many "http"s in your URL there.

Rockstar Vancouver, huh?

Those guys made Bully, which is arguably Rockstar's best open world game. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. For now.

Edit: Does anyone else worry that Remedy isn't developing this one?

It will need to be more than just about "Bullet Time" and "Gore" to get me the third time around.. but I'd be intrigued by a hybrid on rails/Sandbox type Max Payne game. That might actually work.

I'm kind of glad that they're doing this, because I want Remedy working hard on finishing Alan Wake for me.

I want user-generated similes as a minigame.

Tentatively optimistic. Good studio working on it. Please don't get rid of the heavy-handed, campy narrative - that's the best part!

Needs bullet-time kung fu and bullet-time grenade launchers.

I woke up in haze, the last vestiges of an all night-bender still tugging at me. But then...then I saw a light at the end of the tunnel and for a moment, I smiled. It was time to see if my kung-fu was still strong.

As long as it's melodramatic, has a ton of drugs and has bullet-time, this is one game that will be hard to screw up.

There's still a lot of ground to be explored!

They could go Stranglehold route -- if you nail the baddies in some particular way in Bullet Time, you get an animation with an exceptional amount of Gore -- played in slo-mo.

Or, like in Ninja Gaiden -- as you kill the first few enemies in a group, you can absorb their Essense (or Gore), and whack the remaining ones with a really vicious combo, which will include even more Gore, or some Bullet Time, or a combination of both.

Or, maybe you should be able to rebalance your Gore/Bullet Time dynamically, like weapons and shields in a space fighter sim (where are they all gone, by the way?), achieving new and unique effects with each combination...

Or... OK I am out of ideas.

It reminds me of the Splinter Cell guy when he had a beard.

True. Max Payne is this hideous guy, not that hideous guy.

Thats enough, thats enough! Put the beard away :O

Anyway, I dont rly know what to say about Max Payne 3..
Like, i love the 1 and 2, but dont know about 3.. Does it have what it takes...
Game would have much better graphics, but it doesnt mean it would be better game.
But plz, better than the movie..

And Alan Wake looks kickass game, Remedy knows, how to make a game..

I'm kind of starting to feel about Max Payne like I do Jack Bauer: how many bad days can one guy have?

Four more if Max wants to stay on pace with Jack.

Yeah, me too. They should come up with some sort of a ridiculous save-importer

Ahem. Manhunt?

Are you talking about Mona?

That dude on the website better be his nemesis. And it better be cheesey noir.

*slight spoiler*

And Mona better be alive. I worked too hard to beat the game on Hard just so they could kill her off.

*edited for stupidity. Where the hell did I get Eva?

First thought: ABOUT TIME!

Second thought - that guy on the site doesn't look like Mr. Payne....

Like others have said: I have my worries, but I'll hope for the best.

Add me to the list of people who did that....and felt like it was totally worth it

This gives me a good excuse to play through the first two games and that Mona mod sometime over the summer.

Also, once again I'ld like to mention how cool it is when games get announced less than a year before they arrive. It creates plenty of surprise and excitement, not over-exposure, unrealistic hype and tons of speculation over the delays for years on end.

How dare you suggest this won't be delayed well into 2011 or not simply canceled outright?

New Max Payne and Dead to Rights coming soon. Sounds good to me.

Hmm. I remain cautiously optimistic. If it turns out to be more of the same, I will wait for a discounted Steam download.

I think they waited to announce the game until after the bad taste left by the movie was gone.

I've played MP2 twice now and want to play it a 3rd time sometime soon (not to mention the Mona the Assassin mod Certis linked to). The game was just great. The story was interesting. The settings were nice. The trippy was trippy. And there was even a sniper level.

I always thought there was room for another Max Payne game. I can only hope that is more like Max Payne 2 and less like Max Payne: The Movie. Watching that film was more traumatic than stumbling in on your parents mid-intercourse.

Will keep my eye on this one for sure. Before I gets here I should get around to playing Max Payne 2 and that Mona mod people mentioned a while ago.

I'm naturally disappointed that Remedy isn't developing this themselves, but I'll take a Rockstar Max Payne 3 over no Max Payne 3. I just hope they do away with that horrible Rockstar Social Club dreck!
