Great Big Tracts of Land, or How I Bought a Castle

That is AWESOME. If I ever find myself in Ohio, I know where I'm going to stay!

Zounds, that is mind-blowingly cool. Good luck with the usual real estate transaction stuff: closing, dungeon inspection, ghost exorcisms, pest control for the rats in the walls, moat-digging, etc!

We intend to use fledgling adventurers to take care of those.

The real irony there is that Ohio won the "war", but ended up with Toledo anyway.

There were no winners in that war. Michigan ended up with the Upper Penninsula.

1. The UP is awesome
2. Vast mineral reserves + timber

This site never ceases to surprise me. Congrats on the purchase, Teneman. Assuming the paperwork goes smoothly, I'll be petitioning the Mrs. for a trip to Ohio in the near future!

"Come Stay, My Lord!"

I can't come up with a decent slogan, but you should definitely put up a big sign that perpetually says "002 Days since last Dragon attack". :-D

Brilliant!

I am watching this with great interest. It's only about 2.5 hours from me

I was thinking "Stay now, my Lord!"

I, too, would be willing to consider PenCon attendance for this.

Someone creative needs to come up with a compelling ghost story for this place once Teneman owns it. Just the hint of the supernatural should bring in loads of people.

I was definitely thinking along these lines as well.

PenCon could be even more interesting, as if it wasn't interesting enough already.

Grats on the castle! The possibilities here are vast.

If you do a S&T there, is it ok if you only invite some, and another city of S&T people come an lay seige to your castle?

Great idea! I would be willing to fight for either side, as long as they were well-provisioned with mead and other sundries

That is f**king awesome! Congratulations, and I hope all the closing junk goes through without a hitch!

2791 km to stay in a castle... a worthy goal!

I nominate Paleo as the master-at-arms / castellan, and Robear as the maester / renaissance fair grounds master. Malor will be the master of coin, and Boogle shall be in charge of the pillow house.

Don't forget Marsman in that list Gorilla.

Paleo, I trip to King's Island would be closer but, not nearly as fun as Cedar Point.

I... I may have to make a trip to Ohio.

"Stay Discreetly, My Lord."

Congrats to the (sale-pending) new feudal lord of New Plymouth, OH.

You're right. Marsman can be either the armorer, or the headmaster, or both. Seeing his predilection to motorcycles, he can also lead the van of the heavy horse. Or apply as the stablesmaster. Up to him, really.

OK, I guess I'm going to have to be the one to ask...

What the hell is a castle doing in Ohio?

Have to have some way to protect ourselves against encroachment by the filthy Michiganders. Sure, it's further south than you'd think, but given how fast Toledo fell the last time around we figured we needed another line of defense.

Dang straight! Obligatory remark from a U of M alum: We were never allowed to go out when we played games at BGSU, because Bowling Green is the syphillus capital of the US.

Anyway, AWESOME CASTLE! I reccomend a moat.

Wow.

But it already has a barbican. With crenellations.

But moats give your archers an extra minute of arrow shooting while the attacker's animiation freezes on the moat. Didn't you ever play Castles?

Geez. Way to take the wind out of my sails. I was all excited about refinancing my mortgage. On a boring old house. Pfft.

So now I just have to figure out how to sell my wife on taking a trip to Ohio. I mean when I put the list together for reason to go to Ohio I have:

1. Stay in a castle
2. .....

Yeah, I'm kinda drawing a blank here.

He has effectively killed all future threads relating to homeownership. All else will pale in comparison.

As a life long resident of Ohio you pretty much have the whole list there.

Aren't there any premier shopping outlets in the entire Central Ohio?

Wrong.

2. Cedar Point

And that's all the reasons you need. Which is good because that really is where the reasons dry up.

Too bad Cedar point is 3 1/2 hrs away.

mrtomaytohead wrote:

Fixed that for you.

Just noticed that a dedicated thread was started for this. Gratz Teneman! I hope everything goes well with the purchase. I will have to try and make an S&T when those start happening.

Yeah, I'm kinda drawing a blank here.

I've filled in your missing #2. I think staying in a castle is just slightly more popular than it.
