Preview of Neverwinter From Cryptic and PWE

Yeah, I've noticed this. It can be annoying knowing you hit a spell in time but still get locked out by crowd control launched by someone a few milliseconds less laggy that you. I'm primarily a rogue so it's particularly bad for me, especially in PvP. The Wizard and Cleric are a lot more forgiving of lag if you want to give them a go.

Awesome, I wasn't able to play on Sunday. Very cool that they only had to roll back a slight amount. In most cases it's 12hr+.

I just can't believe that a game this well produced (seemingly) doesn't have one black hat guy who's job is to try to break the game in alpha testing. Negative currency numbers is something that should have been addressed far earlier.

You would not believe, and I mean that literally, what gets found during testing that producers will tag as "known shippable". It would not shock me at all if Cryptic already knew about this but decided to launch with it.

But how hard is it to restrain the possible numbers on an auction listing to be greater than zero? I've only ever programmed in basic, but this seems like a super simple fix to me.

Note: I mean simple to fix prior to launch. Of course this is a mess after launch and trying to revert those who abused it.

Apparently this bug had been reported much earlier in closed beta, but the tickets that were opened were closed or "lost". I guess there have been several complaints and issues with the in-game support system, specifically ticket submission and resolution.

Yeah when I couldn't log in I did some reading about the issue. Sucks that there always has to be a**hats that
can't just play the game! Anyway, glad they did not do a wipe cause not sure if I could have gone back after that.

In order to avoid the implication that Cryptic was somehow conspiring to cover up their bugs, it's worth mentioning (as one of the Redditors did) that most of the time, bugs that are already known to exist will be deleted in order to avoid duplication. Unless, of course, the ticket has some valuable new information. Other times (as I can personally attest), tickets for known issues are often appended to the original ticket, and the new ticket is destroyed or deleted in the process. This prevents the developers who are looking at bugs from seeing things multiple times, when in fact the problem is the same.

Example:

The correct bug tracking method
Player A cannot do task 1. Player A files a ticket. Player B cannot do task 1. Player B files a ticket. Support staff deletes ticket B in order to prevent duplication of work. Developer fixes bug from ticket A.

The incorrect bug tracking method
Player A cannot do task 1. Player A files a ticket. Player B cannot do task 1. Player B files a ticket. Developer fixes bug from ticket A. Developer sees bug from ticket B and assumes the bug is not fixed, when it really has been. This results in lost time and resources.

The other incorrect bug tracking method
Player A cannot do task 1. Player A files a ticket. Player B cannot do task 1 or 2. Player B files a ticket. Support staff deletes ticket from Player B. Task 2's bug goes unnoticed.

Gotta say again I'm disappointed in the variety of the looks of the gear. Was looking at the epic TR gear, looks almost the same as what I'm wearing at 30.

I've found some interesting looking pieces of gear so far (in my 50s now). Whenever I find something unique, I bank it so I can use it to change the appearance of a useful piece of gear later.

Been playing as a cleric. Haven't tried PvP yet - my main gripe so far was just constantly being rubberbanded back to being smacked by a special attack that it looked like I was well clear of.

Cryptic is giving out a Caturday Survivor Pack to all characters created before the, uh ... Catostrophy? Catocalypse? Catageddon?

Anyway, the cat cape looks cute. Glad to see they're rolling with it.

It's a fancy feast for the eyes!

Does the cape go all wacky when riding a mount? My cape when I'm on my spider mount is insane. 99% of the time it's cutting my body in half.

EDIT: Also, XP boosters. Can be claimed from whats-his-name? Just curious for us 60s if they are entirely useless or I can use them on 2 alts to level up a bit faster.

Stats on the cape? UGH I hate being at work and not able to check haha

Can't you just mail the XP boosts to an alt?

ahrezmendi wrote:

If you unbind them, maybe. Not sure what the restrictions for that are.

The cape has no stats. It's purely cosmetic. But is can be applied to any neck item to give the item the appearance of the cat-cape. The XP boosts are bound to the character - but all characters created before Sunday will get them, so the alts have their own.

XP Boosts? I need the opposite!

I'm outleveling dungeons and skirmishes before I even have a chance to check them out. I've never leveled so quickly from level 1 to mid-20's in any other MMO ever, and I'm certainly not grinding XP.

My main motivation for starting an alt is to catch all the content I missed at the appropriate level...

Yep, I did the same because I'd missed the first dungeon and skirmish. I had been worried that all of the dungeons were going to be button mashing sprints to the finish as that's what I'd been doing in every single on up until the the mid 30's one. On that one we were still sprinting through the dungeon but then we wiped twice on the final boss. Probably didn't help that we didn't have a healer. I hear those guys are nice to have around. Regardless, it at least gives me hope that the later dungeons will seem a little more dangerous then what I've seen so far. Don't get me wrong, I like feeling like an indestructible force of arcane awesomeness but I also like to be challenged every now and then.

That's happening to me too. Never did play the early Org skirmish.

I leveled from 31-33 last night in a 2 hour sitting. WHAT?

The game is very liberal with the XP, I've noticed it too. I like it, because I can do whatever I want to that night and get some XP for it. The result is I do a wider variety of activities, rather than saying "this is going to be a questing night" or something like that. If I want to do a quick PvP, I just do. Foundry quest? Totally.

I kinda forgot about those, I might dig into some tonight. Any recommendations from my fellow goodjers?

I'm a HUGE fan of the "I Am Slayer" quest. It doesn't qualify for the bonus Foundry event, but it is so well-written and fun that it's hard to pass up.

Did pvp for the first time last night with some folks in Greivence. It was fun but annoying everytime the rogues or GF would target me. Though there was several good games, and one that was odd more than anything. 5 people same theme for name/same theme for @, so someone with 5 accounts imho, and they just sat on their camp spot afkers. I got 0 points, but still got exp and an item. There was another one where we went against 3 people on the other team and I as a cleric got the most points....odd, I suck at pvp. Went from 37 to halfway through 39 pretty quickly.

Logged in after the rollback and realized just how much I had accomplished in 6 hours sunday morning, felt pretty meh about having to do it all over again and logged. Haven't had any interest in logging in since. Wonder how many people are feeling that way?

I Am Slayer is very highly rated. I enjoyed Secret of Blacklake too. I did one last night that was designed for 5 players and I solo'd it by accident. Took 2 hours and all my potions, but I won! It was called... gatestone, gatesteps? I don't recall, it was the #1 suggestion for the daily bonus.

After hitting 60 I got that feeling (and still have it). The last week has not seen much playtime. I tried an alt, got him to 6, and realized I didn't want to play an alt

Loaded up GW2 after quite a break and really enjoying that from the couple hours I put into it last night. I may be putting NW on the back burner for now.

"I Am Slayer" didn't do it for me personally (clever overall idea, but the encounters dragged on a bit long for me), but I really enjoyed the "Old Jerry Saga" for some humorous hack-n-slash, and "The Hidden Blade" for a much more dialog-heavy story based mission with some investigation gameplay.

I completely agree. The I Am Slayer quest is well written and has great pacing.

I stumbled on another great Foundry quest: "Protect the Caravan."

The writing is nothing special, but the map layout and enemy placement is really clever. And the author found a way to enable a "Difficulty Slider" for 3 different settings, and companions to fight alongside you, both of which I don't think I've seen in player-made content before.

The Foundry is quickly becoming my favorite part of this game. If Cryptic is smart, they will keep updating and promoting it.

Mumble, mumble... dated graphics! =P

Grats, Cobble! Rainsmercy and I did a dungeon the other night, and it went well. We were lucky enough to get a full guild run with a 60 who wanted to cross the dungeon off his list. We pulled too hard on the Idris stairs, which I warned them about!, but cleaned up Idris herself fairly easily. It's nice being closer to 60. There seem to be more opportunities for grouping. It could've just been my charm.
