I love the way Blizzard announces games. Short anticipation cycle leading to announcement, teaser trailer, lots of gameplay and just enough information to whet the appetite. Can't wait!

(Couldn't resist)

Let the speculation begin!

The screen shots do look very awesome though. Finding out about something like this is a great way to start the weekend.

Is the entire rest of the site besides the initial page broken for everyone else?

Oh lord, guess I better go pick up the Battlechest and get back up to speed.

It's Blizzard. It will appease fans, and still be awesome. What else do we really need to know?

Took a look at the video. That thing about monsters body parts flaying off in all direction in that exaggerated fashion...
Goodbye, social life.

I watched about a minute and a half of the gameplay trailer before I turned it off. Just can't get too excited over it, and I played the hell out of D1 and D2.

I don't want to think about how long it will be before this game comes out. What they've shown looks extremely good though - it's just dripping with atmosphere.

Sign me up - its more Diablo, but it looks improved and polished. Is there another game company out there that produces such consistent quality as Blizzard?

I was excited about this months ago when I heard about it. Now I'm just waiting for my alpha/beta.

I guess you are broken because it looked pretty cool.

Obviously, no release dates... I expect it on 2010...

Maybe it has more to do with the fact that we live in the age of Fallout 3, Spore, and the Nintendo Wii now. I just can't get up in arms over what's essentially a game I played back in high school. Sure, it looks spiffy, but I don't see myself dropping seventy bucks for the inevitable collector's edition on day one, let alone picking up the regular copy at full price.

Yep... i could only look at the screenshots and i'm currently downloading the gameplay video via blizzard's p2p thingy - which is incredibly slow and crap. I tried watching it on sites like 1up but the download speed was just as slow :/ They could have managed this a little better like getting the thing out to sites like fileshack etc...

I can't really comment on anything as (in what seems to be the opposite for the americans here) none of the info of the main site works. Hell, i can't even get to www.blizzard.com anymore.... which kinda sucks.

Oh, Blizzard. You had me at "Stay awhile and listen."

Several months of my life will be wasted on this... Thank you Blizzard!

So..it's the same game with prettier graphics? Still on PC & Mac. No console version? I'm not excited about it yet, and I too played the hell out of Diablo II.

Just come out next year, please...

Wow, you forget just how bad the internet can be until you visit a Blizzard Forum for a game that isn't even out yet.

So..it's the same game with prettier graphics?

I can definitely see how it looks that way, but like Starcraft 2, I suspect fans of the series will immediately see a lot more.

Things that have got me interested:
More dynamic environments.
Predictably gorgeous art direction.
More interesting monster encounters.
What looks almost like Raid Encounter dungeon dynamics
Scripted events and story telling in the game
Destructible environments.
Skill based toolbar (seems obvious now, but still)
Heck, even decent resolution support. Goodbye 800x640
Hopefully there will also be better online tools in Battlenet.

Are you f*cking kidding me?

Goodbye another 5 years of my life.

M/F versions of all the character classes
It looks gorgeous
No more potion spamming
Tab key for alternate left-right mouse button skills
Zombie Wall FTW
Pets do more damage with an element based on what damage spell you cast on them
Location specific monster spawning (crawling up the walls to fight the barbarian)
For some reason Blizzard is the only company that can mish-mash armor styles and make it look good

I have to admit I cried a little while watching the cinematic.

I'm pleased that they didn't interfere too much with the core point and click gameplay. Yes, it looks like Diablo 2, but with really well crafted artwork, a modern 3D engine, and reworked and way cooler environmental mechanics. That alone is enough to get me to buy it. They would have lost me if they had turned it into World of Diablo.

Unfortunately, it looks like they may have replaced my beloved necromancer with the witch doctor.

I hope they don't soften the dark fantasy elements too much.

Doesn't Fallout 3 fall into that "I played it in High School" category?

Just saying.

An Internet rumor about Blizzard turned out to be RIGHT?! When do the other horsemen show up?

Even if it's really just a graphical update/minor refinement of D2, I'm in. Actually, I think I'd prefer it that way. If it ain't broke...

O.M.G.

I was very underwhelmed at first, but the more I watched, the more impressed I became. By the end, I was enthusiastic.

Do you still click to attack? It might sound stupid, but that would be a breaker for me. I don't want to be clicking that rapidly, for that long. Is there an alternate control scheme?

Also, this would be easy to do as a 2-stick on the 360... I'm just sayin'...

Isn't that... what sequels are? A continuation or a "new" version of the story, with new graphics, and usually a fair number of gameplay tweaks and changes, but very rarely are sequels different playing games all together. Sequels are attractive for companies because they've established that the setting, characters, story and most importantly, the gameplay, is popular. If they start changing the fundamental elements, it means they're just leaning on the name. Which, admittedly, is also something that makes a sequel attractive.

I'm not sure if these are tears of joy, there is not a word.. :)^inf.

Its... its... its beautiful.

If they released Van Buren instead of what Bethesda's cooking up, sure. I think that if Hellgate London wasn't the disaster it was on release, we wouldn't be talking about Diablo. If it worked, in many ways it would have been the next logical evolution of the Diablo gameplay style.

Starcraft Ghost proves why Blizzard can't do console games anymore. They just can't follow that kind of development and console lifespan cycle and release a game that meets their standards.

HEATHEN

Okay, I caught something.

Diablo II has a gem in the chat that you can press and it will glow purple / or fade blue. On the main page of Diablo III there is a similar feature. The purpose of this gem still unknown (even in D2).

Well, they didn't develop Ghost. Also, they wouldn't be creating the game for the 360, they'd be porting it.
