Giant Bomb Bomb-All

That is incredible.

Have you never played Moonwalker, Tuffalo?

Nope! Setting it up with a couple controllers to play with a friend this evening, though.

Austin namedrops the Genesis version of Shadowrun.

Your stock is rising, Number Two.

Oh, it's bonkers. My little brother had it on Genesis so I got to play that version as a kid.

The Genesis version is nothing like the arcade version. I've only played the arcade version, but I read a walk through of the Genesis version in EGM or something, and the arcade game is an isometric brawler while the Genesis version is a side-scroller.

Both are cool.

Everyone should listen to the e-mail section of this week's Beastcast.

Is this a reference? If so, what are you referencing?

Weird. I've played both and don't remember the arcade version being isometric.

Beastcast is like an Idle Thumbs where the hosts actually play video games.

Snark aside the Beastcast is my new favorite 'cast. I don't love every aspect of it, but so far it's hitting solidly every week.

(Thumbs is still in my top three. :D)

I just finished this week's Beastcast. That was a prime example of the kind of deep-diving discussion that I love, because it wasn't predicated on feeling superior to anyone, or about how anyone not in earshot of the discussion is wrong. It was just four people talking about something that really interested them.

Lots more of that, please!

It continues.

*My understanding is that most of the cast of Contradiction now have accounts on Giantbomb and have been thanking them and the community there a bunch.

I did not know that Contradiction - Spot the Liar!! was a kickstarter project, and a recently completed one at that

Also, there's a good overview of the cast if you scroll down on this developer updates page. Jenks was originally going to be played by a different actor

Well, those two Contradiction let's play videos got me to subscribe for a month. I must know what happens!

You wont be disappointed

They're going to take a break from it - probably to allow people to buy and finish it on their own. I'm sure they'll get back to it, but not right away.

As much as I love to see money thrown at giant bomb, you should totally buy this game too! Then go back and watch the videos. The most recent one is particularly excellent, plus features an awesome surprise cameo.

GBE Playdate: Contradiction - Part 02

This is the best news I've read all week.

Yes! I was watching Inspector Lewis the other day and was sorely disappointed that Lewis threw a total of zero devil horns during his investigation.

Also, they're doing their Rocket League rematch today

I finally got around to watching the original vids, and can't quite decide what I liked most--Alex's riff on the actor's training being nothing but watching the 10th Doctor (which I could not unsee), or Austin's succinct and hilarious "Cumberbotch."

It's pretty exciting.

That first game was great. Just the complete confusion by Dan that GBEast was coordinating was hilarious.

"Wha....what are they doing? It's like they're strategizing or something."

Jeff: "Yeah, they're using teamwork."

I made a few things with the Giantbomb.com api. Seems like the api boards there don't see much traffic and 2 of the 3 things I built are game-centric clones of normal card games that this community is probably pretty familiar with. The 3rd one is mostly for old folks who can be nostalgic for the 80's and 90's consoles, so that fits this community pretty well too I imagine.

Check them out if you like:

Taboo-like game

Cards Against Humanity/Apples to Apples type game

Endless Runner/Jumper through game release date timeline

These are html5 apps designed for mobile device screens, but they'll work mostly fine in a full-screen browser too.

If I showed you THIS! ...does that mean anything to you?

I am always amused when people talk about media insularity like its a surprising thing, as in the Oculus thing.

I've been a gun owner for almost as long as I've been a gamer, and every few years the magazines run some human interest story where they send some intrepid reporter to the flyover country to report on the Gun People. They always come back with these breathless, Jane Goodal reports about how gun owners are so much like real people.

About five years ago I noticed they started to do it with gamers. These "Geeks in the Mist" pieces always start the same:

Herman steps out of the door of his beige raised-ranch and hops into his late model Honda Civic. He goes to work at the widget factory where he designs widgets. He has a smart wife, Rebecca, who he loves dearly, and is a friendly, outgoing person. He's highly regarded in the community, does volunteer work at the local shelter, and enjoys reading.

By day. At night he roams the countryside of Hyrule with a sword killing monsters. Herman is a Gamer.

Then the price goes on to describe Herman's "weird" habits, the better to identify people like him in the wild.

I don't think they're trying to be condescending, though it's hard to think of what they'd do differently if they were trying. I think it's just the nature of the business. They don't encounter gun owners or gamers much day to day, and when they do it's because they're reporting on something awful involving one or the other, so naturally it comes as a bit of a shock to find out we're actually human beings. I just find it funny how it keeps on happening.

"${GROUP} in the mist" is an infuriating article to read no matter what.
"Would you imagine nudists/war gamers/colon cancer survivors are people just like us?"
Yes.
I would.

This Poly Bridge quick look sold me on the game. Mostly, I'm just getting frustrated with Vinnie's bridge ideas and want to have a go myself.

Edit: Great bit from the QL goes something like this.

Alex: Now you're just building towers. This isn't even doing anything.
Austin: He's gonna build towers and then climb to the top of it...
Vinnie: Well right, because it doesn't break, it falls.
*bridge breaks*
Alex: Yeah... that's breaking.

Aaaand Austin gets in a box quote: "I've never seen a bridge that looks like this."
