Things you should know by now, but only just discovered

I've always preferred Temple of Doom over Raiders of the Lost Ark, but my favorite is by far The Last Crusade. And since I'm upsetting people, I'll confess I also like Crystal Skull.

Hot take: Indiana Jones' involvement in Raiders of the Lost Ark is pointless. What happens at the end would have happened whether he had been there or not.

YES. YES. YES.

I also enjoyed Crystal Skull, and I love Temple of Doom. I love all of the Indiana Jones movies, and there are redeeming qualities about each of them.

My family recently enjoyed a Star Wars marathon in which we watched every film in chronological time line order. We spread it out over several weeks. There has already been rumblings about doing the same with Indiana Jones.

Big Bang Theory even used that as a plot point. S7E4, The Raiders Minimalization. I quite enjoyed that one. Sheldon reads "Pride and Prejudice" so he can point out its flaws to Amy, only to find it has none.

It's not the heart. It's all the gross out food and bug sh*t. I hated Temple of Doom as a kid and it's never grown on me as an adult.

The food scene was steeped in racist xenophobia when it was released, and it's only gotten worse with time.

Not true.

1. Indy found the ark. There's no proof Marion would’ve given up the medallion, so the Nazis may never have found the ark on their own.
2. Marion and Indy blew up the plane that was going to fly the ark out of Egypt, so the ark may have made it all the way to Germany instead of detouring to an island military base.
3. Belloq may have even opened the ark in Hitler's presence. So Indy may have saved Hitler!
4. If Indy didn’t exist, Brody would’ve suited up and found the ark himself.*

* I love Last Crusade except that it retconned Brody into an idiot. Watch him again in Raiders. He's an older version of Jones who was probably very much like Indy himself in his earlier days.

Yeah I guess it's all based on them getting the medallion whole. Because with the half medallion, they weren't even digging in the right place.

It's always nice to find another Temple of Doom lover, as well as someone who liked Crystal Skull. I bet if we had seen Crystal Skull when we were young and watched the first three for the first time, we'd love it as much. To me, and this is just my personal opinion, it's not a matter of those movies having "redeeming qualities" --I think they are all fantastic films, even if some elements here and there don't work for me.

You should absolutely, 100% do this!

It's not a stretch to say that Donnie Yen is the best thing about Blade II.

Don't forget him making Adrian Paul look good in Highlander: Endgame.

There are no other Highlanders. There can be only one.

There can be only one Highlander move. This is a two hour Highlander The Series episode with more swearing and nudity that did poorly in theaters.

It's not like it even makes any sense--the famous thing about Indian food is that a lot of it is spicy and vegetarian. The dinner scene is just a revivification of existing xenophobic Hollywood tropes to punch up an exposition scene, mostly because George and Steven are about twelve years old and thought it would be funny to make it as gross as possible. (There are reasons why India didn't allow them to film there.)

I'm watching Cabin in the Woods and someone put together that the directors are talking to the lab lady that they only failed in 1998 because of the Chem department, that they (possibly) are referencing one of my favorite horror movies growing up, The Faculty. It came out in '98, it has the five stereotype characters, the plot involves them fighting the alien with homemade drugs, and they kill the alien and everyone survives. I swear, just when you think you know everything about that movie, there's always another layer.

I just discovered an incredible app for sharing mouse and keyboard between two separate pcs. It's called Mouse Without Borders and it allows you to simply your move your mouse off the edge of the screen and it "magically" appears on the other screen!

I often work on a desktop and have either a laptop or Surface on my desk when I hop around the office. This program seamlessly works as if the second pc was a second monitor. I had no idea this app exists - and it's a Microsoft Garage product.

Those apps are so cool! I have used Synergy for this for a long time. It used to be open source but now you have to pay for it (the old free version may be able to be found somewhere though). It'll even work between operating systems too. I used to use it when I needed both a Windows and a Mac machine on my desk.

I was going to mention Synergy. I loved that program. I had a 4 pc setup at once point simulating a real world setup and Synergy made it so much easier to use.

Was talking to a friend recently who said he was nervous nowadays walking around NYC because of sunlight sneezing. I asked what sunlight sneezing was. So here’s to anyone else like me who has never encountered it:

It me. The struggle is real.

I've heard of it before (but it doesn't affect me).

It runs in my family, on both sides. I have it.

WTF.

Going to have to pay attention to when I sneeze just to see.

I've been getting allergy shots all year and things have gotten better in general. But yesterday had a bunch of sneezes for no apparent reason. I wonder...

I sneezed uncontrollably for an entire afternoon after eating a Chik-fil-A burger. Guess I'm allergic to homophobia.

Too bad that specific allergy is not contagious.

Can allergies be contagious? That's a terrifying prospect, generally speaking.

Well, infectious, if not necessarily contagious:

I don't think you went to Chick-Fil-A if you had a burger... just saying.

I have the sunlight sneeze thing. Doesn't happen all the time but it does happen often enough when I step out into sunlight for the first time in a few hours.

I didn't go. Someone picked it up for me. But don't they make chicken burgers? Or are they sandwiches?

Whatever they’re called, they’re inedible.

Chicken sandwiches, not chicken burgers. Those would be ground chicken patty based.

Don't have the problem but my wife taught me if I have a sneeze I am waiting for to look near or think about the sun and you'll sneeze. It helps!

Really!! Just thinking about looking at the sun? That’s interesting.

It's known that some cause->effect reflexes work both ways. Smiling, for instance, is a reflex action to being happy, and for most people, forcing a smile will make them feel happier. I know there are others as well, but I can't think of any examples right this second. I might edit in more if I remember any.

Observation: when sneezing, you involuntarily close your eyes.

Observation: when exposed to sudden bright light, you involuntarily close your eyes.

Hypothesis: this is a cause->effect reflex reversal.

It doesn't even take the sun. You can trigger it in a dark room with a night light. Just has to be the differential brightness. I suspect it has more do with pupil contraction than closing eyes, because the eye closing happens after the initiation of a sneeze, not before.
