CTRL+F4 closes the current browser tab. WHAT!?

As does Ctrl+w or middle-clicking the browser tab.

Bonus browser tricks: You probably already know that Ctrl+t creates a new tab, but if you type something into the address bar and hit Alt+Return it'll create a new tab and navigate the new tab to whatever you had typed into the bar. Also Ctrl+shift+t reopens the most recently closed tab.

One of the reference models for Ariel in The Little Mermaid went on to become Slappy Squirrel in Animaniacs.

Just FYI, malwarebytes is blocking that site for malware activity.

There’s a difference between “emend” and “amend”. Thanks daily crossword for teaching me that!

I'm not sure I knew the word "emend" existed. Which technically was a difference.

I think the definition of emend needs to be amended.

Amen.

In the Insomniac Spider-Man game, if you hang out at street level for a couple seconds, one of the pedestrians will come up to you and you can high-five them.

Or just walk down the street.

As an introvert this is my nightmare Same with the GTA/Yakuza games where pedestrians bark at you for getting too close even if you're just walking by. The older Assassins Creed games had it right, crowds are for blending in.

I only played one of the Assassin's Creed games briefly, but my main memory of it is pedestrians constantly pointing at me and saying "What is he doing? Has he gone mad?"

(I think those reactions were meant to play when the player is acrobatically leaping from wall to wall, but I remember them happening every time I hopped over a fence or stood on a wall or such.)

When in Details view of Windows Explorer and editing a filename, striking the Tab key will apply what you've written and move you to editing the next file's name.

There is an actual place called Thousand Islands and the dressing wasn’t named solely to evoke the vague notion of exotic tropical islands.

Also, on a not entirely unrelated note, someone asked me, while I was eating scampi, why scampi was called scampi. Well, I’ll have to tell him, next time I see him, that:

The word scampi is the plural of scampo, the Italian name for the breaded prawns or langoustine.

But...scampi isn't breaded. At least, no scampi I've ever had was breaded.

In the UK it is. Where abouts are you? US?

The second generation of Xbox Elite controller, when used with Windows, can bind the back paddles to keyboard keys in addition to controller inputs. This effectively gives the Elite controller 4 more inputs than the base model has.

It might not seem like much, but my wife plays WoW with an Xbox controller and she's thrilled about getting access to the extra buttons.

It took me so long to find out because the last time I looked into it was with version 1 of the Elite, and that was hard-locked to duplicating controller buttons.

Still just thumbsticks though, right? Microsoft is holding a stranglehold on controller precision since they won't adopt gyro aim like Nintendo and Sony and Valve have done.

This is what we Americans conjure anytime scampi is mentioned:

Yeah, no gyroscope on the Xbox controller. I think they're still mad at us for not taking to the Kinect.

VR finished what Kinect started. Killer app for both is waving your arms around like an idiot (Dance Central and Beat Saber respectively)

Speaking of waving your arms around, for my money Fantasia justified the cost of the Kinect on its own.

Doesn't quite justify replacing a broken one, but it's close.

Hang on, doesn't Disney own Harmonix now? Where's my Fantasia VR? ... What's that? It's probably coming to a Disney park and the ticket will run over $1000? Damn monkey's paw...

TIL the Ghostbusters theme was ripped off of Huey Lewis' I Want a New Drug

This is rich:

"Ghostbusters" peaked at No. 1 for three weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, and at No. 1 for two weeks on its Black Singles chart. The song was also nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1984, but lost to Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" from The Woman in Red.

Tug of war can sever appendages

TIL: don't play with a nylon rope or lots of people.

When I went bungee jumping, we were told that if, during a bounce, the rope comes near you you should absolutely not try to bat it away - it can wrap around your arm and then, at best, dislocate your shoulder as you go back down for another bounce.

You would think that would be a strong argument for simply not going bungee jumping, but the big thing I learned that day is that my fear of looking like a chicken in front of friends is stronger than my common-sense instincts for self-preservation. Also that I am dumb.

The NES was a front-loading game system so it looked like a VCR, not a game console, after the crash of the US game market and the familiarity of the top-loading console... hmmm....

What!? First NintendoPlayStation, then SegaPlayStation declined Sony in favor of the Sega Saturn? Wait what where... is this true? What am I watching on The History Channel right now? If true this could have saved Sega. But is it true? I'm confused....

I’ve just discovered that a whole slew of games, that I was desperately hoping would come to Playstation, are on PlayStation, including Fights in tight spaces and Exo One. I guess there are so many games now that they just launch on the console without any fanfare whatsoever.

Actually Exo One isn’t for sale yet but it has a place holder on the store ‘coming 2023’

Sadly Hard West 2 isn’t there yet but I live in hope!

Fights In Tight Spaces might be my favourite card based rogue-lite-like.

I’ve started playing it and I adore it already. It’s exactly what I wanted and what I hoped the game would be when I saw the trailers. The fights remind me of SuperHot where you feel like you are thinking on your feet in a fast paced brawl but actually you have a ton of time to consider your next move.
