Mass Effect 3 Catch-All

EDIT: Never mind.

I'm not that psyched about an increased drop rate on classes. I'll get them all eventually and I'd really rather get a new/improved weapon than some more cosmetic options.

Doh. Oh well.

Guess I won't play any more multi this weekend then. See you guys Tues night at midnight sharp though.

This is the on thing that really really really annoys me about Origin. My Origin account and my Bioware account are different (back before Origin and I had a Bioware account only...then Origin came out and didn't think to put in my Bioware account email), so I have ME2 on one account and all my DLC from Bioware through its account. I tried getting customer service to let me link the accounts but they wouldn't do it.

I had to order ME3 through Amazon cause Origin wouldn't let me use my Japanese credit card (even though it works just fine everywhere else). I've redeemed my game code and Argus Rifle code through Origin, but I'm worried about when I buy future DLC from Bioware if I'm gonna have to jump through hoops to get all the various DLCs to play nice with each other.

Oh well. At least it worked so far and is downloading. Tuesday can't come soon enough!

I'm quite happy, since I gambled on buying extra Bioware points when they were on sale. Hopefully there will be something as good as Kasumi/LotSB for ME3 for me to spend my balance on.

From what I've heard, you can get EA support to merge accounts for you. I've heard that from several people.

Here were my various EA accounts from when Origin started (but they're all on one email address):

That looks familiar. I didn't have the Battlefield or NFS, but also had a Spore and PSN account on there. What a mess.

Yeah, I tried with EA support, but they said they couldn't do it. I have on Origin Account with one email and another Origin Account with the email I used at the old Bioware site (that email has SW:TOR registered to it, which is a pain). I might give EA Support another try sometime...

I had to get Bonnonon to buy it for me in Canada since I don't have a Japanese credit card. Is the release date, for us, Tuesday?

Yeah, Vector, I think it is. Cause we have "North American" copies of the game. And if it's registered with Origin it shouldn't matter where you're playing the game from.

At least that's what I'm betting on. I will be super pissed if that's not the case.

Wow, two sentences ended with prepositions in that last post. I can speaking English.

Awesome sauce. I've been hoping that's the case. I found it odd that Japan doesn't have a listed release date but almost every other country does.

Rearry?

So, let's say that I don't give a rat's ass about multi-player but I'm a Mass Effect completionist and I'll put in 80 hours of ME3 next week on multiple play throughs. How screwed over am I? Are there some story lines I'll be locked out of?

No they've repeatedly said that multi only enhances single. If you do the multi it will make some part of the solo game easier by giving you extra troops from other races or something. They haven't exactly been specific about it because spoilers...

But they've also said you can apparently do enough sidequests or something in solo play to get the same result.

That said, have you tried the multiplayer demo? I thought I would hate it but it's way more fun than it has any right to be. I'm actually torn about what to play first on Tues. I know I want to get my Shep imported so that I can apply multi bonuses to the main game. But I want to play the hell out of some multi with goodjers because it's so fun.

I'll probably take one or two days to get far enough (read: when I get the Galactic readiness meter) in single player before diving into multi with all you guys. What can I say, I'm a roleplaying whore.
I will be sending a lot of Origin friend invites when I get the game though.

Huh. Guess the Alliance News Network is over. 4 weeks, was that it?

No news posted today.

With BF3, it was about your IP address location when you did the unlock check. Not where you bought the game.

US people were clamboring over themselves to find free (sketchy) Asian VPNs to unlock the game early.

Also, apparently things got pretty serious on the Bioware forums the last week or so. New behavior policy popped up a few days ago. Talking about personal attacks and stuff, so probably related to that horrible harassment that was going on recently.

Now, a new forum, for game owners only.

Origin users with the same EA/Bioware account will automatically be registered. Console users will have to enter the online pass code included with new copies of the game on their console and play while logged in.

So I guess used game buyers won't get forum access?

Origin beats the sh*t out of Steam in terms of download speeds both for BF3 (launch date) and ME3 demo. Same for the final game. I'm lovin' it!

No, I'm good. Yeah, that might be a little harsh for general chat. ->

Spoiler:

If I wanted to be in a multi-player shooter, I'd just hang around an American high school.

I'm betting that'll change once/if Origin gets the same amount of business as Steam. But that looks great for now.

Probably, but even on non-sales I can't make Steam give me more than 1MB/s and even then it's unstable and more like 500-700KB/s which is extremely slow (just 4 years ago I couldn't imagine such speeds, now it's too slow...).

Yeah I get 1.5 mb/s best speed for Steam. That's usually during non-sale or anything but TF2 updates. Those never get max speed.

But on Origin so far... ME2, DA2, DS2, ME3... I think 1.4 mb/s is the slowest I've gotten, and it's went over 2 a few times.

Looks like Miranda, Grunt, and Legion are all in the new trailer. Unless that was Ashley with her new Miranda inspired looks. How sick would it be to roll with Grunt and Wrex both in your party at the same time? Krogan death party coming through.

Seriously? That is a messed up policy and I hope that's not how it works with ME3. If I have a legit copy and can't play when everyone else can...gah, what can I do but impotently rage. That sucks.

Hmmm. I just ran the ME3 game, which had finished installing a while ago. It has a "release date" checker that runs at start-up. The first time it ran and said I wouldn't be able to unlock the game until Thursday at midnight. Loaded up my VPN and it switched to 2pm Tuesday. Guess I'll be running the VPN when I start up on Tuesday.

First world problems.

Huh weird.

Other people having the same problem I was. Instead of getting release-date check, getting an 64-bit error.

Apparently re-installing Origin fixes it? But I just updated Origin today. Very odd.

EDIT: Actually just right-clicking on the game and "check for updates" fixed it. It downloaded an extra 40mb patch, which apparently has the proper release date check thing for x64. Good to go now. Is it Tues yet?!

Your release date will be: 09 march 2012, 02:00

This is the kind of sh*t I find {ableist slur}. The game is pre-loaded, the official release date is 6th/8th - why do I have to wait? Makes even less sense for digital distributed copies since they are sitting on HDDs for nothing, why not unlock them all on the 6th?

I long for the death of retail.

Why stop there? Why do we have to wait a second after the game has gone gold if people are willing to exchange money for it?

New video from Bioware on multiplayer, explaining what the prestiege button (greyed out in demo) means and more.

Hm, the language used in that video could be interpreted to mean that there are only five maps. Hopefully I'm reading too much into that and each galactic zone has more than one map, but that would be a bit of a bummer. That said, the two maps we've been playing on are quite well designed and remain tactically interesting even after extensive play, so if there are only three more but they are equally well designed, well, that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world I guess.

I kept thinking about the five map thing so I went back and watched the video. I don't think he's saying there are only five maps. There are five zones and the multiplayer maps are in those zones. I would think you'd have to have at least two maps in each zone to make it worth 'zoning' them (I could be wrong of course) I'm hoping there are more maps. I think I'll enjoy it more, and play the co-op longer, if I'm not bouncing between the same few maps.

I like the idea of sending troops off to appear in a single player battle somewhere. It'd be great to be playing Shepard and to suddenly see a Svip (my Salarian :P) locked in bloody battle with the enemy.
