The Elder Scrolls Online Catch-All

Reached Level 6 in PvP Assault, so now I have access to Caltrops and Vigor. Nice one. However, the experience of getting to that level has entirely changed my outlook on PvP in this game. I can see me having a lot of fun with it in future.

If you're thinking of trying it out, don't worry about gear etc. The number one thing to do is - don't go solo and try to follow other random players. do your very best to join a Large Group. Usually you can just join the PvP instance and type 'LFG' in the zone chat, and you should hopefully get an invite to the group. Some PvP guilds even have auto invite if you type a specific thing into zone chat.

Last few evenings I've been running in groups of between 15 to 24 other people. It's a whole lot of fun, and gives you some direction without having to understand the ins and outs of what's going on.

Now that I have those two abilities unlocked, though, I'll probably go back to PvE and hit some dungeons, run Darkshade over and over a few more times hoping to specific armour drops. We'll see how it goes

Also, three weeks 'til Summerset!

I really liked the PvP and seige in this game. Almost makes me want to come back.

Yep, it's been interesting for me because I'm normally so, so , so not interested in that side of it. I don't directly kill swathes of people, but i support others from a distance and seem to actually help quite a bit.

Omni, when you play, what PvP do you play, Campaigns? (That's the same thing as Alliance War, or no?)

Started the Campaign quest the other day and played my first Battleground last night. Was fun, even though my team was quite bad. (I placed second on my team in the oddball game type (don't remember what they call it) in my first ever PvP match, if that gives you an idea)

Yep, Alliance War Campaign. I think it's L on keyboard. I usually go with the 30-day Non-Champ Campaign, which basically means that nobody has their Champion Points enabled. It's hard enough to actually get a kill, never mind people having 720 Champion Points spent on finely tuned PvP builds.. I haven't done any of the Battlegrounds stuff at all.

I only do the full Cyrodiil map type PvP, where you have to capture and defend Keeps, Castles, Farms etc, with the supposed ultimate aim of stealing Elder Scrolls from the other two factions. I don't tend to get to wrapped up in the wider scale of what's going on, just having fun finding a group, and running from Keep to Keep trying to capture/defend them.

Cool, thanks. I somehow got a kill in my first game, completely by accident. I fell from height and somehow killed a dude I fell on/near. (I think they were pretty close to dead and I had an area effect going or some such).

Best part was I popped the Close Call Kill achievement!

Nice!

The battlegrounds are fun diversions. Short/sweet. You are against people who have pvp tuned builds, but some pve builds hold up just fine.

Reinstalled this last night. Hoooo-boy... OF COURSE I needed to roll a new toon. It’s been too long!

I would just use whatever character is the highest level you had, you'll get back into the swing of things quickly enough, and it's not as if there's a lack of content still to go

I didn't play for almost 18 months, but within a couple of days it had all come flooding back to me with my character. Had to get used to the changes to the Veteran system (replaced with Champion Points, etc), but it didn't take that long. No way I could start all over again

It’s alright my highest char is only Level 18. Also got bored with dragon knight

I highly recommend Templar, stamina focused. Go for Biting Jabs as soon you can, and then you can mince everything in PvE

Second the templar! Great class and can do lots of good stuff for PvP. I think I went magicka build. Radiant Glory dissolves people.

https://alcasthq.com/ is a good resource btw.

Yep, I based off his 'Jabsmania' PvE build. Got to the stage that at CP240 ish, only the world and dungeon boss last more than a few seconds.

I use the same in PvP with a couple of alterations to give me more ranged attach options. I couple Hundings Rage and Night Mother's Gaze armour sets, with 'Agility' necklace and both rings. Gives me just over 31k stamina with food (28k without).

I have two chest pieces, one enchanted with Stamina, the other Health, depending on what I'm doing, I can switch between the two without losing the set bonus.

I've started repeating the Darkshade dungeon to try and get drops of the Automaton set, which would be even better, but trying to get armour drops with the specific trait I want is low chance percentage. It's a short, fun dungeon though, so it could be worse.

Templar is also one of the best healer classes, too, do you aren't that limited even once you get to late game stuff.

Above all, though, if you're starting out out coming back after a long time out, don't worry too much about builds, classes, armour and whatnot, just pay the game and have fun, the rest can come later. A full Respec of all attributes, abilities and morphs will set you back about 12k gold, which isn't that much late game.

Magika DK is very powerful if you want to spend time researching it. It was my first character that i built and it was amazing for PvP and PvE.

I'm currently running a Magika Nightblade.

Like Omni mentioned though don't sweat it and just play. Also low level respecs are cheap. It's not till you get to the end does it get expensive.

Sounds like any class can be very powerful going Magika. Is it a bit too basic to go Sorcerer?

My main is a stamina sorcerer, dual daggers and bow. I really like it - good self sustain and AOE - but I haven't tried the magika variant.

Edit: Oh, and crown packs on sale?

Some of the more high powered ultimates are magika based so a lot of builds lean that way. Stamina builds are still hardy and worth taking a look at too. Primarily depends on play style.

My main is a magicka sorcerer (pet build currently), at max lvl, cant remember CP, not much. How does it compare for soloing these days?
Also, what builds do you all think are most fun to play? I like the game, but dont find my sorcerer that interesting. But not sure if its the class or the whole limited number abilities design.

So I've never bought DLC content before - how do I access the pre-order goodies after purchase? At what point does the game start streaming in the bonus Morrowind chapter?

The preorder items are in your inventory I think. If you have a character already I think there’s a letter in your inventory that starts the quest for Morrowind once you read it. You can also start the quest from the Collections menu’s DLC section.

Thanks, hah I "figured it out". The mount was claimable from the menus and I got the mail message to activate the Morrowind questline. I should have known the Morrowind stuff is already "on the disc" so to speak, no additional downloading required.

I'm almost to rank 5, and while I generally enjoy realm vs realm stuff (I played GW2 WvW semi-seriously for years, small-scale and zerging) I can't say I'm enjoying ESO's version much. It has all the negatives I would associate with WvW - lag, poor performance, and very unbalanced combat when fights get big - but the combat is less fun to me.

I do think ESO's implementation of siege is better than GW2, though.

There's also the fact that my build and gear are crap for PvP purposes, and I'm not used to PvP combat in this game, so I'm not pulling my weight like I'm used to. I'll probably stick to PvE in ESO once I've managed to reach rank 6 for caltrops.

I'm rolling that build as a tank and I haven't had any trouble questing. DLC normal dungeons with PUGs are tough if my gear isn't up to spec though, so I'm avoiding those for now.

I've been playing less intensively lately (don't want to feel like I've had my fill of the game before Summerset launches!), but I have unlocked vigor and caltrops via the alliance war. And I am never going back there again. I've also been slowly raising legerdemain, which is almost maxed now. Stealing stuff is pretty lucrative.

I've been saying it for years now, but stealing stuff is the best part of the game for me. It's entirely more enjoyable than most battles.

Yeah. Reached rank 20 in legerdemain, which should make Thieves Guild much more fun when I finally go back to it.

In case anyone's wondering, one easy way to rank this up is to steal everything off the two docked ships in Daggerfall harbour. Between the two ships there's enough to fill your inventory. Grab everything and sell/fence at the nearby outlaw's refuge. There are no NPCs on the ships to see you.

Gosh, Summerset is out today. I think i'd missed or forgotten it was coming out earlier for PC. Not sure if I'll be able to try it tonight, but I was able to start the ~30GB download. I finished up Clockwork City this weekend so that was good timing.

everyone needs more Blur in their lives...

I'm downloading Summerset now. Not sure if I should leave it for a week or two, I haven't gotten to try the new content yet, but I imagine the new zone will be very crowded.

Edit: People are literally queuing (and also not queuing) to take one shot at a boss before they die, and every quest NPC has 6 people standing around them. Nothing unexpected about that, but it is does detract from the experience.
