Tribes: Ascend Catch All

Is there a set night for Tribes play? I'm interested but I'm not sure I want to leap into playing it without other people who don't know what they're doing :P

I've been on pretty much every night, seeing as I've got 14 days left on my booster I intend to make the most of it It's actually pretty accessible as far as tribes games go, you don't worry about loadouts and such, just pick your class and go. That's not to say there isn't depth though, it'll be a while before you learn the best ski routes and longer still before spinfusor shots become second nature.

I played a pair of matches today and thought it was great fun. Do the starter classes have special abilities to use at the start or no? The tutorials were pretty thin on details so I'm concerned I'm missing something.

Otherwise it's weird to play a game where killing someone feels like an accomplishment and a flag capture leaves my pulse racing.

off-topic,
Looking at videos, Blacklight Retribution seems pretty bad, agree?

Disagree. What I've played is pretty fun. I just had some menu crash problems so was waiting for an update. Need to go back and try it again.

I am interested in a key if there are any more available. Please and Thank you.

I still haven't actually gone past the tutorial I need to play this one, but I've gotten back into BF3 a lot lately.

I'll PM you one. I hadn't figured out where they were until now

Thank you very much, Mannish!

OK I absolutely suck at this, but that did not stop me from playing till 2am. I remember having some skill back when plying tribes and tribes 2. I guess I am getting old

I think this game is going to have some legs.

Has anyone gone for the VIP pass thing for the 3,00 gold just to unlock some classes?

Parallax and I both have the VIP pass and if you think you are going to be playing long term the 30 bucks is definitely worth it. I've spent half the gold which got me most of the classes unlocked, but with the booster active I'm going to have the final class unlocked this evening, and I'm only halfway through my 30 day booster at this point. I'm really curious as to what else they are going to add, so I'm saving 1400 gold for the actual launch.

Alright! So I've spent some more time with it and I'm digging it - just bought a ten day booster (looking to get Scrambler and Sentinel). I did see a friends list thingy so I'm Ganymede in game if anyone would add me! Can you jump to friends' games with that functionality?

Another thing, has anyone gotten far enough to swap out the Perks? I'm wondering which ones are actually worth going for and by extension much more valuable to other load-outs than the ones they come from. It seems like the Super Heavy one I've noticed on heavies seems great, when you are sitting pretty on the flag, but the Soldier's are kinda meh. Anyone got a good combination worked out yet?

Damn you! I've played a few rounds against you and you seem to have your cap routes down pretty good

I have one class left to unlock. My recommendation if you enjoy this game is buy the $30 booster. You get plenty of gold to unlock classes, or if you want to hang on to the gold to see what they release later on, the 30 day booster will get you well on your way to unlocking the classes. I'm only one class away from having everything unlocked at this point and still have 1400 gold leftover for whatever is next out of Hirez for this game.

At this point though I'm fairly confident in saying you can't expect to be at all competitive without buying in.

I only have one class left to unlock as well - Jumper. I've been playing more team deathmatch than capture the flag. I've unlocked everything for the Soldier, I think it's the best class for deathmatch.

Finally played a real online round or three last night. Just played some TDM (one flag). I didn't do as badly as I would have thought I would, so either the matchmaking is pretty decent, or you can pick it up reasonably quickly.

Fun. I can see myself putting some time in it. Not sure if I want the $30 pack or not. Looks like I have a coupon in my account for 30% off, though. Guess that would mean the pack would be $20.

So if you're thinking about buying the booster, go to your coupon page from here.

Are the boosters for 30 days playing, or 30 consecutive days? I assume a 30 consecutive calendar day booster, but just wanted to make sure.

Do you guys play at any specific time/day? Do you go into Vent when you play?

Pretty clueless about a lot of stuff. I had one of the Tribes games, but never played much of it because I was pretty much a Quake guy, with a touch of Unreal on the side.

Saw this from IGN:

Wow...I didn't realize that there was a coupon page. That might just get me to spend some more money.

Also the boosters are for consecutive days. I've heard that if you buy the VIP pack you can activate the booster at any time, but I'd like someone to confirm that.

True, I've yet to activate it and I paid for the beta on the day of its release.

I just found it when I was looking to see if I had any more friend codes to give out. My coupon has seemingly been in there since I signed up in September to try to get into the beta.

Went ahead and bought the little beta package thing even though I haven't played that much. I did put in a few more hours today, though, and really am enjoying my time in the game. Even managed 3/5 flag captures on a map tonight!

Just got my beta key today. Tagging to keep an eye out for future GWJ game nights.

Sweet! Got my beta key too! Tribes was my favorite shooter back in the day - I have high hopes for this!

I want to play a bunch more of this. I got so busy that I ended up wasting more of the VIP booster I got by ordering the pre-release package. Would love a GWJ game night.

Anybody that wants in the beta can apparently just like them on facebook now according to the launcher.

I hope to play some this weekend. If I remember, I'll try to hop in Vent. Is that what the cool kids do? I see there's a channel.

I'll try and do the same. Need more tokens!

Well I just got my invite in the mail. Hopefully I can try it out this weekend!

Shoot me a message on Steam if you'd like a Tribes partner. If you're not already on my friends list my profile is linked in my signature. I can lend advice to people new to the series.

I'm sitting on 20k of tokens now, hoping that we see some new classes at launch

My first double kill tonight!

Been playing a little bit every night when I don't have a night shift at work and loving it, though I will say that playing against players who are double, at minimum, my rank can become an exercise in frustration.

I played a bunch of games of TDM tonight. Most rounds I was at least even. One round I had 14 flag carrying medals when I got my skiing down pat on that loop around the snow map. Had a blast, even playing by myself.

Hung out in Vent to see if anybody else was around. Hope to catch you guys soon.

EDIT: Does putting people from the thread in your friends list actually do anything yet, or is it pointless and not implemented at this stage?

Putting people in your friend list lets you see who's currently playing and you can join their game, though you can't see what team their on as far as I know. Through the feedback emails to HiRez I've suggested to them to somehow show what type of game your friends are in (CTF, Team DB, Rabbit) and when joining to let you see what team they're on. We'll see if they actually implement this.

Ok. I've added several people from here. They just pop into the list so fast it almost seems like it's not doing any kind of database check, and I've never seen anybody online.

yeah...I'm not sure how reliable it is. I've seen a few people on once in a while, but with how many people I have in my list and how much I've been playing I was expecting to see more.

I have about 9400 tokens now, almost the 9800 needed for another class. I'm thinking I might go for the scrambler. That ARX buster always seems to get me so I figured it'd be nice to have that are part of my arsenal. I still haven't unlocked Infiltrator which is surprising considering how cheap it is. Seems like that might be a fun class as well with the stealth option.

As one playing Infiltrator exclusively for a week or so, I'll say the Scrambler is the scissors to my paper. Not only do they have that nasty Jammer AOE, but the ARX Buster is also quite deadly in confined spaces. The roles play differently, but you'll want to be where Infiltrators are, near the Power Generator room.

I'm a believer! I was skeptical of the F2P loadout at first, and, considering the full-on obscene amount of hours I put into Tribes and Tribes 2, I was prepared for disappointment.

This changed in a heartbeat the first time I pegged someone out of the sky, while skiing downhill at 140kph, with a spinfusor, on my first match.

I am also a huge fan of the changes they made to farming and repair/upgrade.
