The Elder Scrolls Online Catch-All

I guess some people would quibble about finishing an expansion in a week (to the extent that I can, anyway, I don't raid), but I've enjoyed Summerset so much I don't care. Got the Saviour of Summerset achievement and title, and Psijic line maxed out today. Crushing weapon is a great skill for a stamina build.

*shrug* - since I rolled a fresh Dark Elf nightblade they just shoved me into the Morrowind starter area and I've been plenty pleased with the content there. I don't even know what missive I need to collect in order to activate the Summerset quests right now.

Pretty sure I just looked on the map and the first wayshrine (Shimmerine) was unlocked, you can pick up the main quest there. That said, Morrowind is great, too.

Yeah, going to Morrowind once I'm all done with Summerset. Can't wait.

I ended up caving in with the long weekend and all, bought the Morrowind bundle on PS4 for 10 bucks, mixed feelings so far, kinda suprised it started me right off in Morrowind, I figured the newbie area would be off in the main land somewhere.

They've been adding new starter areas with each expansion. If you'd bought Summerset, you would have started in that starter area. I'm fairly okay with them pushing new players to the latest/greatest content. It shows off the game much better than the base game's original areas, especially if you enjoy the questing/story-telling aspect of the game.

I finished the main quest yesterday and most of the side quests I came across. I enjoyed how meaty the main quest was, especially compared to Morrowind's and the base game's main quests. Each main quest had a lot to do and had a decent amount of drama. I enjoyed the new characters, as well as the returning faces I recognized. In general, I liked how more quests took you to the various delves and striking locations throughout the world. Those places felt like they existed for a reason, rather than just being plopped there by a game designer. I also managed to complete all of Summerset's world bosses by just running into the fray since there always seemed to be a group around fighting them.

I unlocked the Psijic skill line but I'm disappointed that I need to continue running around the world closing time rifts so that I can unlock any abilities from it. I'm probably not going to bother at this point, especially since I haven't even been to some of the zones yet which contain rifts.

Warden question, what armor/weapon should I be focusing on?

My warden uses destruction staves and light armor. Since the warden's abilities are magicka based, and most of what you find with light armor gives you bonuses to magicka and spell damage/critical.

Alright, I'll have to switch it up a bit then, I was using sword/shield since thats what I found laying around at the start, then opened that strong box that came from the starting quest, it gave me a heirloom bow and med pants, so I was bit confused.

Hi! Started playing with Manach and RGNinja last night, and noted that when in group - quest progress wasn’t counting for each of us. Is that just how this game works?

There are so many things to figure out, but it seems like I’m figuring out a schedule to at least focus on ESO for a little bit. I’m on Sunday and Tuesdays around 10EST. Would love a guild invite, if paths cross with a recruiter!

Not sure exactly how the quest progress works. I have been playing a lot with my wife. We are always in the same group in game and sometimes quest progression happens and sometimes it doesn't. We usually have to both have the quest and we sometimes have to each do whatever objective must be done (pick up the thing, activate the doohickey, etc).

I recently discovered that there is an option to share your active quest with your group. On Xbox you go to Journal > Quests then highlight the quest, hit Y, and choose Share. We haven't gotten a chance to see what that does yet.

I also think that, with certain quest steps, you have to be in close proximity to the other players in your group for progress to happen, but I am not 100% on that.

I found that weird as well.

"Thanks for closing our rifts, now we likely have other things you could be doing around here, but we wanna send you to Russia to do the same thing you just did."

Huh?

Perhaps it's their way of encouraging activity in earlier zones? Doesn't seem like something which would have much long term effect, and those zones never felt dead to me anyway.

On the plus side, on my main character, the Psijic line was far faster to fully unlock than any of the other guild lines. If you're amenable, I recommend one of the map pin add-ons (I've been using Map Pins by Hoft) as it will place the rift locations on your map. Alcast also has a guide here.

I agree I would have liked a few more story quests while levelling up psijic, but compared to levelling mages guild by chasing lore tomes, or dark brotherhood through repeatable assassinations, it's painless by comparison.

Found the key to mount my mount !

It's "H".

I haven’t tried mine yet!

Just picked this up - any tips for the novice ?

Just saw this as I have been moving since last week...

Real quick thoughts:
1. Don't stress too much about race/class/alliance to start. Pick a class that sounds like you will like it and play however you like. All races can be all classes, and there are no weapon or armor limitations. Once you get to end-game, you may want to specialize, but you can respec at any time (for gold).
2. Play the quests/story and get a feel for the world. Too many people (myself included) get caught up in min maxxing and don't have fun. Your choices really don't matter until you get to level 50, so enjoy the journey.
3. Open as many skill lines as you can. You open skill lines for weapons by using them to get kills, for armor by wearing 3 of one type (Light, Medium or Heavy) and you open other lines by crafting, joining guilds (Mages and Fighters) and other quest stuff.
4. There are many discussions/strategies for setting up your build in order to efficiently level. Poke around on reddit or other forums for tips, if you want. I will look for links...
5. Even if you don't plan on crafting start researching armor/weapon traits immediately. Start with the training trait on armor and the sharpened trait on weapons. Training takes a lot of IRL time and you don't want to be behind the curve if you do decide to go into crafting down the line.
6. In the same vein, start training your mount immediately. You can train one point in speed, carrying capacity or stamina per 20 hour period. There are 60 points available in each, so it will take 1/2 a year to fully train your mount. Training applies to all mounts per each character. Yes, you have to train your mounts for each alt, which sucks.
7. There is no need to hold onto gear right now, even if it is set gear. Sell (gets you gold) or deconstruct (levels your crafting skills) any item you don't think you will use.
8. In early game, use gold to increase your bank/bag size. If you don't have ESO+, inventory management can be a pain, especially if you are going to craft.
9. Join at least one guild. There are many guilds available on all platforms, so find one that seems like a fit and join it. There are guild recruitment subreddits and most guilds use Discord (even console guilds) to coordinate and be social.

Like I said, there are a lot of resources out there. You can check out Dottz Gaming, Alcast, and several others on YouTube. (Dottz in particular has a good, but very long, beginner's guide).

I caved and bought ESO on PC. I still have my CP 240 character on Xbox but I'm not sure I'll be back. This laptop doesn't play it so well, but I'm going to try to stick with it, since eventually I'll have something better...

Restarting from scratch when I had a lot researched really sucks.

Can I please get a guild invite to thestarsarehigh? Thank you!

I'm always down for ESO chat in Slack or Discord (thestarsarehigh#6445). If I'm in game, feel free to hit me up for whatever! I'm only level 10 but I'll be rebuilding my petsorc tank.

Well I believe once your new character hits 50 you get all those CR levels back.

There is no cross platform access except for my account itself and that doesn't give me anything.

My character and (limited, thankfully) purchases are stuck on the Xbox. If I created a new character on the Xbox I'll have my CP available for distribution at level 1.

But switching platforms, you lose everything and as far as in-game is concerned I am a brand-new player.

Thanks to Game Pass on XBox, I suddenly fell into this game this weekend, and I'm really enjoying it! I'd tried one of the free trials they had many months back but never bothered completing the very initial quest, but my cat man is now Level 5 and I'm exploring Mistral. I'm really impressed by how much it feels like an Elder Scrolls experience, and I like how I've been given some interesting choices to make in the quests I've done so far, even if I will be shocked if they end up mattering. I have other games to play that seem more timely and pressing, but I find myself in a mood to just explore a world, chat with NPCs, and click on things and watch my numbers go up.

I've put another dozen hours or so into this. Still enjoying it! Finding myself a bit frustrated at the inventory limitations, especially now that I realized the bank space has a limit too. I've picked up every tiny bit of cooking or alchemy ingredient I can find while playing, but only have like 3 recipes, so I guess I either need to find more recipes to buy or just stop picking up ingredients.

I was awarded a mount at some point (level 8? 10?) but the game never told me how to actually use it. I googled it at some point, and called my mount into being and rode around town a little. The UI told me to hit LT or RT to get off the mount, which I did, but apparently that somehow ended up attacking someone in town (I assume an NPC?) and I was quickly murdered by guards, way faster than I could even read the text on my screen explaining how to get rid of my bounty. I respawned and was shown a message saying I'm no longer "upstanding" or some similar adjective. Does this matter at all? And can I really just attack any NPC any time I happen to hit RT in town, or did I just get unlucky in the position/timing I did that.

I've started to make progress on the Main Quest line, but I'm kind of confused about how the game expects me to be addressing this. As soon as I got on a boat to leave the first area, I had a main quest to go speak with The Prophet. I went and did a quest with him in a solo instance, and at the end, he said something like "Okay, good work out there, now we need to save these other people, I'll let you know when I get a lead on them, but it'll probably take some time." About 5 steps out of his cave I get a quest update from him "Hey, I found the first person!" I've done 2 more of those main quests and it keeps happening--"I'll let you know when I--oh just come on back now!" I assume at launch there was something gating your progress between these story quests. Is there any reason I should avoid just doing them as quickly as they appear? I'm enjoying the other quests around the world, but the little achievements I get each time I complete a Main Quest is a good bit of Pavlovian conditioning to make me think it's the thing I'm supposed to be doing. Will I soon find myself overleveled for these, or will the Prophet only make quests available as long as I'm fit to deal with them?

Same thing with the main quest happened with me, too. If I had to do it again, I'd wait until after completing my faction's quest line, because there are several people you meet in the main quest who acted like I knew them. In fact, I had not yet met them in my faction quest. I believe it's from the time when the main quest was gated by your level.

If you're going the F2P route I would probably not bother with any of the crafting in the game you just won't have the inventory space. When you subscribe they give you a crafting bag that has unlimited space and holds all crafting materials and there are a stupid number of different crafting materials. It's practically the only reason I subscribe.

I've maxed out heavy, medium and light armour, weapons, and staffs - crafting and research, as well as food and alchemy without the crafting bag.

You just don't collect all the things. You're better off selling every single thing you don't need for researching armour/weapons, and then using the public guild stores to buy stacks of the specific things you need to craft/level up your next level.

At higher levels, you'll pretty much settle on one or two armour, weapon, food and potion/poison combination that fits your build, so you don't need to go hoarding ingredients for things your never going to craft or use.

That's the way I ran it, anyway. Money isn't that hard to come by just by questing and selling all the things.

Don't collect all the things? I don't understand.
