Things you should know by now, but only just discovered

Red snappers are the best kind of hot dog (for the snap, not the dye).

Today I learned: "ghibli" (as in the studio) is Italian for "scirocco", i.e. a hot desert wind.

Where I live we call it Santa Ana winds condition. I’ll be calling them Ghibli from here on.

Apparently the source word should properly have a hard "g", contrary to the studio name.

Scirocco isn’t a general term hot desert wind, it’s the hot desert wind that comes off the Sahara into Europe in the summer. The wind that goes the other way is the Mistral. Scirocco is the Italian word for this wind when it is occurring in Italy, when it is occurring in Libya (which was an Italian Colony) it’s called the Ghibli, which what the Italians wrote down phonetically from the Arabic.

Not sure it’s something you should know by now but I like cars and have wanted a Maserati Ghibli since I was eight and came very close to buying a VW Scirocco. ^_^
