The Elder Scrolls Online Catch-All

Yeah. I want exactly that. They'll probably need to add some form of PvP to keep the player base hooked once you hit level cap, but everything below that could just be multiplayer Skyrim.

By which I mean punching dragons to death.

Yeah, that. +1

More beta invites went out yesterday, just in case everyone here wasnt feeling dejected enough today.

It's only for a three-hour stress test on Monday, though, so I guess you shouldn't feel TOO left out.

Yeah, saw their post on Facebook. Guess I've kinda given up hope...

same

Their initial sign up was such a tease!

I want multiplayer Skyrim. That is all

I think at this point I'm writing off a beta invite. Honestly, I didn't have much hope of one in the first place. I suspect, however, that getting hands-on with it won't change my perceptions of the game; it seems like it's pretty straightforward in what we'll be getting. And since I like what I see, I'll just wait until release patiently.

Well like i mentioned before... they could send an invite out to everyone not in on the last day of beta and have kept their alluded to promise.

Here's hoping they pass out codes at Pax Prime. Or at least I hope I can get a chance to play without waiting longer than an hour or so. Probably not going to happen though.

So two hours ago, @TESOnline was sending out another round of beta invitations...
Not buying it.

nor i!

Nor I!

On a serious note, that gameplay video was giving me a very strong DDO vibe. That isn't a bad thing for sure. DDO + Elder Scrolls exploration = win.

I got one for the stress test on Thursday.

Woohoo, Nicholaas!!! Go forth into Tamriel, for goodjerhood!!!

I just saw a blurb on massively where they expect to launch early spring 2014. Is this a push? For some reason i was thinking November this year, but that month is so crowded it's not a surprise they'e pushing. Not to mention it allows them to try and have the new consoles closer to PC launch.

I think they were originally giving a vague "sometime in 2013" for release, but they've been saying spring 2014 for awhile now. Before they even started the betas, iirc.

Heh, funny story...Thursday afternoon rolls around, and my mother invites me down for dinner with my brother, his wife, and their new baby. So I pack up my little girl, head on down, and realize as I'm pulling into her driveway that the beta was for that evening.

...I guess that's not really "ha ha" funny.

The Elder Scrolls Online monthly subscription confirmed @ PC Gamer

This changes a lot for me... Not sure I want to pay every month... Id have much rather preferred Guild Wars 2's model: pay full game price from the get go, spend more as you go and if you want.

Huge bummer. This is now an instant pass for me. I'm not a huge MMO person, and with the pile I can't justify the monthly fee - especially at launch before the game's been thoroughly reviewed. Even a demo option would be nice - but alas.

I had hoped for a different model. Don't know why $15/month is the default. I understand they have to recoup their investment but it seems (to me) like premium pricing for a product that will be far inferior to single-player Elder Scrolls titles.

I predict that it will be sub-based for a time. And then, like so many other titles before it, go to some flavor of F2P. I would go so far as to wager that this a calculated moved to gather up as much fanboy/girl money as possible during the honeymoon phase of the game's release. Nothing in the current MMO landscape suggests that a $14.99 monthly sub is sustainable if you are not WOW.

sigh, As others have said, this is a game changer for me as well. I will consider it as a possibility but it's not a day-1 purchase any more. If i get beta access and I like what I test then perhaps.

That really sums it up. Paying each month is just makes it too hard to play any other games, even though its only a mental block, its still a block.

I know everyone's priorities are different, but i probably could shake out 15$/month out of my couch (well now that im working again. priorities)

Still the idea that every mmo that comes out now days needs to be F2P before people commit to it just seems unreasonable. The key word that has already been mentioned is sustainable. Will they have a product that will allow them to keep charging the sub like WoW or will it fail somewhere and have to be shifted over to F2P system to keep being profitable.

Actually there's quite a bit that suggest that it can, but it has to hit a high water mark that WoW has left. People have tried and failed because they tried to cut corners and they couldnt make it.

It's not so much a financial issue for me, Ranalin, it's really the idea that a subscription feels like it's forcing me to play. And as PaladinTom puts it... With the pile... Can't justify a day one purchase with a subscription. I know I'm probably not making much sense, since a day doesn't go by without me going back to GW2, but... I can quit any time I want (yes, yes, I can!!). And then go back any time I want. If I want to throw extra cash at them I can (and I did recently, I got an extra character slot). But it's not tying me down. This gamer flies free.
We'll see if a beta invite comes, but aside from that... Looks like I'm going the same route I did with SW:TOR...

I am basing my assertion on the tracks left by Age of Conan, TOR, TSW and DCUO. I am not saying it's not possible. Just very, very unlikely. The fact that ESO is also another fantasy MMO doesn't exactly make it stand out. If WOW were to release today, it would not garner the sub base that it currently has.

Each of those games you list there though had failed in very major fundamental ways to make it to that high water mark. They tried to cut corners and it didnt work. Not saying it's fair, because what WoW is wasnt what it started as and you have to come out to match or be better than what they are to have a chance.

I guess that makes some sense. I'm used to the days (:old:) when folks who played mmos had them as their primary gaming source and didnt care about the rest of the pile. Now more and more people are into them as well as everything else and decisions have to be made.
