Diablo III Catch-All 2.0

Did you guys hear about the first paragon 100 character?

Nope, but a couple people on my friends list are 25+ now. I've been distracted by Dark Souls (again), so haven't played a whole lot recently.

Still working on it I believe. This is Blizzard we're talking about here.

I'll throw out some totally baseless speculation and say that I wouldn't be surprised if those features don't wind up getting pushed back to the inevitable expansion.

I don't think even Blizzard can get away with that one. PvP may not happen soon, but I will be shocked if they have the stones to actually charge for it.

I'm guessing 1.1 will be the baseline patch that is the foundation for the expansion.

PvP for a game like D3 is like watching body builders flexing in a gym.

I don't even really know how it would function on any level. Gear is way too much of a factor in this game, even more than it ever was in WoW. PvP with an RMAH and gear that exponentially increases the power of your character? It seems ridiculous on the face of it.

Maybe the PvP will be MOBA style where you can load out whatever skills you want, but you have to buy your gear 'in match'.

100? That's ridiculous, I've been playing what I thought was A LOT and I just reached level 10 :/

I expect that the character was on a shared account and that several people were playing on it in shifts.

Here's the story about the guy getting Paragon level 100.

Why do we follow people who "accomplish" things like paragon 100 that fast? Are there actually people who hear about this and think, "Wow, that's neat, I wish I knew how they did that." Personally I file this kind of thing under "Morons with no life" and carry on with what I'm doing.

Then again, I'm a rather curmudgeonly cantankerous sort.

Well, it can be interesting to learn how exactly they went about it, because aside from the obvious (sheer time invested), people like this tend to find where the game systems break down and use that to their advantage. The linked article has some information on what he did, and it highlights one of the most powerful (cough, broken) builds in the game.

If you're not interested in pushing the edges of the systems, I don't imagine it would hold much interest. But a large part of Diablo has always been pure system optimization, and this guy represents the pinnacle of that.

It's not like there isn't a precident. Wasn't the Zookeeper and Meteorb in D2 nerfed to oblivion because people were smoking Baal?

They had a long history of nerfing FotM builds in D2, and they're seemingly following that path in D3 so far. Wizards have been nerfed in every single patch for example.

There's kind of a meme that Barbs will never get substantially nerfed because Jay plays a barb. I think it's funny that Blizz does nothing to dispel this myth; the upcoming buff to CC in Inferno is justified as (paraphrasing) "Jay was playing his barb, and was frustrated that some of his CC abilities didn't work well enough in Inferno."

Be that as it may, breaking the game through over-analysis is not something I will ever be interested in.

My WD finally got something going in Act 3 Inferno but hit a wall with Ghom. Am I missing something with this fight? I can avoid clouds for so long, but I'm not bringing his life down. I have paper doll DPS of 25K, but do have a bleed effect and an offhand +7% on my primary nuke, so I'm sure its somewhat higher than that. Eventually the whole floor seems to be covered in goo and that's the end of me and Ghom is still around 50%. Am I really that short on DPS?

I don't remember where I read it (probably reddit) but apparently Ghom is really easy if you use a gargantuan. I guess he tanks Ghom pretty well and keeps him in the same place so he doesn't fart all over the room.

1.0.5 "Sneak Peak". AKA "Here's more stuff from Diablo II you guys are probably jonesing for"

Player 8! I missed you so much!

Question is, what will it do aside from difficulty? In D2 you got more XP and more drops when you jacked up the "players" setting.

To me, that was the point in D2. I wasn't in it for the increased difficulty, I wanted "teh L00tz!!" (yes, I'm in a silly mood)

Silly mood? That's how it's spelt! And I should know! I'm English!

Hey, I got a really elaborate phishing email this morning, well the 2nd part. The first one is an email saying that your battle.net account info was changed and then 9 days later (today) I got an email saying that my account was being sold on Ebay and the links that they wanted me to click on looked like the actual links. (I went onto the real battle.net site and found the things that they had links to and they looked almost exactly the same) The reason I know it is a phishing email is because I am able to log in and nothing was changed on any of my characters on Diablo III. (My WoW account is disabled) Also there was the fact that my account wasn't frozen and I was free to make/delete characters in Diablo.

I get phishing emails at least 3 times a week. For WoW though. They are mostly fake refer a friend or scrolls of ressurection. All you have to do is mouse over the links in the email and they will be something obvious like:

batt1e.net.freeoffer.tk
or
battle.us.net.wow.tk

Lately, mine have come from someone named Azalin that wants to know where I went? I have never met nor known anyone in any game (mmo or otherwise) that goes by Azalin.

Though I may create an alt soon enough with that moniker.

Okay, I just wanted people to be aware of a possible new phishing strategy.

It is always a good thing to call these out. If more people were informed, these would not cause so much havoc.

My wife got her account hack by a scroll of resurection. (She did played for almost 2-3 years.)

We had to call customer's service. They are nice people, but those emails seemed like the one you guys are talking about.

If you receive a scroll, just look in your account if the wow account isn't active.

We attached an authentificator for more security.

So the patch notes for 1.0.5 are available now.

There are some very dramatic nerfs to Wizard proc rates, presumably to prevent CM builds from being viable. The Meteor tank build I used for so long is now dead.

I haven't played in a few weeks, but I think I may be done for good now that TL2 is out and Blizzard is messing with my mojo. I think some of the general changes are good, but it feels bad to get nerfed in every single patch.

Well that stinks. The Meteor builds were what was making D3 fun for me.

They don't seem to understand that a game is supposed to be fun.

Yeah, that last patch nerfed things that helped both my most played characters survivable. One step forward, two steps back.

Feeling pretty done with it myself at this point too. Can't complain though. I've got 300+ hours into the game already. Don't get that kind of value out of many other titles I can think of.

Yeah, it's been a very good purchase for me all things considered. Got a lot of enjoyment from it and I still think they did a lot of things right.

I may come back to the game at some point, but it really does suck to gear up only to find the thing you were meticulously gearing up for has been made useless by a patch change. I need a break from that. I'll be more inclined to play again once they're closer to achieving something that looks like stability with respect to class balance; the wild buff/nerf cycle in a game where each build requires specific gear just frustrates me greatly.
