Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

I played some more of the campaign last night and got into the stealthy stuff. I had to repeat sections a few times until I figured out how it all works, but there were some bad ass moments where I felt like a kick ass special forces ninja. Plus, the checkpoint system is generous and it never felt demoralizing. Really cool experience overall. Mixing up the different tech and strategies is a lot of fun and I love the mission structure and briefing.

I also love the way they deal with giving you battlefield intel. Your AI squad mates will call out enemies, remind you of your objectives, and the rules of engagement. Still, it would be even more fun with a fully populated squad of real people.

All in all, it is a refreshing change from Call of Duty and Battlefield 3. It has those big crazy fire fights, but mixing in the stealth and tech breaks up the pace nicely. And no jumping! I missed playing soldiers who do not jump around like morons.

The camera is the only issue I found. Joystick sensitivity is set a bit too high (easily fixed in settings) and the character model sometimes takes up too much of the screen. Those are minor quibbles though. I think this is a top notch military shooter that rewards smart thoughtful play. You need to stay in cover, you need to gather battlefield intel, and you need to take out guys smartly.

I like the default difficulty too. It feels hard enough on that setting for me, but it might be a bit easy for tactical shooter junkies. I need to get into more games like this, because it feels much more rewarding than a typical military shooter. Great challenging fun, but not in a Dark Souls sort of way. It is not enticing enough for me, but when I see 74.5% accuracy and 88% challenges complete I feel proud and have a slight impulse to re-run the mission for a better score. Metagame/challenge lovers should be happy.

I say it is buy at full price, but I haven't tried multiplier yet. This game makes me smile though.

I just realized I have guests thursday - saturday, and can't play games. sh*t.

Wednesday around 915 central for some Ghost Reconning?

Same

Got further through the main campaign missions and the difficulty is ramping up. I am often hitting areas with up to ten baddies that need to be taken out carefully. When you figure it out is is very satisfying, but it often takes me a few times. Because of the number, you often have to take out four with a sync shot, then when you are in slow-mo mode quickly take out the remaining guys.

The coolest moment, although I failed the mission, since there was one guy left that I did not spot when I planned the shot, but I set up a sync shot and had one guy unaccounted for (beside the guy I missed in the planning). So I waited to take out #4 when the unaccounted guy walked in front of him. Taking out two guys with one shot was so freaking cool. If I had not missed that one guy it would have worked. I ended up finishing the checkpoint by taking the guy out on the roof that I missed the first time around right away (did not set off alarm), then I took out the last guy with a slo-mo shot. I tried to set up the first shot again, but I wanted to just get it done.

The game can almost feel like a puzzle game at times and i have gotten through a mission by just using the drone and directing the team. That was fun too. I like being able to finish the mission and get a high rating without ever using a weapon.

I think it is safe to say that the game is great, at least in my opinion. The single player is a lot of fun anyway and I will definitely finish it. That does not happen often. That's high praise.

Love the game.

Fun games on Guerilla last night. I do wish the rounds went a little faster. After knocking off the last enemy, there's a pause, a score screen that halts action, and then a 10-15 second wait while the resupply boxes drop in again. Seems like they should just leave the resupply boxes out all the time (perhaps in an open area to discourage mid-wave resupplies) and allow you to move during the score screen (which doesn't tell you that much anyways).

I'd like something a little more varied as well. Seems like they could have switched up the objectives so you moved around the map more often than once every 10 rounds. Next time, we should jump into the competitive MP and see how we fair.

Sorry I missed it last night guys - had some severe wife aggro to receive.

Damn game kept me up all night. "Just one more checkpoint," led to, "holy sh*t it is four thirty in the morning." Work will be fun today. I wish I could send my drone in my place.

Call for an airstrike. Problem solved.

I love Mark's reviews. Save the Future Spa!

I must play Future Spa. I had a marathon tournament session of Indiana Jones pinball and Golden Tee yesterday afternoon. If only my local spot had...Future Spa. Mustaches, blinking lights, and body suits...nice.

Please tell me there is also a Magnum P.I. pinball game somewhere.

Just to add. Double xp weekend. Sally and I played a few games last night. Fun stuff even if we got worked a good portion of the time. Really need to get a group with some strong communication I think.

I think he identified the exact reason I'm enjoying this game so much. It's the closest to a real Ghost in the Shell action title we're probably ever going to get.

I finished the campaign last night. It was a fun ride and I liked the tone of the cutscenes. The single player game they made reminds me of Gears of War multiplayer, in that it is flawed in some fundamental ways, but there are flashes of greatness that keep me playing.

I would like to see them go all in a single player adventure. It could be great. The ability to do a stealth only approach every time would be welcome too. I liked planning and directing the team, then pulling off some cool finishing moves. The game forces you in spots to go balls out, even in areas that are not on rails.

Why don't the MP games ever start? Fully lobby and all, map voted on, yet we sit here for five minutes. I put this in to give it another shot, if I don't get in a game by 5 it is definitely being sold.

I played Friday and it was working. Ubisoft servers might be down. I tried AC:R multiplayer and got error just now.

Father's day traffic overload maybe? I know I am using this weekend to get as many gaming hours as possible.

Putting out a beacon tonight. I will be playing adversarial. Do we have enough faithful on the 360 for a silver account? Sound off soldiers!

I have no idea what that means.

I don't either.

Also, asking at 11pm is asking too late

I've played a bit of the versus multiplayer and it's actually fun, but significantly moreso with at least one or two people in a party playing and trying to at least halfway work together.

I think he means making an XBLA silver account called "GWJ Ghost Recon" and friending players to it. That way you can track GWJ folks through the friend of friends feature.

In retrospect, that's pretty clear.

I think there's only maybe five or six of us with the game though, at least for now? I hadn't really tried to count.

I'm still waiting and seeing on the PC version.

I'd be up for playing at some point. Only played a little so far since as ThinJ said, it's much more fun with some other teammates.

Asynchronous communication. So many parallel lines.

This game is definitely more fun with other people. I love the tactical nature of the MP as well. I have been in several Guerilla levels and it reallly forces you to work together. Still working through the campaign, but I have done a couple of levels co-op. The sneak missions with other people is more fun and intense at times.

I'm on board now (360).

I am still down as well.

As am I. I took a break this weekend to check out some of the CQ stuff on BF3 and enjoy more and more of Uncharted 3 but I'll be back.

I wish there was drop-in co-op. I'm on the third mission - any one care to join?

I need some peeps to join mine as well. I think I am a little bit before you, Trashie.

Spoiler:

I just defended the downed cargo plane, and raided the refugee camp. Last scene I watched was Sarge listening to Bob Marley.

I have been through the campaign, but only with bots. I want to play through again co-op. I have not tried Guerilla mode yet either.
