I'm tempted to go for it, should we make babeh.

While that is a very cool pic, it's also huge. Maybe upload a smaller version?

The story of this shirt is chronicled here.

We got a lot of hand-me-down stuff from the wife's cousins. Including a lot of pink. Seeing as we're very Right On like that and seeing as how they were the only ones that fit, he spent a month or two out and about with a pair of pastel pink mittens.

This was the conversation that invariably ensued:

"Ooh what a lovely little girl"

"He's a boy actually"

"But... But... He's wearing pink!"

"Yeah, I know. We're raising him gay cos I hear they get more rights"

We had it the other way around. Long hair, mostly pinks and white from head to toe, and a pale blue dummy in her mouth. What a cute boy...

I remember that first sonogram, it was amazing to see a living being inside my wife. Just amazing.

A couple of months ago, I found out that I'm going to be a father by November.

On Monday last week, we went in for our first sonogram, and with the soundtrack of 2001: A Space Odyssey playing in my head, I watched my offspring suck at his barely developed fist, whereupon s/he proceeded to -- wait for it -- moon us. If I didn't know better, I'd swear it was deliberate.

Oh well. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Don't I know it. My boy's hobbies include farting, boobs, eating, sleeping, and shouting at or hitting things he doesn't like.

9 weeks old and he has began his training, he'll be swashbuckling in no time!

My wife and I had our first appointment and the ultrasound confirmed that a mini 93 has spawned! We're 8 weeks in and everything looks good. It was amazing to see the little kidney bean in there with his tiny heart flickering. I have always been firmly in the 'dont want kids' mindset but something changed over the past year or two and Im beyond excited to have one.

On a side note, i picked up a few books from Amazon that are written for dads and they're hilarious (and informative). I highly recommend them to any expecting Goodjers! The first two are written like actual manuals, which is great for logical, methodical thinkers. The second is my favorite of the bunch - read the whole thing in one sitting and it was fantastic.

The Pregnancy Instruction Manual: Essential Information, Troubleshooting Tips, and Advice for Parents-to-Be

The Baby Owner's Manual (Owner's and Instruction Manual)

Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads (Paperback)

If anyone needs a copy of those first 2 and is prepared to send me an SASE I'll send them over. I'm done with mine.

I've looked at the Baby Owner's Manual book, and have been meaning to pick it up (thought it might not be cheaper to send a SASE to the UK!). The two I've been reading and would highly recommend are:

The Expectant Father: Facts, Tips and Advice for Dads-to-Be

Show Dad How: The Brand-New Dad's Guide to Baby's First Year: this one also has the "manual" feel, it's all diagrams and illustrations, and as useful and informative as it is hilarious.

(A book I'd steer anyone away from is The Caveman's Pregnancy Companion. There's nothing in there you can't get from The Expectant Father (or another quality dad-to-be book), except this one is written assuming the dad-to-be doesn't have a clue, has no interest in the pregnancy or supporting his wife, and needs to be convinced otherwise since he's only concerned with golf, poker, and his buddies. Plus it's grossly cavalier with hominin terminology, so it was basically a double slap in the face for me.)

Wife got pregnant last July. In November we had a sonogram done in the US to determine its gender (they don't like doing that in China, even for non-Chinese), and the little naughty guy not only mooned us, but decided to pee on camera. Nothing like seeing a stream of urine to make the "it's a boy" moment all the more memorable.

He was born two days ago.

Did you and mom do a very quite dance? That is what we did on the first time.

Congrats Mao!

thanks all, we're pretty excited. Just brought him home a few minutes ago, looking forward to posting many more meme-worthy photos in the future.

Oh God don't clap you might wake him

Aww, congratulations Mao!

That's an awesome picture, Mao. It's like a preview of the teen years. Congratulations to you, and to your wife.

Tell me that you have a 5 year plan to get him into kindergarten.

(bad jokes aside, grats)

I agree, I hope it was a quite clap. We have to try and be quiet after he has fallen asleep. If he wakes he will fall asleep on his own but will often cry for 30min up to an hour before he falls back to sleep. We are learning where all the creaky spots are in the house.

Edit: fixed for letting my mind get out of order... Thanks Wordy, I am always open to correction.

Bah, don't give in to the "must be quiet" scene... you'll only end up with years of "must be quiet" instead of only a few months of it.

...Says the guy whose son slept like a rock since he was born... (ymmv). Sometimes I would poke him, just to make sure he was still alive. He must get it from me.
