Tribes: Ascend Catch All

Also, I'd be willing to pony up for a Goodjer private server -- they're not available yet, right?

Nope, not yet.

Damn, missed the thread yesterday and didn't get to join in to last night's festivities. I will be around most of the weekend though, would love to get some rounds in.

Dropped some coin for the VIP, gold and XP boost. This is pushing all the right buttons but I just wish it had a SP campaign like (but better than) Tribes: Vengeance.

I've got an extra beta key that none of my friends need. First PM can have it.

Bleh. It's been over a month since I've played this and now that I tried to play some more, the game crashes when I am about to load up a server. Hope this gets fixed soon because a driver refresh didn't do the trick.

It's now an open beta. No keys needed.

Fixed it.

You can get 250 gold by liking a Tribes facebook page.

I just liked it, got the code, then killed the app and unliked.

I actually really liked the Tribes: Vengeance campaign, the story in particular was really well done for an FPS. It definitely had the hallmarks of an Irrational game.

This game needs matchmaking in such a major way.

Also an ignore list.

I just installed last night. Username is "billlewis" and I'm going to be in vent for at least an hour if anyone else feels like playing a game with this noob.

I won't be on, but an event's been posted for anyone willing to put on their blades tonight. 9 EST

Things I learned tonight:

1) Yup, still needs matchmaking.

2) Proximity mines are awesome! Who needs generators to play a tech?

3) Supply station call-ins don't need power! (Also helpful with no generators. :D)

Yep. My thoughts kind of matched his on the Arena Mode. Don't like the death by falling aspect very much. Seems completely counter to most of the game mechanics where skiing and speed are very important.

I'm not too keen on the Arena mode myself. I'm pretty proficient with the bolt launcher now and can hold my own against stronger classes, but I *REALLY* like grabbing flags. Like, really. There's very little I like more.

I like complaining about you grabbing my flag. You jerk.

I'm halfway to the 100k mark again, wondering if I should go thumper for tech or mirv for juggernaut both seem like great upgrades to the standard class weapon.

Yup, you can't go wrong with either.

Does anyone know how they ae going to handle launch? I'm assuming they are not going to wipe existing characters since people have already been contributing real money but I'm not sure how that's going to wash with a large influx of level 1 players.

There will be no reset, and if they adjust stuff, so far they've been giving refunds and/or letting you respect.

There will always be level 1 players to deal with.

I personally like the thumper more, though I also suck at aiming so the Assault Rile was always a little hard for me to use. The mirv is fun too though.

Cool, good to know.

I really like the payment options for this game and I hope other publishers take notice. It's really neat how you can grind everything out if you have the time (and attention span) or pay for a boost at several different price points.

For me, $30 is a great price point for a new, solid MP shooter and I am happy with the boosts and gold for unlocks that come with that. For other folks it may be less, but the fact that there are options up to free to play really sets the game up to have a successful community for a long time.

Showmatch on http://www.nasl.tv right now.

Does Bounty Hunter just give you more points in round to buy stuff, or does it also give you more points toward class unlocks?

Just more in match credits. I run it on Soldier as I'm usually disrupting defense when I play that class and throwing in random strikes can be nice.

Wanna go engineer and need some tips. Besides waiting to unlock the engie class with enough XP what else should I do?

1) Get my soldier to grab a tool kit at base and keep the machines repaired?

2) What is a good defensive gun? I'm thinking a medium ranged rifle and the Thumper(?). In tight spaces it would be easier to score some damage with an explosive.

The tool kit is hopelessly slow without the mechanic perk selected, best to leave that job to the technicians, however they do appreciate help in getting the generator back up and running. In base you'll want to be using the Thumper, it gets pretty chaotic and it's damn hard to track with the AR in tight quarters. Out on the field the Thumper is your best bet if the enemy is landlocked without energy, then the AR to finish off stragglers or chase flag runners. Always keep an eye out for pathfinders who get dinged by a turret, they are pretty close to death and an easy kill for your AR.

One more thing about the assault rifle, it can be tricky to aim. I found the best way to get decent at it is to ignore the crosshair as much as you can and focus on the bullet stream, you'll probably see your accuracy increase pretty dramatically.
