Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Catch-All – Shepards with Jobs

I don't think I have a good enough picture of the whole arsenal to tell you the best weapons, but my favorites lately are:
-SMGs: Hurricane. Or if you don't have it leveled much, the Hornet is also good. Both SMGs need some stabilization from somewhere though.
-Assault Rifles: Mattock. Its semi-auto will kill your finger, but it really is damn good. Edit: And yes, Harrier of course! Saber as well.
-Shotguns: Reegar Carbine, Claymore, Geth Plasma, and Piranha all have their uses.
-Sniper: Mantis, Widow, and Javelin are kings of the one-shot sniper rifle advancing in that order. I haven't ventured into multi-shot-clip territory much.
-Pistols: Carnifex and Paladin - though if you want to be weapon focused pistols simply aren't the way to go IMO.

Mind you, I'm talking about highest power. There are some good "casting class" guns like the Avenger, Geth Pulse Rifle, etc. that are good for their weight.

OK, I know I've unlocked at least one challenge banner thingie from the Halloween deal but I can't seem to find where I actually set that. How do I customize my name... plate... dealie?

In-game: go to Challenges, click on the challenge you want the banner for and there should be a Set Title button.

There's also a way to do it from N7 HQ on the web but I can't remember it at the moment.

Ok, good to know. So this weekend challenge thingie... 75K points with engi... easy? I may try today and see if I can get it. Still can't get over how awesome that Harrier is though. So what is the best weapon at the moment? I still haven't got a widow or Black Widow yet either.

Pretty damn easy.

The best weapon really is a matter of situation, what you have, and what you're playing, and how you are with them. The Cpt and Korleep like the Hurricane, but I hate the recoil on it. I don't have a Harrier yet, so the Typhoon is my big gun AR.

I've been using the Talon on fragile classes that need good cooldown, and are likely to find themselves very close to baddies, like the Slayer and Shadow. And the oft dismissed Disciple was working out much better on my hyper-aggressive Justicar.

Also, you say Mantis is top dog? I just went back to it to do that challenge, and found it slightly more effective than the Power of Love.

Well that was a fun weekend. I may actually keep playing a bit longer. I unlocked the weekend challenge and the reward was there right away. None of this wait till Wednesday to unlock thing. Really cool. It unlocked the N7 Hurricane II. I also got a N7 Typhoon I and M-11 Wraith I in the one premium spectre pack, so was happy with that.

Thanks for the tips on the guns, everyone. Really liking the Cerberus Harrier so far. Haven't unlocked any of the new classes yet such as the vorcha or N7 guys, but yeah, it's a lot of fun and nice to see some really cool new maps. There's earth and some other places and it's just like a whole new game.

This is my N7 Profile page listing all my weapons if anyone is interested. Curious to see others too so share em if you got em!

EDIT: Wow! I just looked at your page Kloreep. Far out. X in pretty much everything. Sheeeeeeeet!

Just unlocked the M-90 Indra... is it any good?

Also, what's the best strategy for unlocking stuff? Should I stick to saving up to 99000 each time to buy a Premium Spectre Pack, or just but the 20K packs?

The Indra is quite awesome. I go for PSPs, as most of the weapons you will want will be in those.

Are you on PC or 360?

I'm on PC. Ok, so stick with the 99K packs then. Is there a list of how much credits you get based on Broze, Silver, Gold and Platinum? I've only just seen the new platinum difficulty too... I'm assuming it's tough.

BlackSabre wrote:

I'd say Yes, on an Engineer or a Sentinel, or whatever class you'd like to give some range, but needs something light-ish.

Lord, I wish I knew. I have little luck with either.

In general, I would say PSPs are the way to go. I've seen a BSN thread where someone collected all their PSP and SP results for something like 100 packs, and based on that it sounds like your odds (per credit spent) for Ultra Rares are identical between the two. But at least you'll certainly get more Rares (and unlocks in general) with the PSP - the SP gives you more consumables.

In the short term, getting some more uncommons from 20k Vet packs could help you out quite a bit, though, especially via Gear and Weapon Mods. So, what game are you playing? The short one where you see immediate gain, or the long one where you actually expect to care about Ultra Rares?

I think it's something like ~15k for Bronze, ~30k Silver, ~70k Gold, and ~120k Platinum - full runs through wave 10, except not including extraction bonus.

If you're aiming for credits, I think Gold is, at least eventually, where it's at. Only if you can win Gold matches fast enough to make the extra credits worth it, though - if not, Silver's good too. Just stay away from Bronze (pitiful credits for your time) and Platinum (even if you're good enough to win - I'm not!!! - the extra time it takes to play Platinum cancels out the extra credits).

I'm not entirely sure yet. I've put 61H in to multiplayer and probably 3 hours of that is from recent play after my 3 or so month break. I got bored before with the constant slot machine like mechanic of the game. So it may come back really fast again, or it may have changed enough that I'll stick with it for a while longer. So far my luck with the PSP has been good. I think. I'm getting some Ultra Rares so I guess that's good. No new classes yet, but I've only bought 3 PSP's.

My favourite class is the Infiltrator and I'd really like some decent sniper rifles like a Black Widow or Krysae Sniper Rifle. But using the Cerberus Harrier has been fun with my Engineer and Soldier. I've been sticking with Bronze while I warm back up again, so maybe I should switch back to gold and see if I can get some credits a bit faster. The only problem is my timezone screws me over from playing with you guys so I'm stuck with pubs or that insanely bad lag which makes you jump between two different points constantly.

EDIT: Bumped it up to silver and now making 34K every 20 mins or so. Not bad I guess. Will see what gold is like later. I remember it being hard and the only time I ever pulled it off was when I had my friend playing.

I also unlocked the Collector Sniper rifle.... anyone got any tips with it? Still no new classes either...

The game is harder than it used to be, so Silver now is like Gold used to be. The Dragoon and Bomber have made Cerberus and the Geth far more pesky, and the Collectors @#$!! suck in every way; Reapers went from being the hardest to the easiest. So, Gold is now a massive pain.

Really? Silver doesn't seem that hard. Maybe Turian Soldier with Cerberus Harrier is easy mode?

Also those new Cerberus Dragoons seem pretty weak. The Atlas is my biggest problem at the moment as the Harrier just doesn't seem to work that well against it. Wish there was some kind of weapon stats to see the damage vs armour and shields etc for each weapon.

Geth still don't have a sync kill so they're still my go-to. I really don't know why sync kills are still in the game. They aren't fun. BioWare is aware that people don't like them (there was a joke about them in the single-player DLC). So what gives?

Depending on your build the dragoon's can either be very hard or very easy. Anything specced for anti-armor can cut through them pretty quickly.

I think the biggest issue with the sync kills was that due to lag and glitches, they would happen for inexplicable reasons. The ME3 multiplayer fourms were full of rage against a banshee somehow grabbing people from far away ("magnet hands") and they would just have to watch as they were slowly pulled in from far away and skewered.

I don't mind the sync kills myself; adds an element of tension and "Oh sh*t" moments to the game when you see a pair of banshees teleporting towards you while you are dealing with a brute. I think if they got rid of them some factions would be nerfed a little too much. Banshees would lose much of their threat; since you can cancel out the DoT effects they put on you by hitting a shield boost, adrenaline rush, or anything that gives you a quick shot of health. The Paladin's shield can even block the shot with no damage taken. If there wasn't the risk of sync kills I think Phantoms would get man handled, especially by Krogan.

I've been a bit of bender with the game lately, but I starting to lose some interest in it again. I'm having really odd luck with the store, and feel like I am being trolled by it which is taking some of the fun out of it. To date, I still have not unlocked the Destroyer (really want that character), Shadow, Demolisher, Harrier, or Typhoon; yet I have gotten the Volus Adept twice, and the Volus Engineer 3 times in the past two weeks. I'll probably give this a break for a bit while I dig into the new Borderlands 2 content and Halo 4's Spartan Ops, but I am a bit worried that by the time I come back the player base will have dwindled even further.

On a side note: the human engineers are great classes to play, and very viable on Gold. I tried one out of the weekend for the operation and was surprised at how well I was doing with it. The combat drone is fast to cast, low cool down, and provides great fire support but don't rely on it to be your main source of damage though. The human engineers can also setup and detonate their own tech bursts and fire explosions. Just keep cycling through Incinerate and Overload, and you can chew through any enemy unit on the field. I was quite surprised by how versatile the character class was.

Don't use it as a primary. It's one of those low damage full auto sniper rifles, but it's also one of the clipless Collector weapons, that recharges after a lengthy animation that you can't cheat like the others. But, it also doesn't seem to have any recoil.

Plus it looks like you could cook it and eat it in an emergency.

Turians with the Harrier are definitely easy mode. I looked at the unlocks you posted, and that's definitely your go-to for now.

The Harrier will make short work of an Atlas. Aim for the canopy or that fuel tank thing on its back. Using an armor piercing mod works well too.

Incomplete list of most powerful kits:
Turian Infiltrator with Harrier or Typhoon
N7 Fury with good pistol (Paladin, most likely)
Phoenix Adept with Indra (underused, but a personal favorite)
Krogan Vanguard with Piranha
Paladin spec'ed to use tech explosions
Volus played as support class
Geth Infiltrator with ... lots of guns, but Geth Plasma Shotgun is always a classic (although the last time I used it, it seemed to have been nerfed)

I dunno man, I still like to run my Krogan Vanguard light. I think the more frequent charges are more important than weapon damage.

The Piranha X is a pretty light gun. I use it on my Slayer and Shadow sometimes.

Well I don't even have a Piranha I so I dunno.

So do you think there is any chance that they'll let you use credits to actually buy what you want? Like A Black Widow could be 99K. I'd be happy with that.

5K for a common, 20K for uncommon, 60K for Rare and 99K for Ultra Rare. Would certainly mean you could get what you want a lot faster.

Also, thanks for the info. I'll probably stick with the turian and the Harrier then. Until I get my Black Widow!

The trick with the ammo-less weapons is to not shoot the entire clip. As long as there's something left in the clip, it will recharge so long as you don't fire it, and do so much faster than if you have to do the reload animation.

BlackSabre wrote:

Considering they seem to be against even letting you spend real money to get what you want, I doubt credits are about to go towards anything besides randomness.

Speaking of which, there's a new appearance pack in the store. Comes with Ajax Armor for Commander Shepard. Anyone know if that's a single-piece set or if you can mix and match?

Looks like it's a set:

An ugly-ass set at that. Pass. My Shepard looks awesome already anyway.

Yeah I don't really ever shoot things on my Krogan Vanguard.

Well I did a run against Geth yesterday and never used a gun. Since the primes have no insta-kill, I just charge, strong melee, charge, etc until dead. So fun.

Straight-up trades with other players would be cool. For example, I have a Black Widow VIII that I never, ever use. Would be willing to trade the whole shebang for all of your Harrier levels...

Interesting idea. Not sure I'd give up my harrier though as it's pretty damn sweet.

I also unlocked the Turian Ghost last night which means even more use of the Harrier. Anyone got any decent builds for the Turian Ghost?

Yeah I think we got it after a couple rounds of Geth. Not too tough.
