Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Catch-All – Shepards with Jobs

Yeah there are icons for weekend events. But the challenge counter for events is at 0. Makes a lot of sense.

Data for the challenges starts new with the dlc release. The people you saw are probably flunking out of community college.

I can't help thinking that ME3 MP now is on one half extending the game for those inclined to pay for packs, and the other half a test lab for a bigger MP release down the road. Kudos to them for handing out new interesting stuff now, it's not mind-blowing or anything, but good decent content. Makes me wonder how much they're pulling in from the packs as they're not doing it for kicks.

I got...I got...I got new stuff! I mean, I got a Quarian Male Engineer which is months and months old, but it's new to me!

I also got the Collector SMG, and it is utter sh*t. It "doesn't use thermal clips," so says the flavor text, so I thought I'd check it out, see how that works. It works as follows--it's an SMG with a 30 shot clip, which, when depleted, goes through a cool down animation, then regenerates. So, 30 shot SMG, those clips don't last long. But the cool down takes FOR-EV-ER. I eyeball counted it out to 6 or 7 seconds to complete the whole process. You can start firing as soon as shots start regenerating, but then you're out even faster. I was doing a Silver, and at level 1 with the damage add-on, the Collector SMG seemed to do about a fifth to a quarter of a Cannibal in damage. Yeah. Additionally, you have to go through the whole animation--it won't just automatically regen after a set time. And anything that interrupts that animation set you back at 0--dodging, power use, taking cover, getting his by a Banshee, all of those. Yeah. Awful. Avoid.

That's the price of having a gun with infinite ammo. You don't use it as your primary, you use it as a backup for when you can't get to an ammo dump. I prefer the Prothean particle rifle for that, personally.

I got the Collector rifle (level 1) and tried it once. I ended up with about 25K points on Silver, I think. The problem is that the Collector weapons just don't hit nearly hard enough to be worth anything.

I used my Krogan Train last night against Collectors on Silver. Either I had a subtly awful connection, they nerfed it, or they glitched it, because I was getting killed very, very easily. Like, two or three shots and you're out. It was awful.

On the other hand, the new Turians are beasts. They have a mode that gives them massive boosts to damage output, melee, and shields (up to 4000 shields if you choose that tree). You enter the mode by using an item (which renews itself with each match, not from your own pool like health packs), not a power, but here's the thing: those items count as grenades. You have two, but then you get more by using your +grenades equipment perks, and you get new ones by hitting the ammo crates. And they really sped up how quickly crates give out grenades. I'm interested in seeing how they nerf that in three weeks.

I think Collector's just kick ass. I got into a couple of matches yesterday against them (Gold) and we never got past wave 3. And this was with a full team of 18+ level characters with good weapons and whatnot.

Yeah the Collectors are super aggressive. its like they don't even know what cover is most of the time and just rush you constantly. I'd still rather fight them than those god forsaken Cerberus Dragoons! They're really fast, Armored and have an area melee attack. whats not to hate?

They suck, but they seem to have a glass jaw. Dragoons don't seem to be damage sponges like Phantoms--once you get a bead on them, they go down quick. Not that they aren't wrecking your sh*t before that.

New balances, kit, and hazards.

BW damage increase? And I still don't have one...

Ooooooooh snap, Widow damage increase! I need to finish off releveling all those other, lesser classes and get back to my precious Infiltrator. As much frustration as I've had getting classes, I won't complain about my Widow VIII.

Looks like the Krogan Shaman Adept has Warp, Barrier and Shockwave.

I don't have one yet, but I saw someone call it a "frontline adept." Sounds fearsome.

I have one and it's a lot of fun to play an adept that isn't a glass cannon. Melee / barrier is an interesting spec route. Can't ever go wrong with warp.

I'm seeing these guys do well in biotic teams on gold -- they're the only ones who can withstand enough damage to pick everyone up if the team wipes.

I have bought two PSPs this week, and I've gotten 4 Krogan Shamans (Shamen??) out of them. I tried one round with one and didn't do very well at all. I had spec'ed Shockwave for power, and evidently you need to pick the width and length options instead (paging Lobster Mobster, easy joke here).

BTW, there aren't going to be community challenges any more (or at least regularly), just individual ones. This weekend's is to earn a Melee Gold Medal with a Krogan, any map, any difficulty. I am going to try a solo run on Bronze and see how it goes. I think I could also solo Silver with the MurderTrain with a little luck on what objectives I draw. I'll report back on how it goes.

Yeah, I'd say girth is more important than raw power but it's really all in how you use it.

Shamans (Shamen??)

Shaman is the plural of shaman, and the feminine is Shamanka.

The more you know...

Forgot to add the most important part for the weekend challenge: They have upped the number of kills for Melee Gold Medal from 15 to 50. Happy punching!

Yeah I did solo bronze krogan train for that one event a few weeks back. Very easy.

Weekend Operation:

Bioware wrote:

Operation VALKYRIE (Oct. 26th – 28th)

An elite asari unit recently recovered shipments of Alliance weapons that had been intercepted by Cerberus. The weapons will soon be delivered to the front lines where they belong. With fresh supplies and skilled reinforcements, we were able to increase the number of targets planned for our next assault.

Individual Goal: Earn 100,000 points using N7 promotional weapons (Valiant, Hurricane, Crusader, Eagle) on any map at any difficulty. The four weapons may be used in combination. Points will be cumulative. Extraction is not required.

Reward: Commendation Pack

Other: The N7 Valkyrie assault rifle will be added to the list of possible commendation pack items.

Lots of changes.

Totally forgot to play last weekend for the event.

They changed the challenge. It is now 50K with one gun (still of the four commendation weapons), and you can do it across multiple games. I did it and got a Crusader 3.

I was thinking 100k sounded unduly difficult. Still might have to solo Geth on bronze with a human engineer, just to see how it goes.

Points, like, damage? Points earned with one of those guns? Points any way you can get them, as long as one of those guns is equipped and out? I only ask because I only have really sh*tty versions of all those guns, and I really don't like any of them.

Also, I think they could stand to lose a Dragoon from Gold. Or at least spread them out a bit.

Yeah Valiant is the only one I've used regularly, on a couple of Infiltrator builds.

I got the weekend achievement tonight. From what I saw, the points seemed to be based on damaged dealt out with the guns.
I ended up with the Valkyrie.

Going in, I wasn't sure about this weekend's challenge. I only had the Crusader 1 and I wasn't a huge fan of it. However, after using it for multiple runs tonight, I can see myself choosing it in the future.

Picked up the N7 Slayer in a pack yesterday. Lots of fun. First time I've really enjoyed focusing on melee.

The Crusader and Hurricane are very good guns, and the Valiant is good too. I used the Valiant for the challenge. The Eagle is the only one I actively dislike.

The Valiant is the one I don't have. Story of my ME3 life.

Upon review, and completing the weekend challenge, yeah, the Crusader isn't bad--I think I might put it on classes that aren't power-focused along with an AR. The Hurricane pulls up too much and is too tough to control for my tastes. And, of course, none of my N7 commendation guns are above III, so there's that.

Looking over the weapon challenges, I'm torn. I like being given a reason to mess around with other guns, but I don't relish using, say, the Incisor that much.

For the Hurricane, I would stack as much recoil and spread reduction as possible on it. It can be very good on, say, a Turian as a second gun.
