Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Catch-All – Shepards with Jobs

Thanks, Blacksabre. I had fun too! I died a little more than I would have liked, but all in all a good time was had. I have to say, I love how my engineer destroys Geth. I do not like Reapers or Cerberus nearly as much. :-P

See I prefer Cerberus since they're easier to get head shots with. Plus, no Banhsees!

I'm going to try and get my soldier to level 20 before going back to my infiltrator again. I must admit, I miss Carnage. The frost power (can't remember what it's called) is good, but just lacks the effectiveness of Carnage. I also tried the Krogan soldier and don't think I was doing it right... although it was on Gold, so it could have just been the severe level difficulty change.

I must admit that I like the multiplayer for the fact that it allows you to play other classes that you normally wouldn't in the single player without the huge time investment. There is no way I'd play soldier in the singleplayer, but in multi, it's actually good fun. I want a few more Spectre Boxes so I can unlock some cool sniper rifle.

EDIT: Also managed to get my galaxy at war status to 100% Woo!

Finally I got a new class out of a Spectre pack.

But it was a Drell Vanguard. Not sure I see him being any better than the Human one. Maybe pull/charge for my own combos, but then what the hell do I do when I'm in there? Throw a grenade and pray?

Keep playing coop. You get a 5% xp bonus while you're already at 100.

Awesome... although I expect by the time I jump on tonight it will decrease to 98% or something. So first round I'll miss the XP bonus. It's funny, I didn't even touch single player last night, just multi. Now there is something I didn't expect when I pre-ordered.

Just what we need, another person casting Reave and starting up that sound bug

Vanguard class doesn't have Reave. Charge, Pull and Cluster Grenade.

Ah, well, bonus then.

Something is buggin with Origin. My friends list won't populate. Just have the spinning circle there.

Finally fixed my by using the "go offline" in settings. Then when I clicked to go back online, everyone popped up finally.

Tried that and it did not work. I can see the "store" just fine. But no friends list. First time I have had this issue.

I've had that issue lots. I've just restarted Origin until it fixes itself. The issue tends to pop up when you wake a computer that's been in sleep mode, and you are logged into Origin during that process.

That did it. Gotta love Origin.

...... you can just say you don't want to play with me.

I guess I settled the "Vanguards can't play on Silver" tonight. My team was like "well Stele is here killing everything, we're going over there." Sorry guys.

Heh, you were definitely killing the most things. Vanguards do a crazy amount of damage with nova, but when you died on the last wave, you were sandwiched between a bunch of stuff and it was impossible to rez you.

The other issue is just that it's really difficult to get a bead on enemies with a human vanguard around because everything is constantly warping around on the screen. I can't even tell you how many charge shotgun blasts I missed because you bounced my target 3 feet to the side right before I fired. I guess that doesn't really matter when everything is dead, but it can be a bit frustrating.

Of course, I say all of this as someone that enjoys playing a vanguard more than any other class. I think a team of 4 level 20 human vanguards on silver could be hilariously awesome. We should try that soon.

Yeah, I've had that. Being a sniper and having someone shake your screen every few seconds can be frustrating. Especially when you're trying to take out Guardians.

Eh the final wave death was just me near a turret, where it's impossible to rez without dying.

Yes!

Hm, doesn't look like there's any option for screen shake in the config tool. I do have motion blur turned off because that effect usually annoys me. Wonder if there's something in the config file...

It's missing "Instant Kill".

This does get a little rough at times. It's why I'm often not following the group so much as picking a solid spot and staying there or moving around the edges. Keeps me away from all the frustrating screen shaking.

Heh, that does sound pretty fun.

Does anyone else have the Special pack available? It's popped up for me, 20k for a bunch of the single use gear available for the next 4 days or so.

Just put in a session last night on Bronze. My Origin name is snwodwm. Is there a group, or do we just have to add folks as friends?

It's the latter. Just use the GoogleDoc from the OP and once you have a few of the more vocal people in this thread on your list, add friends from their profiles as well.

Last night, I played 3 rounds as an Infiltrator. Tactical cloak is so nice to line up those head shots. And revive teammates in the middle of a Banshee and a Brute. Not sure which option to take for Tactical Cloak tier 6 though. I am using a Sniper with extended ammo, but I plan on going Sticky Grenade next, so planting that in stealth may be beneficial. Also, with the Sticky Gren, skill it for pure damage or range as well?

The more I play, the more angry I start to get, typical of other team games (moba). We have 2 banshees, 2 brutes and a lot of marauders in and we have to hold a position for 4 minutes. No one uses their rockets. Wave 10. So we all die. Or they use all their first aids before wave 5 or something.

And I don't know what's wrong but Asari Adept feels pretty much useless (as most adepts) in silver.

Just had an awesome round last night, and though it was only on Bronze, still felt damn satisfying to win. We started the match with only 3 people, and as soon as it began, 1 person dropped. That left me (lvl 17 Human Vanguard) and one other pubbie (lvl 6 Vanguard). I was initially pissed and thought about dropping, but figured I would stay in the match until we died to get some XP and cash. I was running with just a SMG (Hornet, I think).

We handled the first 3 rounds pretty comfortably and I figured it would be over soon. Low and behold, we started clearing the waves and soon we were up to round 7. Pubbie had died a few times due to some overzealous use of Charge and Nova, but I was able to get him back on his feet each time. Things started to get pretty crazy when Phantoms started dropping in on us along with Engineers dropping turrets in the middle of the field. Whenever an Atlas showed up, we chose the rather pragmatic approach and simply blew it to pieces with a missile. All of a sudden we cleared wave 10 and both of us got extracted. I couldn't believe we had done it.

I know it was only Bronze difficulty, but it was still incredible to clear the whole map with only 2 people, one of who was level 6. Say what you want about Vanguards zipping around the place with Charge, but the ability to completely refill your shields each time you do it is a life saver. Many times I thought I was a goner while I hammered on the Y button, only to have Charge activate and get full shields back. As well Nova, Charge, Nova is a deadly combo that can ruin anyone's day (on Bronze).

I've only dabbled in Silver missions up to now, but I think it is time that I switch to that difficulty and stay there.

Now, my game with the Battlefield 3 soldier is another matter entirely............

I totally don't get the assumption that Vanguards are worthless on Silver. I took down Atlases on Silver with my human vanguard, despite being told here you couldn't do that.

Yes, it's high risk, but if you play it right it can work if you've got other decent players in your squad. And I'm not that great of a player.

I can't wait to build up another Vanguard after promoting mine. There might be stronger classes in higher levels, but it doesn't mean you can't have fun with Vanguard.

A common vanguard death. They never seem to notice the buggers.

To be fair turrets are a common cause of death full stop. The times I've wanted to shout, "I wouldn't go that way there's a ..." before a guy met his inevitable death. Fortunately, at the moment, I can turn invisible so I can rez people near turrets.

My Quarian Infiltrator is all about Sabotage, so I almost never kit her out with a sniper rifle at all, which made it an obvious choice to with the "fire one skill" tactical cloak evolution. I don't really find it all that terribly useful, though. I can throw grenades without decloaking and usually when I'm cloaked I'm either going after an objective, retreating to safer ground, or reviving someone. In other words, not using Sabotage. Therefore I might suggest you leave your tactical cloak at level 5 and spend your points elsewhere. On my Human Infiltrator I'm using the Viper, so the increased sniper rifle/headshot damage upgrades are pretty important if I ever want to get one-shot kills.

With the Sticky, I went pure damage until the level 6 evolution, which lets you turn it into a proximity mine with +50% range (for a total of 3 meters). That seems to be a good balance.

Speaking in the most general terms, not about anyone here, I just wish vanguards would be better team players. Most human vanguard players I see are less about the team and doing objectives when they pop up, than charge and nova spam. The class seems to attract people that want to go rambo while everyone else is siting in the hacking circle or deactivating devices.

The charge nova combo makes it easier for Vanguards to die from turrets.

"Oh look there is a assault trooper, HULK SMASH"
Charge, nova, no shields, turret takes old hulk out. Shields tend to give some room for mistake.

And then there's also the classic case where a Vanguard is already damaged with only the turret in sight, and has to make an instant decision between an immediate death, and a later one from the turret after charging it to get Barriers back.

Had some good rounds with Tuffalo and a couple pubbies last night. I was trying out my newly acquired Asari Vanguard. I died a LOT, but in the end we did manage to get an extraction. I'm probably doing something wrong, but the AV seems almost useless against armored opponents. It was still fun running around with just a pistol and Biotic Charging the hell out of most smaller opponents. I can see how trying that on silver will get her turned to paste quickly, though.

Time to hit some strategy guides!

Edit: Also, great timely inclusion of the Banshee graphic. Last night was my first meeting with one. Death followed quickly.
