WoW: The new scroll of res, free 80s and character faction/server transfers FREE UPGRADE TO CATA

The Scroll of Resurrection has just been infused with powerful glyphs, making it more potent than ever before. For a limited time, you can earn a free faction mount when you use a Scroll of Resurrection to bring a friend or former guildmate back to World of Warcraft.
Once your friend accepts your scroll and pays for at least 30 days of game, you unlock your choice of the following rewards:
A Free Spectral Gryphon for an Alliance character

Or a Free Spectral Wind Rider for a Horde character

And, to enable you and your friend to play together in Cataclysm’s newest content, any friend who accepts your Scroll will also receive the following epic benefits:

A single character immediately boosted all the way to level 80 -- DING!

A FREE upgrade to Cataclysm -- regardless of your friend’s original box level

An optional FREE character move -- to your realm and faction so you can play together

7 FREE days of game time -- available immediately

Any active World of Warcraft non-trial player can send a Scroll of Resurrection. To be eligible to receive a Scroll of Resurrection, your friend must have previously purchased at least one month of game time at any point in the past, and your friend’s account must have been inactive since March 4, 2012 or earlier. A few other prerequisites apply -- such as a free upgrade to a Battle.net account for players who haven’t played since 2009 or earlier -- so be sure to check out the FAQ for full eligibility details.
Click here to start sending Scrolls of Resurrection. Alternatively, you may send scrolls from within the game by opening your friends list (mapped to “O” in the default hotkeys) and then clicking on the Scroll of Resurrection button.
With the newly-revamped Scroll of Resurrection, there has never been a better time to bring a friend back to World of Warcraft, but hurry, because this offer will not be available forever.

So free 80s, at first I was a bit taken back, but I guess they had to do something to bridge the gap for new players, or well old players just coming back .

I am more surprised by the free upgrade to Cataclysm! It has only been a year since it came out. Quite a deal, if you ask me! The only thing is that Cataclysm's 1-60 content was pretty fun, so people will miss out on that.

Free 80? That's absurd. They really must be scared with how their numbers are dropping.

Absurd? Not at all. By letting returning folks start at 80, Blizzard gets folks to the edge of the newest content and dangles the expansion in front of them. It's a good solid plan that might turn into some longer-term subs and some Panda x-pack purchases.

But I agree with you, Garion, that Blizzard's worried about subscriber retention. Keep in mind that the reports of a shrinking subscriber base quote the net loss. I'd love to know what the gross loss is before new subs are added in. That's what this move is aimed at.

If anyone wants a scroll, PM me and we'll do this. All I need is a valid e-mail addy. The FAQ says I can send out one of these a day.

I saw that with the yearly pass too. Sure you're getting D3 for 'free', but they also let you into the MoP beta, but not the final release which is probably out within a year, which you'll probably 'need' if you want to play that full year.

You know? I would rather have 80 levels to throw out to my existing characters than raise 1 to 80. Hell, I'd take 60, 40 or 20 levels.

My biggest stumbling block is leveling in the 60's. They really need an Outlands revamp or an Outlands alternative. Those zones are so all over the map with regards to challenge, finding objectives, and running required.

But I am afraid that there are now too many conveniences in other mmo's that are missing in WoW to go back. looting all nearby corpses, private loot, the flexibility of RIFT's class system, RIFT's skill trees and roots, SWTOR companions, the usefulness of AOE's in SWTOR combat.

I know they are revamping the talent system yet again. But am I remembering wrong in that they were also going to implement the hero classes finally?

If you can auto-level to 80 on a scroll of resurrection, you can bet it won't be long before this is added as a feature.

What amazes me is you only need to sub for 30 days to get it.

Ok, now they are tempting me.. just tempting me.

I wanted to get Cataclysm, but at 40$ without an extra month on there website, was just rediculous.

The retail copy got one, but I wanted to wait until summer.

Now, they are telling me, get a friend, get the scroll, and get Cataclysm for 15$? I'm kinda sold.. I have been out when the Lich King Raid was implemented, I resub to try out the new lore of the trolls.. but this Cataclysm one.. Do you guys still do 10-man raid? I wanted to have a Shaman, and I got a tank I might have moved (I had 3 level 80 before I quitted, Paladin, Warrior, Hunter).

Edit : Btw, where is the source in the original post?

I hear that. The guild XP bonus, the legacy gear and the Dungeon Finder make it bearable, and the XP and quest nerfs help, too. But the Outland zones are now the oldest in the game, and they show their age. There's no plan I know of to revamp Outlands or Northrend. I suspect they're on a spreadsheet somewhere, but they're way down the to-do list. Some recent Blizzard info suggests the Azeroth revamp was a lot more involved than their worst-case scenarios.

Related: No hero classes in Panda. (Death Knight was the first and probably the last; the balancing issues were difficult as hell.) The X-pack will have one new class: monk, which seems to be a leather-wearing shaman/rogue hybrid of some sort.

Oh, that is right! I forgot about the new pokemon pet system.

I may be getting my mmo's mixed up but I also thought that maybe they were implementing lower quality heirloom gear as well? (i.e. instead of autoleveling purple gear, there would be autoleveled, green or blue gear that is easier to acquire)

Damn, this has actually got me thinking about re-subbing. WoW was my first MMO and I think I love the community aspect of guild life as much as the game. I'm not sure how much of that life is left with so many having moved on to other things.

That's a great deal but at 80 all you can do is a million Heroics, right?

Why even bother when there's quest greens in the new zones with better ilvl than WotLK heroic items?
But yes, once you hit 85 you do heroics, kill other players or raid.
No new content forthcoming until Pandaland, so if that set of content isnt enough for you, don't bother.

PM me if you want a scroll so I can get my free mount help a fellow goodjer.

Hey is there any way someone can send me a scroll pretty please? Just send me a PM if so. Not sure if I will be able to accept tonight (having trouble locating my WOW disks atm) or early next week as I will be gone on vacation, yay! Thanks!

Zabs

PM sent.

Scroll of Resurrection FAQ[/url]]After accepting the Scroll, the recipient can choose one character to boost to level 80. The character’s spec will be chosen by the recipient prior to completing the level boost and the character will also be given appropriate talents under the chosen spec. The character will be placed in his or her faction’s capital city and will be ready to adventure immediately. This means that the character will be granted all class skills and spells up to level 80, a flying mount and riding skill, and a green quality set of level- and spec-appropriate gear for leveling.

Wow, they went all-out with this...

If anything, it's just a bit of care and attention to what they're doing rather than just dusting off the old scroll of resurrection. I'm sure they have templates for all those things figured out anyway, but putting the time in to automate it into the system with the aim of bringing people back shows they're serious.

I came back to WoW right when Cataclysm was released. I rolled a Worgen and played it through to the 60s. It was a blast because of how fun and fast the improved world was. Then I hit Outlands and my enthusiasm for that character was snuffed in less than 1 level. That place shatters dreams and breaks spirits. It was almost like a complete 180 in how things played from 1-60 and how they are in Outlands.

This is why I played my Worgen druid to around level 61-62 in the old world, and bolted for Northrend right at 68. Knowing Outlands like the back of my hand and already knowing which quests were drop nightmares helped a bunch too.

I hadn't heard that the heirloom system was changing. I'm pretty sure Blizzard wants everyone to take the slow boat to max level at least once.

It's not all that hard these days. Yes, Outlands (except for Nagrand) stinks, but it makes you appreciate Northrend all that much more.

So any tips if I want to take advantage of this? The highest I've ever played a char is 70, so I'm not sure if I'll be completely useless with my new 80 or if I'll be able to pick things up quickly as a returning character.

My wife is wanting to get her account reactivated with one of these. If someone that can send one out would message me on Steam (or here) I'd appreciate it. You're pretty much guaranteed a mount in the deal since she'll undoubtedly sub for at least a month.

Edit: Taken care of, thanks Merphle

If anyone wants a scroll, PM me and I can hook you up.

I can hook someone up with a scroll. PM me.

Someone PM me with their Battle.net address if they want to send *me* a Scroll.

I'll explain the funky backwardness by PM.

Somebody took me up already.

I can send out scrolls, too. Shoot me a PM.

For your class and spec, I cannot recommend the MMO Melting Pot quick-start guides enough. I dabble with a lot of different classes, and these are great guides that give you the basics on rotations, builds, stats and glyphs.

A lot of the classes feel different these days -- hunters use energy instead of mana, for instance, but it's the same game you played before. Just pick a starter zone (probably Hyjal; Vash is disorienting because it's under water) and do some quests until you get a feel for how to kill things. Then hit some instances for some Justice Points. I think the revived toons start at iLvl 320 or so, which is plenty good for regular dungeons.

If your toon is on BH-A, I'm usually in game after 7 p.m. EDT (6 p.m. server) for a couple of hours if you have specific questions.

Bump to let folks know that I can send out scrolls if you want back into WoW.

Enix, I'll take a scroll if you have one. I won't use it until after this weekend though....SWTOR Free Trail has all my game time this weekend!

I wanted a scroll, but I wanted as well someone to play with. This is a nice option, but as a casual, and I know I can be demanding, guess I'll see around what I can do.

Are there still Casual goodjers playing that game? or is it mostly raiders nowaday?
