Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Catch-All – Shepards with Jobs

What I like about the Arsenal and Reserves packs is that I can pick the kind of thing I want depending on where I feel lacking. Like my weapon selection was horrible until recently while I was pretty okay with the characters I'd unlocked, so I've been getting Arsenal packs to try and sort things out. It means I have to wait a few matches per pack if I'm playing on Silver, but so far it's been a worthwhile decision. I do wish it were a bit easier to unlock specific things though. I don't get a ton of play time, and progress is slow.

Funny you should mention that...

That still gives you more tries at the same old roulette wheel though, and the BioWare point cost for packs is really high--$20 gets you 6 Arsenal packs plus one Spectre pack. That represents a lot of play time I suppose, but compared to something like Tribes where you can purchase specific things it feels like kind of a rip-off. I'll admit that I did spend some spare points on an Arsenal pack or two a while back though. But I kind of feel like I should have just grabbed Leviathan or something instead. And I'm at the point now where I'm having enough fun with the few high level things I have unlocked that I don't mind progressing slowly anyway.

I'd really like the option of putting points towards specific things. Release a sniper pack or an assault weapon pack etc. So I can actually get a black widow after 100+ hours of playtime.

Yeah, I don't think Lobster was seriously suggesting spending real money on BioGambling. More razzing them for what seems to be a deliberately slow progression if you don't spend money.

Stele, I'm not allowed to message you back if you message me while pretending to be off-line on Steam. :p

BioGambling is what I like to call orgies.

So Geth Trooper Soldier is pretty fun. He's tough enough to take some serious punishment and that flamethrower absolutely melts armored enemies. I've been tweaking my loadout with him because my cooldown was actually too high. I felt like I was sacrificing more firepower than I needed to. Now I'm packing a Harrier and a Geth SMG, with a cool-down of just under +90%. Feels about right. I took the first three levels of Hunter Vision instead of the final weapon damage/weight evolution and haven't regretted it so far. I wish I could flick it on and off more quickly but it's come in handy from time to time.

That Geth Infiltrator with all Proxy Mine and no Hunter Mode works just fine on Gold, I found last night; you just need a Shield Boost. With the Two Powers evo of Cloak, you can Cloak->Proxy Mine->Piranha just about anything. It even tears apart Praetorians on Gold in just a few passes of that sequence.

Finally got the Volus Engineer last night. Fun but very different.

No cover is so weird to get used to, and no melee is even stranger. But that short cloak is really helpful sometimes and the shield and recon powers are both fantastic.

The inability to jump over stuff is a huge problem on some maps, and can get you cornered unexpectedly. But still, recon mine.

I abandoned the Prox Mine in the beta. Do you need to lead with it very much?

I didn't put a single point into it on my Volus.

That's how my salarian infiltrator rolls too, but I'm intrigued by Glanton's hunter strategy, especially since I've started grinding through challenges again, so I'm going to hit that geth eventually.

I like 5 points in prox mine, since it causes extra damage from all other sources. Really helpful taking down the boss enemies.

The only characters I try to hit with it directly, usually, are bosses. Primes, Atlases, Praetorians are all large enough for it not to matter. My experience is that if your reticule turns red, you're good. What might make it hard is that when you're within range for the Piranha, you might be getting bounced around too much to hit with it accurately. With humanoid enemies I usually try to shoot their feet with it.

I tried out Glanton's suggestion of trying out a Vorcha on Geth/Giant/Bronze just to get some grabs, and lord, does it work well. Max out Bloodlust for survivability, do a solo run. I got 61 grabs the first time I tried it. Once your health regen starts going along, basic troops cannot hurt you fast enough to keep your health bar down below full. Added bonus is you appear to have some invincibility frames during the Vorcha's over-the-top grab animation, so you're regenning health and invulnerable for a second while doing grabs.

I used a Stronghold Package V (shields/shield regen). Whenever I saw a Bomber, Pyro or Prime, I ran away and killed them from a distance, then back to the room upstairs for slash-slash-slash grabs. Worked great.

Ugh. Why doesn't this game award credits as the waves happen again?

Just finished the objective on wave 10 silver and then sometime during the cleanup I get "connection lost with host".

20 minutes and 30k credits that I earned gone, just like that.

I need grabs myself. What room is this, the control room on the right side?

The highest point on the map. Two counters to manipulate for grabs, too.

You guys are making me want to pick this up again. Had a lot of fun with it last year but my gold membership is expired.

Do it do it do it do it.

Cool, when I decide it's hunter time, I'll give that a shot.

I got 200 waves with the asari infiltrator. I got to really enjoy it after a bit. Against reapers, it's beastly--I could kill a ravager with one explosion, then walking away and letting Dark Channel take care of the rest. Against geth...I'd switch classes, too many shields. Also, apparently the Acolyte was bugged, and now they've made it fire after a change again. They should change it back, the Acolyte was vital, and it doesn't seem to need the balance of a charge shot.

I played as my favourite class again last night. Salarian Infiltrator with the Mantis X. It was surprisingly brutal. Did a silver run and ended up doubling the second guys score and third and fourth were just as bad. Cloak -> Headshot -> Energy Drain -> Reload. Was dropping banshees really fast and Geth Primes were super easy. I'm thinking I might try a solo silver run with him.

Also, for those guys who like the Recon Mine from the volus engi, but not the height hurdle, use the Drell Assassin. I think he's just as good as the Salarian Infiltrator. That Recon Mine is devastating.

From the Video Game Deals thread, Tiger Direct has one-year XBox Live cards for $32.99, plus $1.99 shipping.

READY ENABLING CANNON AND . . . FIRE!!!

Apparently Robin Sachs, VA for Zaeed among other things, has died. Someone on the Bioware forum suggested changing MP armor to Zaeed's yellow-white-brown by way of tribute.

If only I could get classes unlocked...

In my experience, every grab gives you invincibility for pretty much the whole duration of you being out of control. If your teammates need a few seconds to shoot things off your back, finding someone to grab can be the difference between going down and staying up.

I probably should make more of an effort to go for the grabs. I maybe get one every 5 or so matches. It's just not something I typically do.

On an unrelated note, the Asari Vanguard Lift Grenade is amazing. That's probably one of the greatest ever powers!

Drell Assassin is one of my go-to classes that's useful no matter what everyone else plays. I play Volus when I still want to be useful but want to have a bit of a laugh while I'm at it.

You know how long it takes for it to check that after every round, and whenever you go into the store? Want it doing that several times each round, for every player?

That's too bad. That guy had a great voice for being a big god-damned hero.

It could really upload progress asynchronously at the end of each round. Then they could give a bonus for playing the final round to keep people from quitting early. I don't know why the store is so slow now. There's no technical reason why it should be, generally speaking. EA should have the expertise needed to sort things out.

I'm curious to see how much changes with the DLC. They've clearly proven that multi can be profitable at this point. With luck they'll spend some of that money on simply streamlining the experience. I'd like to see better integration with social.bioware.com as well.

I am really really really really ready for a DLC announcement tomorrow.
