Now I do love Neil DeGrasse Tyson

More Carl Sagan influence!

Just got back from his lecture at a local college. It was a lightweight talk on current events in astrophysics, covering things like "Pluto (it's not a planet): get over it", Exoplanets, The Earth is Out To Kill You, and Mars Colonization. He's a tremendously fun speaker. Unfortunately, we had to cut out before the Q&A portion so we didn't push the kids' bedtime out too late.

You left a NDGT talk early? For sleep?

Not sure you did your kids any favor there.

She may have just done the rest of the audience a favor, though. Unless NDT knew some lullabies.

They're a bit old for lullabies, but my youngest (11) had just about reached her limit at the end of the lecture proper. And she's got a math test and a presentation on black holes and a dance class tomorrow, all of which would suffer from a late night.

She should have asked NDT for help on the presentation!

That's what I told her -- but she's a bit shy to get up and ask a question in front of everyone.

While he did mention all his books (some of which were for sale in the lobby), he also mentioned a lecture series available on Great Courses. But I found today that it's also currently available for streaming on Netflix.

Everything we now know about the universe—from the behavior of quarks to the birth of entire galaxies—has stemmed from scientists who’ve been willing to ponder the unanswerable. And with the advent of modern science, great minds have turned to testing and experimentation rather than mere thought as a way of approaching and grappling with some of the universe’s most pressing and vexing dilemmas.
So what is our latest picture of some of the most inexplicable features of the universe? What still remains to be uncovered? What are some of the next avenues of exploration for today’s chemists, physicists, biologists, and astronomers?

So if you're looking for a NdGT fix, it's probably worth a shot.

I just watched those. They're quite good. Six episodes and each is maybe 35 minutes long so not a huge time commitment.

This might be relevant to someone's interests. 70% off for a limited time (I can't find the expiration date).

Thought this might belong here

Neil deGrasse Tyson explains how wealthy is Microsoft founder Bill Gates. An excerpt from University of Washington in 2011.

Fox News guest says white liberal nerds love Neil deGrasse Tyson so much “he could defecate on them”

“I hate this guy,” [ousted Vice cofounder Gavin] McInnes exclaimed. “I remember hearing Chris Hardwick on a podcast talk about Neil deGrasse Tyson and he was just salivating. White liberal nerds love this guy so much, he could defecate on them like Martin Bashir’s fantasies and they would dance in the streets.”

And it only gets more disgusting from there.

How special.

I like Chris Hardwick an awful lot, though.

Two astrophysicists, one cup?

White people love Neil deGrasse Tyson because he makes Wayne Brady look like Bryant Gumbel.

You get to be the last segment of the centipede.

So this is a NDT catch-all, right?

Wait till the end...

<3 Weird Al

Exactly. NDT was a bad ass, but Weird Al!

I liked that one a good deal.

It pains me that I'm working until 10 tonight and won't be able to watch it until I get home.

I'm not even really a fan of their rap battles, but I saw Al and could not resist.

+1

This is the first rap battle video I've watched, and will likely be my last.

The match ups don't always make sense to me. I really liked the one above and Einstein vs Hawking, and Picasso vs Bob Ross.

Also another +1 for Chuck Nice. Not sure how you feel about Joe Rogan but Neil was on his podcast debunking some of his conspiracy ideas.

I want that on a t-shirt. With three wolves.

My wife got me a ticket to see NDGT in Foxwoods this January! I'm so damn excited. Best early Christmas present ever!
