Baldur's gate sequel. Boo now has a family of 5 little hamsters!!!!
Go for the eyes Booties, GO FOR THE EYES!
An Ipad port would be cool, even though I don't have an Ipad. I still have my original disks for BG 1 and 2, and need to complete the expansion one of these days. It does seem like the type of game I would love to play on a touch screen type scenario though. If it is a direct sequel, well that just means incentive to replay the whole game with mods and hi res packs. I also would love a HD remake as well.
Moving all the characters around on a touch screen seems like it would be awful... not sure how viable this ends up being for the iPad.
BG is completely married to Second Edition, so if they re-used the Infinity engine, it would have to be a new 2E game.
I'm not sure what you mean by this. Icewind Dale 2 used a modified version of 3rd edition, and there are hacks you can use on the Baldur's Gate games to get them to use the IWD2 engine for a pseudo-3rd edition Baldur's Gate experience already.
All we know for sure is that we must gather our party before venturing forth.

From what I hear, the Spiderweb Software game(s) that are for iPad work really, really well with the touch screen.
I believe it's only Avadon so far, but he's porting his older games over (and updating them). Avadon is a party-based game with turn based combat.
Don't let it end like this.
I played this, but never finished. I've wanted to, and especially to get my kids into it. I'm also seriously thinking about pulling out my Amiga 500 and Gateway to the Savage Frontier. I'd *prefer* to play Pool of Radiance or Curse of the Azure Bonds, but I have neither of the latter while having the original boxed edition of the former. I'd dig some Eye of the Beholder, too; Legend of Grimrock looks to be a nice update on that format.
Which is to say I'd prefer it be an iOS port for the sake of both convenience and, primarily, restraint. Just as chess and go don't require updating to attract players, neither does Baldur's Gate. It seems we're approaching the shallower range of the logarithmic curve, where Moore's Law compels fewer game-design considerations. (That actually sounds like the myopic "This is $YEAR, haven't we reached $ARBITRARY_ENLIGHTENMENT_METRIC?" meme, and maybe it is, but it's 2012 so aren't we over popular memes?)
I will punch you so hard in the face, Larry. RIGHT TO THE MOON!
You can take yourself to the Asura's Wrath thread if you're going to talk like that up in here. :p

For the record, I read this in the appropriate voice.
I found this little blurb on Blues News which peaked my interest.
A graphical update (maintaining the 2D art) with a streamlined interface and maybe (MAYBE) even newer D&D rules would be pretty awesome. But really, just a graphical/interface update would be boss.
I'll be curious to see where this goes.
You can play Baldur's Gate on an IPad with GemRB and the GOG version of Baldur's Gate.
If this is, as Certis and others have said, nothing more than graphics and engine update, it'll be freaking awesome. Anything more than that will be boss.
And for those wanting a nostalgia trip *now* go buy it and BG2 from GoG, and sort through the forums at GoG to get the one world mod installed where you can play through the whole thing in widescreen higher res BG2 engine.
Huh. I just reinstalled actually. Might actually finish it this time. Personally, I think the BG2 graphics are fine; it really doesn't need a graphical update.
I just can't help being bemused at the number of times the same pattern repeats. An old franchise is teased, PC gamers get themselves all worked up, and it's an iPad port.

BG2 is my all time favorite game to this day, and even I am not getting my hopes up on this one.

If there is a sequel, it better not be anything like Fallout 3 was to Fallout 1 and 2. All hell will break loose onto this blue earth if they disgrace my beloved Baldur's Gate. Strong nerd rage impending.
Mwahahaha! All hail Kingdoms of the Sword Coast: Reckoning!
Seriously, though, I get it. It's just that I'm on an Amalur streak right now and I tend to want everything be whatever I'm liking at the moment.
Wait, you were serious at first? I thought that was some first-rate sarcasm. I agree with Minarchist, the BG series was all about the writing and character interactions. I'd like an HD update but the game needs no other changes. 2E D&D is the last version I played anyway.
Fallout 3 with swords, most probably.
I'll acknowledge that as funny.
Wait, in what universe was Fallout 3 a disgrace? It was incredibly well-done!

I read books to appreciate good writing.
I play computer games to have fun.
I play computer role-playing games to kill stuff and take their loot using my own uniquely crafted character.
I am the anti-Bioware.
I did put a hell of a lot of hours into BG and BG2, though I never finished either. I thought I preferred IWD, but when I bought it from GoG recently and tried to replay it, I was nearly reduced to tears by the amount of reloading from saves every single battle required. Must be getting old.

Yep, by the time I was done with work and found out about this development the page was unavailable...first world problem.
A countdown now? This keeps giving me the feeling of a letdown.

Malor, meet the universe of rabid fallout 1/2 fanboyism that is the No Mutants Allowed forums.
edit: wikia entry about them. Apparently, they aren't so down on New Vegas.
