Dead Space 3 Catch-All

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition.

I want a ripper gun that fires smaller ripper guns that then fire a cloud of ripper blades.

I just built on on the link I posted upthread. You can choose acid or fiery ripper blades.

After I hit submit the page just goes blank, so I guess I designed two guns?

The Peacebreaker is a one handed ripper for close range with an smg below to soften up enemies at medium range. Extra ammunition modules keep your gun from running dry.

The '49er Core Gun uses a focused plasma cutter to drill holes and a launcher to sink demo charges in those holes for quickly taking down rock face cliffs. And hard-shelled baddies.

New interview up with one of the lead producers:

http://www.theaveragegamer.com/2012/...

Nothing mentioned that hasn't been in any of the videos so far. But this is of note:

With the removal of the credit (i.e. cash) system from the previous games, scavenging is going to play a big part in Dead Space 3. You will have to find parts to craft into weapons using the snazzy new weapon bench.

Currencies then.

New video up of the current demo:

God, I love Dead Space.

So after watching that video I'm still pretty certain the guys who took over Dead Space after the original creators left EA don't really know how to push the franchise to its full potential.

That said, it'll still be fun. I'm not as knee-jerk-reaction-angry about it and will probably get it and enjoy it.

I think it depends what you mean by full potential. Something that's become clear to me is that for many franchises there are different routes they can take it, and sometimes there's more than one valid way of doing things for different corporate aims. Another thing is that companies are now extremely likely to change the course of a franchise from what you think it should be based on earlier titles. For some DS3 will probably push all their buttons, for others, less so.

And even then, what I think Dead Space should be could easily be different from what the original creators even wanted.

Nonetheless, "scary" was never something I found Dead Space to be, so I'm not worried in that regard. It looks fun, and that's what matters.

I would like this demo more without the talking heads popping in every 30 seconds to tell me why I should love everything.

Got a definite Event Horizon vibe off the action sequences so that they were still tense. Space is just horrifying on its own.

This looks really good!

It is comforting to know that knee, knee, elbow, is still the way to win.

I will miss the evil babies.

I can't see how you could play that segment co-op, and I'm fine with that.

To be fair to them, at least when dead space wants you to look at something it grabs the camera from you properly in a way that's usually hard to confuse with the normal game camera, i.e. it goes the whole hog, and doesn't put up a silly "Press Y to look" prompt, which might as well be "Press Y so you don't miss the impressive thing we want to show you, but don't want to take the camera away from you (even though we do that occasionally/regularly anyway), and can't work out how to fit it into your gameplay view normally" prompt.

Well, Silent Hill taught us that old, incongruous, filthy things are scary, so...

That is a head-scratcher. Why is a deep space mining colony on a barren ice world putting on a production of The Nutcracker? Are there that many rabidly enthusiastic Tschaikovsky fans among the planet cracker colonist demographic?

What else are you supposed to do to pass the time?

Well, I guess that worshiping glowing spires of stone that drive you mad and warp your body into a mass of tendrils and bone spikes is probably the #1 pastime of the Dead Space world. But ballet could be a close second.

Suddenly I'm thinking of Black Swan. I should watch that again.

That is a hallucination that Carver is having. At different points in the game you will see things that your co-op partner won't. In Carver's case, he his hallucinating things associated with this dead wife and child - hence the nutcrackers. The person who plays as Isaac would simply see a normal corridor.

There has been a lot of criticism levelled against this game and the new co-op aspect, but I recommend people read up on it to get some more information. They have put a lot of thought into the co-op gameplay and haven't simply dropped in another player like many believe. As a long time fan of the franchise, I am really looking forward to this one.

Aw man. I was getting all excited about killer ballerina necros.

That's still cool though.

Yep, read the Polygon article I linked to in that post. The fact that your co-op partner will be seeing and experiencing slightly different things in the environment from you really pricked my ears up.

New trailer:

With a few shots of said prancing Nutcrackers and the 'insanity' element in co-op.

Oddly enough I think the co-op is starting to get me more interested in this game.

We'll have to see, though. February is a bit packed looking.

It sounds like a cool and interesting feature that you and your co-op partner see different things, but I don't think it'll work all that well in practice. We've all played co-op games where certain triggers (like playing voice samples) are client-side and don't synch up. If one player reacts to something the other player didn't see or hear, it doesn't seem creepy or immersive. It just reminds us that we're playing a game with limited bandwidth.

Still eager to give it a shot and see if they figured out a way to pull it off.

I don't remember if I have an origin account, and if I don't, well, I'll wait a week.

EA consolidated all of their accounts so if you have an EA account, you have an Origin account. If you have a Sims account, you have an Origin account. I'm pretty sure you can even use a Spore account as your Origin account.

FYI, Step 3 is either Liking the page on Facebook or Tweeting it. I know some folks are very much against social media around here.

I hate that sort of spam as well, but meh. It'll be buried in most people's feeds anyway.
