According to the preparation FAQ, it's Midnight, Paris time. Which is 6PM tonight, EST, according to their link.
Makes sense, if the installer unlocked (Paris time) at 5:01PM (17:01) and is available at midnight Paris time. Unlock was 11AM here, and 7 hours later is 6PM. :)
Seems to depend on where in the world you (and/or Carmen Sandiego) are:
Launch Day D3 info[/url]]Regional Launch Times
As previously mentioned in the announcement of our midnight launch events, the launch time of the game is broken down by region.
The Americas (U.S., Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia) servers open at: 12:01 a.m. PDT, May 15
Is this pre-install only for Battle.net digital orders? My copy from Amazon better arrive tomorrow
So is there any benefit to downloading early? Servers wont open till 3am est right?
I believe by going to Battle.net anyone can download and run the installer. You can't actually play it until both tomorrow morning hits and you've activated your copy on battle.net by putting in your CD-key (if it's not a digital purchase), but you can have it installed.
And the benefit is that you already have it ready to go so that when the time comes - whether when you get up, get home from work, look down at the clock and it's midnight pacific, whatever - that the game is already set so you don't have to sit there and wait for it to install. When I get home tomorrow morning I would much rather be (attempting to) play than trying to find something else to do while my system, and millions of other people's, attempt to download and install 8 gigs each from Blizzard's servers.

Before everyone gets too excited, please note that this is the time for the European Region only. From the same FAQ:
We’ll be turning on Global Play when the game has launched in all regions. This means that you will not be able to play in a region outside your home region until after The Americas midnight launch at 09:01 CEST on May 15.
This time corresponds to the previously mentioned 3 AM EST on Tuesday morning. So if you're actually IN Europe, you can play at that time. If you're not, you have to wait until your specific region launches, and if you're trying to play out-of-region, you have to wait for America.
D'oh! Yeah. Dammit!
Are there respecs available in D3? Always hated the fact that you were locked into your spec in D2.
Other than class and gender, there are no non-reversible ability choices. Last time I checked the beta, you were only limited by a cooldown for changing which abilities were in any given slot.
D'oh! Yeah. Dammit!
Come now, you didn't really think they hadn't considered the time zones, did you?

It is I who hadn't considered that launch time information would be spread across 3 different sections of the FAQ(s) buried in the middle of paragraphs where they're not easy to pick out, rather than a big bold list.
Enabled and downloading client.
I have a dumb question...Are most people buying for the solo single player or the multiplayer grouping experience?

Me 2. I couldn't very well call myself a gamer and not buy Diablo III.
Since there is not guild functionality, are we making a GWJ channel and meeting up there? I'll be on at launch and looking to dive in with people!

Multiplayer.

I don't believe that channels are available in the game chat... anyone else know if those work like in Wow?

Even if you are planning on going the whole way solo, it is so easy to jump into a game created by someone on your friends list that it really becomes a question of "why not?" Also when you create a game, it is by default open to people on your friends list so they can hop in and out as they like too. Of course you can change the default to not allow anyone, but it really is a more is much better game. (especially with good class mixes or spell mixes as noone really is going to play the same class the way you do past level 3)

Yes.

I think I asked this earlier, but: Why would you play this game by yourself?
I added my name to the google doc. I could use an invite to the GWJ Diablo Steam Group.
Bunch of jerks, I've been enabled u_u
I added myself to the spreadsheet but just in case, please invite me and stuff:

From what I understand, there's nothing to respec in D3. No skill points. You pick a handful of skills, pick runes for them if you wish, and go off into the wild.

Generally speaking I won't. But I know there will be times when I will fly solo. Things like multitasking (making food, or otherwise going AFK frequently) don't lend themselves to grouping.

Ha, indeed. A worse FAQ I have not read in quite some time.

Parallax Abstraction for the Steam group.
I really hope this is more fun multiplayer than the beta was single player for me.
Is there an easy way to add battle.net friends without pre-installing the game? The google doc is huge, and I figure I might as well start adding people during lulls at work.

I'm playing solo on my first run through so I can play at my own pace, read the quest text, watch the cut scenes, read skills/item descriptions, explore every inch, go through all the crafting and mess around with weird builds without having to worry about wasting someone else's time or them rushing me through it.
After the initial solo play though, of course I'll stick to multi
I also added myself to the spreadsheet and am seeking a steamgroup invite please: Psypher#1316

Why would you play this game by yourself?
I always feel very rushed when I play a loot game multiplayer. I feel like I can't stop to actually look at the items I've gained, never mind set up my character to use them.

All multiplayer all the time. Better xp and loot to be had, so why not! Not to mention the ramp up of the challenge. I'm sure with competent people it's an absolute blast.

I'm probably just going to do what I did in D2. Create a private game and if I want to play with someone or someone wants to play with me bring my character along. Once I'm out of Normal difficulty the story doesn't really matter.
Damn, looks like the first 45 minutes of "play" is going to be solely dedicated to typing in friend requests from the spreadsheet...
