The Goodjer American Beer Exchange

I thought I paired you with a Wisconsinite but I must have switched it when I did some other shuffling.

Thanks for doing this Norfair. Hopefully this can become an annual thing or even quarterly depending on the budgets of some folks.

I don't know where FSeven is from, but I'll start compiling beers post haste!

I'm from New Jersey, just outside NYC.

I got a basic idea of what you like from the thread: you have a soft spot for stouts and porters. Here's a little of what I can offer:

Access to Flying Fish Brewery. Check out their site to see what they have. Their "Exit" series, named after exits on the New Jersey Turnpike which runs the length of the state from bottom to top and splits it in half basically. These are limited release beers made to represent the diversity of the state. Currently I believe Exit 4 is available, an American Trippel that won 2011's Washington Post 'Beer Madness' Chanpionshiop. Also just released is Exit 8, a Chestnut Brown Ale. You can look through the rest of their site to see what else they offer. Their Grand Cru Winter Reserve is one of the best winter/spice beers I've ever had.

Cricket Hill is also local. Check their site out. They recently had a Bourbon Barrell event. Not sure if any of that stuff is left but I can check.

I also have access to Brooklyn Brewery beers, Ommegang, Troegs, Southern Tier, Mikkeler, Otter Creek, Innis & Gunn, Rochefort, Victory, Dogfish, and plenty of others; my craft beer store of choice has a crazy big selection. I can even hit up the local taphouse which is now offering growlers of things they have on tap such as Dogfish 90-min. (yummy!).

As for me, I would love some of the rarer of New Glarus' offerings. Dancing Man Wheat I've never tried. Spotting Cow, Blacktop, Chocolate Abbey, Belgian Red, etc. Also I'm curious about Central Waters - Peruvian Morning, Barrel Aged Barleywine, Double Bubble Double IPA, Bourbon Barrel Stout, etc. Wouldn't mind trying one of your homebrews too.

I guess we need to come up with a price point? I can go up to $50 before shipping if you want to maximize this, otherwise we can go with $20-$30, get a good variety and then perhaps if we both taste something we really like, can even setup a regular exchange between the two of us.

Very excited!

Sounds great! You are correct, stouts, porters, brown ales... anything on the dark side gets me going, though I love beer from all ends of the spectrum. Exit 13 has me intrigued. That Grand Cru also sounds fantastic, please include it! Three Philosphers from Ommegang sounds good, too. Unless you have one that transcends all other attempts I'm not too keen on fruit beers. Feel free to make your best judgment, I love pretty much everything. Part of the fun is getting something I might not normally pick out for myself.

New Glarus is not a problem, and I think I have a feeling for the style you like. Central Waters is readily available. Milwaukee Brewing Company and Lakefront Brewery also make fantastic beer (though nothing too exotic), so if you see anything there I might have to force myself to go on their brewery tours again and pick some up. Capital Brewery is beloved by all. I also have to throw in one of my current personal favorites: Oscar's Oatmeal Stout by Sand Creek.

Let's say $30-35ish in beer for now - if there is something that trips your trigger than we can always trade more.

Oh, any how many cases of Miller Chill can I put you down for?

Vinnlander, shoot me a PM when you get a chance. I should be able to track down some of my favorite WI and OH brews in time for the April 30th deadline
Also, anyone sending beer from Wisconsin better include some Ale Asylum. I need to figure out if that place will fill up a corny keg for me to bring back to OH.

(The brewery is about a mile from my house. Still haven't taken the tour.)

I'll trade you some Miller Lite. And I have taken the tour (it wasn't worth it)

Who would have thunk that adding water to water and bottling it wouldn't be interesting to see.

Awesome. Thanks for putting this together Norfair!

PM sent, Oso. Planning a selection of goodies for you now.

Shout out to Norfair for pairing me with the guy who lives near the beer I professed to love.

PMs engaged, go go gadget goojer beer exchange!

By the way, the reason I wrote out what I have access to is in the event we do this again, whoever I am matched up with can easily refer back to this thread.

Two cases of Miller Chill. With extra lime and extra chill, please. :p

Have a busy week Michael so I'll probably stop by the store on Thursday and get everything out on Friday. Be sure to PM me your address info!

Norfair, would you mind updating the OP with assignments and deadlines?

*sigh* I suppose.

Norfair, would you mind fetching me a sandwich?

Guys, maybe we need a second thread for a sandwich exchange?

Latest restock which includes the beers I will be sending to Michael.

Cricket Hill Reserve Ale - Bourbon Barrel Aged Porter (very limited, local only - got 2 bottles - one for Michael, one for me)
Ommegang Three Philosophers (To Michael)
Ballast Point Imperial Stout Sea Monster (For me. Very excited as this is a very rare beer around my parts)

IMAGE(https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-4d4LZjMGDH8/T2EOAvsJ1uI/AAAAAAAAD98/Bu3Iqqws9_M/s800/IMAG0175.jpg)

Some singles I picked up too.
Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown Ale (For me)
Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron (To Michael)
Flying Fish Exit 4 American Trippel (For me)
Keegan Ale's Mothers' Milk (To Michael - Hudson Valley brewery. This is a very nice rich and creamy milk stout)
Weyerbacher Simcoe IPA (For me)
Cricket Hill Hopnotic IPA (For me)
Great Divide Hoss Rye Lager (For me)

That's slightly over $35 Michael but who's counting? Let's just figure for $35

I already set aside the beers indicated above for you but if you see something else you think you would like instead, let me know. As it stands I'll probably be sending these out on Friday once I find packing materials. Hope you enjoy!

Also Michael, not sure if you're interested but they had some of the rarer Brooklyn Brewery offerings: Sorachi Ace and Local 1. I didn't get them as I wanted to stay true to your Porters/Stouts affinity but if you'd rather have one of these I can pick one up.

Well I'm not setting it up.

Sadly, I just saw this. If there's anyone else who comes in on the tail end I'd be happy to exchange with anyone near large bodies of water. I'm in Iowa about 60 miles away from Wisconsin (20 when I visit my inlaws). The micro-brew business in Iowa has really picked up the last few years (along with wine) so there's quite a bit to choose from. I'm partial to IPAs, October styles, ambers, and others. Not a big fan of Stouts or Wheats, though. Anyway, if there are other stragglers I'd be happy to participate.

Let me email the menage a tois. We can work this out.

That would be awesome. Thanks, Boogle.

How many times do I have to ask you to stop calling it that, boogle?

Also, whoever I do end up sending beer to (as we will likely find a good spot for EvilHomer) sorry- reading this thread has made me realize that we should have much more micro competition. That said, the beers I'm sending from the microbrew adjacent to my town are excellent in my opinion. So, there's that.

Going shopping tomorrow!

FSeven, let me know how that DFH works out, I haven't seen that one.

I wish we got special Dogfish head brews where I live. I really enjoy IPAs.

Think I'll probably bring the DFH Red & White over mom and dad's on Sunday for St. Patty's Day corned beef dinner. Will let you know the result.

Have you tried Copper Creek in Athens? I've never had their IPA but I'm sure it's pretty good. I saw they also have domestic "guest" brews. I'd be wanting to try that Victory Golden Monkey and Bell's Two-Hearted (which is an IPA). See if they'll sell you a growler of the Bells Two-Hearted.

Both Golden Monkey and Two Hearted are great. Can't recommend them enough. But there's a thread for that kind of discussion =)

I don't go out much- it's been years since I've visited. I get invited to hang out there fairly frequently, I'll have to give Bells Two-hearted a try though.

Look what appeared on my doorstep last week:

Oh my. Massive 750ml bottles of delicious Missouri-brewed hooch... and Might and Magic II :D. That detail cracked me up. It's a gaming site after all!

I have since demolished two of them. The first was the Schlafly Reserve barleywine, a cask-conditioned ale with heavy vanilla character but enough hoppiness to balance it. This reminded me a great deal of New Holland's Dragon's Milk, which is not an unkind comparison. I dug it.

Yesterday while enjoying some afternoon cornhole I popped the cork (!) on the Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale from Boulevard Brewing Company. While I'm not a big Belgian or hoppy beer fan I appreciated this bracing brew on a warm afternoon. Quite grapefruity and had a tenacious head but drank surprisingly flat even with a careful pour. Then again, after a few hundred milliliters I didn't give a sh*t :). I think it's a fine example of the style.

Thanks conejote! I look forwarded to sampling the remaining two soon.

I have acquired most of the beers I want to send but there's one more I'm trying to find that isn't even local (another New Holland brew), just something I found fascinating and wanted to share. Once I locate it (or not) I'll have it heading your way. The rest of the selection is a wide variety of local brews that I think you'll dig.

Be careful with the double-wide. It is deceptively strong and very tasty.

Glad you're enjoying them, ColdForged! I looked everywhere for Boulevard's seasonal Rye on Rye to send in place of Tank 7, but no luck. Apparently it hit the shelves a couple of days after I left town, and it's already sold out at the two places I went to after getting back yesterday.
