Diablo III GWJ Player List
Now that the game has released it's time for a fresh catch-all. Keep your impressions spoiler-free please.
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” ― Howard Thurman
Sounds like the theme of this season is "everyone is playing Diablo 2... screw it, turn everything up to 11."
That has been the theme of the last 15 seasons or so.
The power creep must outdo the previous season or people complain…
I'd be all over it but it seems that they walked back on mod support and streamlining modding.
There are still plenty of mods that change numbers and such, seems like people even managed to make a larger inventory though some was considering it impossible, but large complete conversion mods with multiplayer servers like the ones in D2 seems impossible. Which is pretty sad, and yet so Blizzard 2021…
On the one had it doesn't bode well for a new release being discounted this first holiday season.
While Blizzard are usually not good at discounts, most games these days seem to be discounted within weeks of release Heck, even before release too.
I think its only use veterans left so these tips are probably moot but I wanted to share them in case anyone wants to get off to a great start to the season.
Thanks for this, it was a big help!
You are welcome MBH. I am glad it is useful
Anyone else looted any new legendaries?
I just looted the "horadric hamburger" and the "spectrum" from whimsydale.
Nothing really to write home about stat wise but they could be wild transmogs.
Being fangoriously devoured by a gelatinous monster.
Prior to this season I played Season 3 and 10. Got to 350P in Season 3, don't even think I got to Adventure Mode in Season 10.
Hit 680 Paragon tonight, clearing GR110 with the Inna Monk Mystic Ally Build that only has two ancients, have GR90 clears sub 60 seconds with the speed Inna Monk Build. I'm one conquest from completing the season journey. I think I'll be able to clear GR150 with multiple characters before the season is over. I'm having so much fun!
"What Eleima says is the final word on it and not even God could undo it"
I hit GR 123 last night with only one or two deaths as a Multishot DH. I've also mastered all the DH set dungeons along with three of the Monks. That could be my goal. Do ALL the set dungeons for every class. Gearing up shouldn't be too hard with 1700 blood shards after four or five 100+ grift runs.
"A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.”
As Gandhi said, "an eye for an eye leaves the whole world without Nazis."
I mastered the trags set dungeon for the season goal.
I am gearing up a hc wizard that is currently t6 for the conquest that is gr45 (T10) solo with no set items
Augments are laughably easy this season because the soul shards count as l125 gems for the recipe
Which means the only things I'll have left to do after that are the adding leg properties to the cube and clearing a rift in 4 minutes or less.
Forgive me for posting this in the Diablo 3 thread but I see D2 Remastered is on sale and am considering picking it up. If I'm itching for Diablo action, should I get the remaster or just re-install D3 for the new season?
$40 wasn't worth it and $30 isn't much more worth it. (for me)
If it hits $20 I'll probably get it but just as you are mulling over whether to reinstall D3, I'd say you can do the same with D2 if you want to relive the horrors of Tristram.
And then, why not both? The new season of D3 is very fun. The past several seasons have been more than just power curve bumps.
So unless you are currently playing D2 on a regular basis, I think you will get more mileage out of the D3 season. It may be a wash since completing the season will take 40+ hours (unless you have a set group of friends that play regularly) And probably 20+ hours of D2 to realize "yup, its D2!"
I just got D3 on the Switch and OMG I am loving it. I never got the Necromancer on the PC but OMG what a fun class. The spikey thing it does is SUCH A JOY.

I’d say D2 has the better story campaign, while D3 has a much better endgame. Personally, I’ve been enjoying bouncing back and forth between the two. Sometimes I wanna Monk; sometimes I wanna Druid…
Ooh good point. I soo miss the druid. Might have to pick it up just for that.
I've been enjoying playing through the D2 campaign, with an Assassin, in single-player, at a comfortable pace whilst listening to every possible quest dialogue, gossip chatter, and general lore I can stumble upon. This remains one of my favourite worlds to become immersed in. Good story. Great characters. Great environments.
I have also played a little online, with a Druid, and that's been a blast. I wish I had found more time to continue as such. Dabbled with the other classes as well.
Love the classes. Love the enemy types.
I got quite far with a D1 playthrough just prior, on PSOne, but ultimately came up just short of the finish line. Still, I got my fix in relation to a lead in for D2.
I may subsequently try D3 one more time before D4. It is fun to play in its own way, but I doubt the story, the characters, the environments, are ever going to stick. So, maybe just a recap video prior to D4 instead. We'll see.

If you've played through Diablo 3's campaign once you probably remember everything you'll need to know for 4. D3's story mostly isn't great but it's presented very well.
The story from D3 was written by a 12 year old. It's terrible.
That seems a bit unfair to 12 year olds.
Could be fun to play through D1-D3 campaigns in preparation for D4 though. Probably don't have to hurry to manage that.
As for Diablo 2, a skill rebalance and new items patch was finally announced. Might bring some fresh builds and gameplay.

B b b but the game is perfect!?
edit: also, did I miss something? People are talking like D4 is going to be released within the next two years...
I think it has a better chance of being canceled than releasing that soon. (see all the recent drama of critical developers like D4 leads leaving)

Why even consider Path of Exile when D2R is around ^^
(personally more looking forward to Last Epoch)
2024 seems reasonably likely. If Blizzard still exist at that point.
PoE did another skill/trait rebalance this summer/fall and it's made things even more interesting.

In balance, yes. But that doesn't mean we can't learn from the bits it does right.
When my character told the biggest baddest archangel in Heaven to piss off or I'd tear him a new one, that felt earned. Granted, it was mostly earned by the game mechanics but in a video game I count that as a good thing.
In general I rather liked the whole "This is obviously a trap but it doesn't matter because I'm just going to walk out the other side" vibe I got from the PC, even though the traps and deceptions were so telegraphed that everyone else in the story reads as a massive idiot.
Most of the exposition dumps happen while the speaker is out with you while you're playing the game; you're not sitting in town waiting on them to finish.
The NPC allies actually spend a fair amount of time out there with you trying to help. Their damage is negligible but gosh darn it, they're trying.
The Unity/Cannot Die relic combo is amazing. NPC allies are awesome for leveling.
You don't even need the "cannot die" relic. You can use the pet legendary gem since its rank 25 property is your pets take 90% less damage. (your hireling is considered a pet)
For speed runs and hard core, NPC's are invaluable for their cheat death passive.
I'll admit I enjoyed D2R for a bit, but the age keeps it from being great. The difficulty of it was a welcome change, in a good way. The inventory size and stamina were continually annoying. Those latter issues made me drop it.
I also enjoy PoE.
I also enjoy D3.
I also enjoy W40K Inq.
I enjoy Grim Dawn.
I cannot wait for Lost Ark.
It's a good time to be alive.
How did I live before digital distribution of old, cheap games?
You did live before digital distribution of old, cheap games. Now you just play games.
Ah, a gaming brother! Excellent taste in all those games.
No Last Epoch love?
Not yet. But getting there.
I didn't even mention Victor Vran and haven't put time into Wolcen. Oh, Minecraft Dungeons is okay. Hades is phenomenal, though different. Death's Door count? Haven't gotten to it yet. The new Dark Alliance? Awful.
There's seriously a ton of crazy good hack n slash loot chase ARPGs. It's crazy.
Old Dark Alliance has been re-released
Last Epoch was on sale the last couple of days, maybe still is. Should have multiplayer out first quarter and pretty well be a full release. Very much looking forward to it.
