The Traveling Flag of Goodjerdom Starts it's Journey.

So PAX East 2012 has just wound down and we have all started going our separate ways back to our families and loved one. Preparing to return to the responsibilities of day to day life. As I was packing up my clothes and getting my son ready for one last day at PAX I had a thought.

For Pax East I wanted to make a flag so we could easily find each other in the table top area where we would be playing board games. I asked Bombsfall if I could use some of his amazing artwork as a flag. In return he said he would do me one better and make new art just for the flag.

Thus this flag (pillow case actually but it works just fine.) was made.

We flew this flag all three days of PAX East with great sucess. It made us easier to find but also led to lots of nice people asking us questions about what is this "Gamer's With Jobs?" Allowing us to spread the gospel to people that have not been lucky enough to hear about the amazing community.

My thought was that better then me just taking the flag home and then bringing it to the next goodjer get together I could pass it on and we could see how far this flag can travel from goodjer to goodjer as we get together and enjoy the company of other company playing games and talking.

This thread can be used to keep track of it's travels across the broad Goodjer Kingdom! Please if the flag is given to you take it to the next slap & tickle or Convention that you are going to where there are going to be other goodjers and pass it on to a fellow goodjer and then post here in this thread. Please feel free to add photos of the flag's exploits and friends.

Here is the flag flying as goodjers at PAX East 2012 play an epic game of Battlestar Galactica.

Thank you to all fellow goodjers for being an awesome community and some of my finest friends.

The flag has made it's first change of hands. I gave it to Rabbit so he can help it find it's next happy home.
Thanks again to my fellow goodjers for all the game and fun conversations we had this fine weekend at PAX East 2012! Our next meet up cannot happen soon enough!

See the details of this meet up here in this thread

That there is one large game of Battlestar. Whew.

Can't wait to see where the pillow case flag makes it next.

So we're not going to play off the fact that it is a pillowcase as intentional, since our fearless leaders sport the pillow of heterosexuality for their icons?

No, Mono made note of that in the other thread.

Would it be heretical to say that I like this artwork better than Stan for the site logo?

Yes, we must burn this heretic at the stake.

Spoiler:

no, not really. Stan is great IMO

I love them both equally.

I can barely focus today for all the reminiscing going on. Good thing it's a light day! MonoCheli, thanks for stepping up and raising the beacon for Goodjerdom, you are truly a gentleman, an artisan, and a gracious host. Hope to see you, Tigerbill, Tanglebones, ccesarano, merphle, shoptroll, padreic, Demyx, AP Erebus and all and sundry next year. <3

So, I'm so honored to have this thing in my house. However I'm worried I won't get to enough stuff! I may hang onto it until May Rabbitcon (I wish I could invite everyone, but since it's a sleepover in the middle of nowhere, it's kind of a floorspace problem). From there it will probably make the trip to a San Francisco Bay Area S&T, and if possible, I should coordinate that with BnPederson, because let's be clear, if we want this thing to hit maximum mileage, he's the man.

One thought: should we get a sharpie and start writing where it goes on one side?

Patches. Iron-on or sewn on patches.

This. Or someone can sew on a white flap so that people can write on it.

That's what they call it before you get a full length scarf.

Or we can go military style with streamers.

This would be best, IMO.

So no relation to a tourny?

Only in Wonderland.

I think it would be great if people want to mark/add to/improve it how they see fit.

It could use a better stand some day if someone has those skills, I didn't have an opportunity to make one...

I look forward to seeing how it has grown next year at PAX East.

Streamers seems AWESOME. I'll see if I can make like a dozen and tie them on.

I actually thought your system was INGENIOUS and conveniently packable into a normal suitcase.

Absolutely agreed! It was brilliant in its sheer simplicity of design, and presumably unlikely to be red-flagged (ha!) by any TSA agents.

I would only tie on the streamers that are completed (e.g. the locations/GWJers it's been to already), because if we are using them in the same manner as the military, they are campaigns/awards that have already been completed/awarded to the unit. But if you feel like making a bunch of blank ones to pack along to future people that would be awesome.

In my opinion the problem was that it wasn't tall enough. So maybe it just needs another dowel rod so it can be made taller or something like that.

This is definitely the best plan.

For those adding streamers, make sure to include the dates as well as the events, given that units can receive honors at different times during longer ops, so too can we for different events.

Likewise, 100%. As long as our yet-to-be-born spawn is agreeable wisiwigg and I will be there.

Well I guess in recent history he will have to live up to Leland's example. So providing he can do better then crying through the night you should be good. You two should be naturals anyway, wisiwigg was doing great.

She was joking that from the pictures AP took it looked like Leland was hers! You guys are really lucky, he's such a great kid. I hope that PAX sticks around until he and our kid are of an age to enjoy it.

Rabbit: You gotta ship it to Oily for MinPenCon at the start of May. I can carry it back to MA with me.

I think we should attach (golden) pillowcases to the pillowcase.
