Baldur's Gate 3 Catch-All

They've got the original source code and are doing an update with additional content.

It's not an iPad version or a Facebook game so that's good for me. They don't say if they're enhancing the graphics or other assets but even if they just made it natively support widescreen and newer Windows versions, that plus the added content sells me.

I read this a couple times.. still don't understand it.. and why should people be fired?

They should be fired because they're not giving any information at all, I think is the idea. Some would argue that since we're talking about it they did their job well.

The rest of the point is: If this wasn't something like a FB game and it were just an awesome HD remake of Baldur's Gate then they would have announced that. He thinks they're holding something back because it's not good news for BG fans. There's a lot of assumptions in there.

It's a little bluster but they really botched the "announcement". I think the whole idea of countdowns is bad anyway because it rarely pleases the audience it's intending to please but what do we know about this? Nothing.

Does anyone really want new BG content? Especially from someone other than BioWare?

No platforms have been confirmed so we don't know anything. Great marketing to blow their first impression.

I do. Because Bioware isn't interested in games like BG anymore, keep them away.

Yeah, we need BioWare to add a new ending involving red, blue or green explosions...

Umm, why wouldn't you just download the Big World Project mod for Baldur's Gate? I recently bought BG1 and BG2 on GoG.com and downloaded those mods. It allows me to play in widescreen mode at high resolutions. Plus you can download a bunch of mods that add new content to the game. And it's all free.

The Big World Project is so awesome. I love being able to play with the BG2 interface in BG1.

Edit: Actually, it even puts all of the content into the BG2 engine. So you're not only playing in high resolution, your playing in the newer version of their engine. It's all around awesome.

Exactly! I will wait with bated breath to see if this is worth my time. As much as I would love to see it come to fruition and be done well, I do not have high expectations. No need to hype myself to become disappointed.

Well yeah, I guess that's true. Really though I'd rather someone make a new game then hack onto a classic. This is just weird to me. Plenty of "enhanced" editions already exist, as mentioned in previous posts.

I'm torn on this one. I have BG1 and 2 and both expansions still on disk. I have yet to play through Throne of Baal, and am always toying with restarting the whole thing using mods that are out there. Time is a factor here. The thing is, I already have the majority of this content. I will be interested to see if the tweaks they add will make it worth my while to pick this up. Also, I'm hoping this is a $20 title, as the majority of the content is out there in other forms for so cheap.

Heads up, y'all, GamersGate chose an opportune time to put all those D&D classics on sale: http://www.gamersgate.com/DDB-DBAMC/...

Aw, I was really hoping for at least a couple of screenshots.

Let's Enhance!

BG and BG2 are some of my all time absolute favorite video games and this is a dangerous proposition for them. They can easily screw this up and I'm very happy to keep playing the games with the updates that the community has already done. I am worried they are going to update the ruleset to D&D 4E and that will drive me batty with rage.

Wow, running the game in 4E to me would be a huge undertaking. You would essentially need to switch the combat to a more MMO styled version. I hope they don't touch the actual mechanics. Just make it pretty, make it run smooth, and that is it.

For what it's worth, Overhaul Games is run by a bunch of ex-BioWare guys, presumably from the "old guard". I knew there were mods for the game but I didn't know about that Big World mod at all. I really don't know how I missed that but holy crap. I'm still going to wait and see what these guys do but if it's not the substantial upgrade I hope it is, I'll add that mod to my massive pile.

OK that helps a lot. Still would prefer they make a new game.

Atari, Wizards of the Coast, and Overhaul Games are pleased to announce work has begun on the Enhanced Edition of Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II.

Since its initial release in 1998, Baldur’s Gate has entertained millions of fans around the globe, and has received countless awards. This classic saga of mystery, intrigue, and adventure has set the standard for Dungeons & Dragons® computer roleplaying games ever since.
Overhaul Games has assembled a talented team of artists, programmers and designers to enhance this timeless classic. To remain true to the spirit of the game, the team includes original Baldur’s Gate developers.
Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition™ and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition™ will feature a re-forged version of the Infinity Engine with a variety of modern improvements.
Further details regarding platforms, content, etc. will be released later.

I just hope they don't screw it up by thinking iOS first and PC second.

An HD remake with extra content? Yes, I will buy. the only question is if it will be a day 1 purchase for my all time favorite series or a wait a few months for the inevitable Steam sale.

Much hatred do I sense in this thread

won't be on Steam. Beamdog is a competing platform.

Personally, if they do this right, I will purchase it on day one and pay full price for it.

Let's be completely honest, the mods were good. They allowed us to play the BG series on modern resolutions and such but the icons were either too small or bog, the textures in the game were definitely not made for modern resolutions and appeared grainy.

I really want an overhaul of the graphics so that everything is larger and not grainy. I know graphics are not as important in an RPG but... come on it does affect things to an extent. Also, the inventory system should be upgraded to BG2's inventory. And general updates to modernize the game. I think many of us would love a game+ version after completing the game once (or even at the start of the game since most of us have already played it through once).

I would also like to see different dialogue options, that are not as black or white. But that's asking a lot I think.

Nothing Nothing Nothing about 4E which is broken should be here. Cos Wand of Magic Missiles does not exist in 4E, heck ALL that is good about magical items/artifacts/relics is totally destroyed in 4E.

Day 1 purchase for me if it comes out at least a month after Diablo3, cos nothing trumps Diablo3.

Still hoping for iOS, then, but it certainly smells like PC.

GemRB

It had best still be AD&D - none of that new fangled nonsense. Lest I set Boo upon thy Eyes!
