Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Catch-All – Shepards with Jobs

They have different power sets, dodges and melee attacks.

Different Health and Shields in some cases (I am thinking about Krogran and Turians vs everyone else).

How exactly do you rebind keys in multiplayer?

Your multiplayer abilities are auto mapped into your hotbar, not to hotkeys, so remap your hotbar hotkeys and you remap the keybinds for your abilities. The mapping is shared with your single player game, so you need to make sure it makes sense in either context.

My key mapping with my dearly beloved Logitech MX518

Hotbar 1: Mouse wheel up
Hotbar 2: Mouse wheel down
Hotbar 3: First thumb button (back)
Hotbar 4: Button below mouse wheel
Hotbar 5: 1
Hotbar 6: 2
Hotbar 7: 3
Hotbar 8: 4 / Second button below mouse wheel
Melee: Button above mouse wheel
Reload: Second thumb button (forward)
Next/Prev Weapon: F1 and F2

I would use Q and E for abilities, but I leave those with their default bindings for single player. Also, there is (stupidly) only 8 hotbar slots, so potentially useful keys (like my G-keys on my G15 keyboard) go unused. More hotbar space please, Bioware!

Anyway, this puts all my multiplayer abilities (and in single player, my Shepard's abilities) on the mouse, and makes the multiplayer consumables (and single player squad abilities) more easily used without removing my fingers from the movement keys.

Krogans and Turians also don't roll/dodge. Asari teleport instead of rolling. Drell do a flip.

And yeah the heavy melee are all different. Humans is a punch. Turian is a backhand swipe with an omni-blade. Asari is an AOE biotic strike. Krogan is a shoulder-charge.

And yes the powers. Asari adept has stasis instead of singularity and throw instead of shockwave. Drell adepts have Reave, Pull, and Cluster grenade. And so on.

Very good variety in classes and races.

Quarians and Salarians do a little hop instead of rolling.

And as has been noted, different health and shield values, too. I found in the demo, a Krogan Soldier has nearly as much in either shields or health separately as a Drell Vanguard has in both combined.

Just got the Krogran Sentienal yesterday. The guy is a tank.

Remember, we're on 360 late tonight. Or I will be, bringin' the usual Gears of War Friday night language to the Mass Effect world.

Going back to multiplayer after doing a marathon of what feels like maybe 95% of the singleplayer is going to be hard.

In the SP I've got my Infiltrator setup so that I can two shot Brutes with the two most powerful of the sniper rifles, and three/four shot banshees if I manage headshots.

OP updated with the hints posted today. Keep 'em coming.

Just promoted one of my Soldiers, and it does indeed reset them all.

Thanks. Updated.

Just promoted one of my Soldiers, and it does indeed reset them all. Your levels are all class based, not tied to a particular character of that class.

Nice! I didn't realize you were collecting tips in the OP. I'll be sure to PM you if I notice any tips missing.

I agree that Recruit packs aren't a bad idea starting out. I'm still using Mantis snipers and Katana shotguns even though I've unlocked a couple less common types in both categories. You definitely want to swear them off eventually, but I think they're a good way to get some quick equipment at the beginning.

It's probably true that buying Vet only - or heck, Spectre only - from the start is the fastest way to unlock everything. Myself, I preferred going for quick acquisition and level-up of basic weapons and mods. Not getting the rarer classes is really the only big downside IMO.

Crinkle, do you have any idea how the promotion to War Asset works in SP? Did it ask you to pick a campaign to apply the char to? Or do you think it's going to benefit any campaign you play from here on out?

I'll be online on ps3 for the next 5ish hours if anybody wants to play, name in sig

No clue. I played single player for about an hour, got my first invite to MP, and haven't been back since

Oh any tricks to get the comms to work?

I use the default bind (tab) and secondary bind and it doesnt seem to activate my mic. I can hear folks just fine. Just cant talk.

The Phaeston is my new favorite gun. Was loving it in single player, but had it drop twice today in coop. I don't think I'll ever use another AR.

The Vindicator was my go-to before, but the burst-fire wasn't great if things got too close. And it didn't really put the hammer on the boss enemies in coop.

The Phaeston is a beast, with barely any recoil. Love, love, love it!

I got 2 AR in a row and i think one of them was this.

Best to make sure it works in the lobby first. There's a little mic logo by each player's name. If it's white, you're good. If it's red, your mic doesn't work.

You can enter options from the lobby and toggle your mic on/off and then go back to get it to reset, and that will sometimes fix a problem.

In the demo my mic would never work when I joined a game in progress. Don't think I've had to try that yet in the full game.

I did rebind the key, but it seems to work fine.

Heretk wasn't on my friends list and I couldn't hear him and I don't think he could hear me last night, so there might be some privacy settings to look at for that, too.

I looked and didn't see anything that would do that, but both he and I seemed to be able to hear tuffalo, but not each other.

Currently playing with pubbies. If anyone has an open slot, feel free to send me an invite.

Mark this day: I got my Widow. And it is sweet. Heavy as hell, equipped alone, it leaves you at +11% cooldown, but it's a beast. I'd like the Phalanx pistol for an Oh sh*t gun now.

So I played 2 games this evening on my PS3 just to get my Readiness up to the needed spot.

I can definitely see it being fun (got about 100K my second round with some pretty good players and beat Bronze).

Not sure how much i will stick with it since I don't have many people to play with on my PS3.

Will definitely put in some time though. Going to have to decide now whether to spend my points on a Veteran pack or hold out for a Spectre.

Just started playing the multi last night. Ended up playing for four hours. I guess it's pretty alright.

Sorry, MilkmanDanimal, but I was so engrossed in the story line that I didn't notice your Xbox party invite last night.

Haven't followed the thread closely so I apologize if this has been posted. I was just linked to this, so if you're playing pub - host the games, just in case. (it's about time we get rid of p2p in games)

Why don't they just remove all of the crap bought with the credits and zero his credits?

For something that can be forced upon you a straight up ban for first offense seems pretty bad.

Or do like DICE does for some of these that are less egregious, just reset the account to zero. Think MS does the same thing with achievements.

Of course, we're only hearing one side of what he did. If you go to the 360 forums for when accounts get banned and reset, everybody there was minding their own business, too.

Yeah you never know about stories like that.

The real test would be if the logs have a record of if you quick-joined the match or joined with friends.

If you quick-joined it's pretty obvious it wasn't your fault you get paired up with a hacker.
