Ghost Recon: Future Soldier

I played some MP yesterday and managed to get to Level 7 or 8 without being very good. Working as a team, you can get loads of points, so I can see folks who are so inclinded to not have to grind as much to get to the top levels.

I've been impressed so far with the MP maps and variety. You absolutely must work as a team if you want to succeed. I got stuck on some run & gun type squads yesterday and never stood a chance. It doesn't seem to be as fast paced as MW type games, so I like that part of it. There are some neat things like a dust storm blowing thru a level that dramatically alter visibility.

On the other hand the game has some bad habits like taking control away from the player too often, and some of the most linear level design in in the history of the entire series. If any of you remember those wide open large landscape co-op maps from GRAW and GRAW 2, there's none of that here, at least as far as I can tell. I haven't explored everything in the multiplayer menu yet so I may be missing something, but I don't think there's anything like that here.

.

Thanks for the reviews. I've played all GR's from the start and enjoyed them. But I remember early on how linear they could be and it drove me nuts how allot of the terrain was not accessiable. (like just climbing up on a rock). And in one GR, can't remember which, in SP, the AI's every shot was a hit(and from a dang long way off!). Uggh!

Anyway, I had heard initial rumors it was so-so and was going to hold off for awhile. But if more positives keep showing up I may not be able to hold out.

The first Rainbow Six was bad at that. Anyone remember the tanker mission? Yeesh. I kept getting sniped from the other side of an oil tanker - dang thing was almost a kilometre in length. When I downed him with a weapons-free order and snuck up to his corpse he had a pistol!

Ghost Recon holds a special place in my heart because it was the first game I played online. I made the difficult decision of getting Ghost Recon 2 and a headset for PS2 instead of San Andreas. And WOW did I make the right decision, this whole world of online gaming was open to me. Now 10 years? later I hate gaming online but I still hold Ghost Recon in high regard, and bought Future Soldier to enjoy the single player, hopefully. But mainly it's going on the wall.

The problem is you are all people. People typically are not my forte because I am the most cynical being that has ever existed, it's my super power.

How dare you sir (or madam)! I'm a fully functioning Canadian from Canuckistan and as the rest of the world knows We Who Live Free But Are Really Cold are not 'people'. I'm sorry.

Seems strange to come to a friendly enthusiast website and tell everyone you hate people. You have been making this statement in a variety of threads. If you hate people so much - why be around them?

Strangeblades, you seem like a perfectly functioning flawed individual, +1!

Just because people give me the creeps doesn't mean I can't be friendly when I am in conversation with like minded individuals. My paying job requires me to question every move a person makes and that analytical thinking has crept into my personal life. That being said don't take what I say to heart, i just may not be trustworthy either.

and oooh I have a fan:-)

Played for an hour earlier today. I really enjoyed what I've played. Definitely going to have to do some co-op.

Couple friends and I beat a map in Guerilla mode last night. It does move the point you defend, but only between two points every ten waves. So you move to another point on wave 10, and then back to the original on wave 20. It's very much a horde mode, just with some slight alterations.

No normal terrorist hunt mode that I could see anywhere.

I was really enjoying the campaign but one my teammates bugged out and wouldn't let me progress any further. He would just keep crawling into a wall and not get up. PS3 restart didn't even fix the problem. I guess I'll try my hand at multiplayer.

Also why does the game have two title screens?

I suck at multiplayer.

I noticed this as well. I don't know who thought it was ok to make people go through more than one "Press Start" screen but that person is an idiot.

And the fact that there is loading to load the next title screen, really?

Looks like I will be picking this up after work, so look for me on 360.

Yes.

I too have a job (reporter) where I question people. I have to ascertain their motivations as to why they are speaking to me, why they chose to answer a question in a certain way, get second, third and fourth sources so I can verify their answers, etc.

You're talking me out of it pretty quickly. :/

Talk to me about Siege mode. Is there any chance at all it gives me enough non-respawn tactical shooter joy to make it worth buying the game?

I really am missing the Rainbow Six games. Terrorist Hunt and Attack & Defend satisfied my non-respawn tense combat desires (or limited respawn, at least, in the case of A&D).

If Siege mode is a versus thing I haven't fiddled with any of it yet.

The game is good, but it really just makes me miss games like the original Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six 3.

It looks good from the outside looking in. I hope it proves decent once I'm in - on PC.

I'll be on once I get home from south Dakota tomorrow.

I would love another true version of either of those games. Hell. I'd settle for another Vegas like game.

I have been doing co-op with Jekl, and I am really liking it. Tried a little bit of the MP this morning, and I think if we could get a full GWJ team, we could dominate. People down this week?

If I can dig myself out of Diablo 3 again I would really like to try out the versus stuff with you guys.

Picked this up today , between this, Dragon's Dogma and D3 gonna be hard to get playtime in Would love to hook up with some of you for multiplayer , Xbox Gamertag is Faiyde.

Wanna get in on some co-op, too.

Played one MP game and won, had a decent showing. The controls took me a little while to get used to and I had no idea what was going on, for the most part. There's very little in the way of a tutorial if you just dive straight into MP.

Thursday nights after 9 EST are out for me, though.

9 central tonight?

Fine by me. Co-op or competitive? Is there a point in the campaign I should play up to?

Anybody know where I can find a uplay 2 day trial? I rented the game from Redbox and there is way to many multiplayer features are cut off. It makes it really hard for me to figure out if I want to buy it or not.
