Weekend events return with Operation Genesis

Event Description: Casualties and battle fatigue have worn down some of our best units. We are cycling out soldiers whose tours of duty have been hyperextended and substituting fresh troops from human colonies. Experienced commanders are expected to stay on duty, maintain unit cohesion, and hold new recruits to N7 standards.

Individual Goal: Extract twice, once as a base male human and once as a base female human (Adept, Engineer, Infiltrator, Sentinel, Soldier, or Vanguard classes) on any map at any difficulty.

So, base human, so that means no cerberus?

I took it to mean that you have to use the two characters on the far left of each class.

Yup, unlocked it today and got the SMG. Which is now level 5. Would have preferred the Valiant, but it's free so I won't complain. On the plus side, the adept Male human is actually pretty decent. In fact all the base human classes are pretty decent.

I tried bronze against reapers last night too. Got to level 10 when i had to defuse 4 of those reaper devices. The second one became locked down and i got trapped. Next thing you know a brute sync killed me.

EDIT: And did my first bronze solo. Tried geth on Firebase white with the Kro-Vanguard and Reager Carbine. Wow. Reager Carbine is nice. Real nice. And I only have level 1. I want level 10!!!

Yeah, Love the Reeger. I've got a very delicate Drell Vanguard that can do a helluva lot of damage with the Reeger, Biotic Charging around the map to hit key personnel, but he just can't soak up the damage the way the Krogan can.

I get really excited when I get upgrades for my go-to weapons, like the Mattock or Carnifex. Maybe I'm sad.

It's good that I love the Valiant, because I get it every time. Valiant IX.

Valiant is sweet! After a good run of Hurricanes last year, I am stuck in Eagle-town.

Not that I don't love a pistol that thinks it's an SMG, but yeah.

Eagle for me, too. The challenge was a good excuse to try new setups on Infiltrators--the Claymore isn't exactly my style, but it's damn effective.

Has everyone noticed they added two new packs in the store, both PSPs, but one allegedly offers a higher chance for characters, the other for weapons? Ironically, I've had a character in all but one weapon pack I've snagged.

yup, eagle here as well.

Valkyrie here. I wasn't particularly overwhelmed.

But I did get the Human Cerberus Vanguard/Dragoon fella. Lash is pretty fun and when a Smash works... Fun times.

Aaaaaand finally got Nova. This is gonna be fun. Biotic Charge + Nova is the most satisfying thing in ME. My recharge is still slow, but I'll remedy that soon.

Isn't nova one of the skills for the base human vanguard that everyone starts with? If you're only just unlocking it now, something may have gone horribly wrong.

It was actually there but locked initially. I think I dumped 20 points or so in stuff before it unlocked. Things are pretty tough in spots on insanity. I got to the part where you get Garus and it was really tough to get those 2 brutes that come at you. The brutes aren't bad, it's taking out those other guys shooting at you that's the problem. Managed to isolate the brutes and finally completed it.

Edit: Ha! I see that I posted in the multi thread. This was in single player.

Okay, the SP context makes 100% more sense.

I'm hooked again. I pretty much just played this all weekend. The servers were nice and fast and everything was just a fun experience. Trying to decide if I want the 99K gun or 99k character kits more. I've been going for guns mostly, but I want the geth soldier with the flamer!

Considering a lot of people thought this was going to be a tacked on multi-player experience to a largely single-player game, this has had some serious longevity! I'm pretty impressed, I hope Bioware consider doing some more multi-player stuff in the future.

I suspect Bioware has made a huge, steaming pile of money out of this, and I can't imagine them not doing another multiplayer game set in the ME3 universe. What I want is some kind of Left4Dead-ish versus mode, where you can be a Phantom, Brute, whatever. I always enjoyed that mode, and think it would work really well again.

Ok, question time. I had a gold match where we had a round of the pickup the item and drop it off at the base. This one guy who was a krogan vanguard was running with it. He was doing some fancy, run, drop, run, drop, run, drop, run thing so he was either spamming the space bar or something, but is there some kind of trick, because I tried it and couldn't replicate it. He was pretty damn awesome though. Totally eclipsed us all in points.

Well I played a few games and got the Hurricane II for my troubles. I am not really a fan of the SMG's though. Also did my first solo bronze run also using the Krogan Vanguard Pain Train from the pervious page. Even at only level 16 it was pretty easy. The final objective was hacking in the extraction area and that was the hardest part.

So I am not really sure what packs I should be buying now. Any suggestions?

Rykin: I'd go for the 99k packs from now out. Looks like you're a little light on characters, maybe concentrate on that pack?

I've seen players doing that too. I don't know the trick though.

Running with the "pizza" (package): Yeah, you spam the run key/button so that you're constantly dropping it and picking it back up as you run. The exact rhythm seems to depend on your connection to the host. In my experience, it's usually most easy to do (or at least has the most timing tolerance) as host. Always hard for me to do, though - the spam required is right at limit of my stretched-out-from-WASD thumb's endurance.

Rykin: I notice you're light on both Uncommon Weapon Mods and Uncommon Gear. I'd go for Veteran packs right now, personally. That's with a long-term view of wanting everything below Ultra Rare eventually maxed, though.

Ah, so that's how you do it. Might have to practice that.

Also, if you max out the uncommon, if you buy another vet pack, does it start giving rare stuff? So you could get stuff that usually only appears in spec packs for less?

Been soloing a lot, to get the challenges done, and I while I'm playing Bronze, I have to say, my dread and fear of Phantoms has diminished. Not completely, they're still the enemy I hate most out of all of them, but I feel I can take them now with normal weapons and powers. I used to rocket launcher them before...with or without teammates. So that's a plus. Still though, Cerberus is the race I still hate the most. Even Reapers and Collectors that also have insta-kill moves, I absolutely despise Cerberus. They're just not fun to fight against. Guardians ruin rhythm. Smoke bombs ruin EVERYTHING. And don't even get me started on Phantoms and Engineer Turrets.

Can't say I love the Krysae Sniper Rifle, but I don't hate it either. Works nicely with incendiary ammo, and I like the fact that I can shoot a wall nearby and hit the enemy. I just fear it won't be effective outside of Bronze. We'll see.

I unlocked that one last night and I was really looking forward to using it, right up until I used it. On Bronze. It sucked. I'd rather use my Valiant.

Ah, so that's what you were doing, Kloreep. I thought you were having a seizure.

Personally I have no interest in learning to do that. It makes a loud, weird sound for everyone else and doesn't seem to actually provide much of a benefit. I think of it a little like bunny hopping or dolphin diving from Battlefield: even if it works, it looks so goofy and broken as to be obnoxious.

I think it just starts giving you consumables and common classes. Otherwise, why not take it a step further and buy nothing but recruit packs?

The Valiant's not really a fair basis of comparison, as it's one of the best guns in the game. The Krysae sucks if you think of it as a sniper rifle. Think of it as a grenade launcher that sits in a sniper rifle slot. I always used it as more of a close-range shotgun of doom than sniper rifle. It's actually loads of fun, and back before they nerfed it the things was simply ludicrously overpowered.

Yeah, that´s how I use it. As a grenade launcher. Hell, it´s a better grenade launcher than those 2 Assault Rifles that suck. I forget their names. Falcon is one I think. They absolutely blow. You want a grenade launcher? Krysae is the way to go. Add it with incendiary ammo, and and in bronze its a one hit kill on many targets.

The Striker (Stryker?) is the other AR that works like a grenade launcher. It isn't all that effective, but I do find it fun to use. It's the AR a Krogan would make.

I have recently discovered that the game most likely isn't tracking my stats for Map Mastery. That's probably a good sign for me to take some weeks off from it.

Hmm, maybe that's it. Still, I wanted a sniper rifle. I was using the widow a bit last night. Once you get the timing down, it's quite a decent sniper rifle. I think the Mantis X might be better than a Widow II though, so I should probably use that.

Wow. Ok. I'm trying to complete the Biotic Challenge at the same time as the Sniper Rifle Challenge. Let me tell you, that's a HUGE mistake. Human Adepts are sh*t. I already have Warp done, so the only arsenal I have is Singularity and Shockwave. Both are sh*t. Singularity I assume is better with a squad, but Shockwave, jesus christ it's just god awful.

For sniper rifles, obviously all of the good ones I have completed, and the remaining ones I do have, man alive do they absolutely blow. Krysae isn't that bad, but if the only you have is Krysae, Singularity and Shockwave, you won't last alive long. Then, sh*t, I don't even know where to begin. Incisor, Collector Sniper Rifle, Kishock Harpoon, Raptor. I couldn't give these weapons more than 2 waves on Bronze. They absolutely blow. Aren't these guns, all guns, supposed to be in some capacity, simply sidegrades? For the life of me I can't believe any sane person would choose these guns over Valiant, Black Widow, Widow, Mantis, or Viper. I can't. They suck balls.

Don't have Javelin or Indra, so I can't comment on those, but holy crap.

The Javelin is great. It does slightly less damage than a Black Widow and doesn't pack a lot of ammo, but has both innate penetration and enhance scope features. Also, it fires a little differently, so you sort of have to learn it, but it's a fun gun once you do. Which...uh...I'm sure is cold comfort, because you're right--the Incisor is out of control, the Raptor and CSR hit like squirt guns, and the Kishock might as well be a log. Good luck, hope for a Jav.

Mantis X is probably better than Widow II, but the Widow is so cool I'd still use it.

It's all about the noise the gun makes. And that means the Widow.
