Mass Effect 3 Spoilers

This is the spoiler thread! Please continue to use spoiler tags indicating what it is you'll be discussing.

Example:

From the opening scene:

Spoiler:

Shepard is totally awesome when she hits that guy.

Early Citadel trip...

Spoiler:

I totally punched that reporter again.

She tried to fight back. So I headbutted her.

I really hope they continue the storyline with the reporter on the Citadel. I feel as if she must really want to kill me after being smugly humiliated (ME 1) and then punched right in the mouth (ME 2). If she doesn't come after me with a merc squad I'll be very disappointed.

Edit: Looks like nobody likes the reporter.

Minor early/mid-game spoilers (if you played the demo you're cool; From Ashes DLC involved)

Spoiler:

Take the Prothean to Sur'Kesh to get the female krogan. Mordin's reaction is hilarious.

Spoilers up to the first visit to the Citadel/Normandy

Spoiler:

No, Ashley is in the hospital! Shepard stayed committed to that girl through all of ME2. Hope she gets out soon.

I'm strictly Paragon so I didn't punch the reporter. The paragon option is actually pretty sweet, she becomes noticeably panicked and Shepard comforts her and tells her to put pressure on the Council to help. She becomes a war asset like that other reporter you can get.

I like how the Normandy is different yet familiar. I miss the old Cerberus crew of Kelly, Ken, and Gabby. Also I keep walking through rooms and thinking, yep that's where that squad member was. The redesign on the CIC is weird, they rip out half the rooms to put in a copy of the Battlestar Galactica CIC. Also I've no idea why there's a security checkpoint inside a military frigate.

Also I wonder how heavily the Shadow Broker stuff is integrated for people who didn't play Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC in ME2.

I don't like how they presented the Liara option. Where is Miranda, how does she feel about me? They give me no clue and throw me in Liara straight away. Oh well, I guess you always go back to the first one anyway :).

EDIT: After seeing Miranda

Spoiler:

Now I saw her, first time told her we're done, she cried, I felt bad and loaded. Told her we're fine, she doesn't want to be a part of my crew atm and all that jazz with her sister. Felt bad again for Liara (I should have stuck with Miranda from the start of the game). Now I loaded back and will tell Miranda that we're done again.

THIS IS JUST A GAME! WHY DO I CARE ABOUT ALL THIS CRAP SO MUCH, I LOVE MASS EFFECT!

The one you are thinking off is Khalisah al-Jilani.

Wong was the investigative journalist you helped on two occasions during ME1 and who only sent you an email in ME2.

Edit: of those of you who have been playing, any thoughts on this complaint below?

This game's combat is really bad. Dudes respawn in sight, behind you while you're taking cover, whatever. Dudes literally drop out of the sky on jetpacks because they can't figure out a way to make the combat work otherwise. The combat is cover-based, ME2 schlock with a little bit of DA2 "oh hey, dudes spawn out of nowhere outside of the range at which you can be effective but they can still shoot you. why, because eff you, that's why."

FPSes like 6 generations ago didn't have enemies that magically respawn in your field of view, but apparently we're regressing

I can't say I've noticed enemies spawning in, I can't say I've been looking for it, but if it has happened in a mission I've done it's not been glaringly obvious to draw my attention to it. I've just skimmed the surface of the game so far though.

Until there's tons of complaints, or I see it for myself I'm inclined to say that one comment is someone looking for trouble. EA/Bioware have a bit of a target on their back for some people, and I try to 'correct for potential bias' when reading random comments on the internet.

The thing is, I know it's a game, I currently think it's a good game, but I know it's not going to be perfect, I know games make use of all sorts of trickery to achieve what they do and it's a case of hiding it well enough or making it fit the world. You can break any game by looking for spawn closets, etc. It's just judging what's "good enough" for each game. If there's enemies spawning right in front of you, then fair enough, that's poor design. Alternatively Bioware could patch the problem or mitigate it by making them appear out of stealth.

I've definitely seen guys jetpack in. But I don't really care how they arrive, so long as they're leaving in bodybags (or turning into shimmery light and disappearing, whatever).

So why wasn't I presented the option of

Spoiler:

shrugging my shoulders, saying that there are losses in war and leaving Ashley's bigoted body on the ground bleeding?

What you can get for buying 50 of the Spectre Pack boosters for Multiplayer.

That should probably go in the multiplayer thread.

I was furious that the Alliance had lost Boo until I was wandering around the ship (love the new design) and heard a familiar "squee!" Caught the little guy running around Jack's hidey hole.

Oh, I also found that there's a secret crew member you can get if you meet a very specific set of requirements:

Spoiler:

If you got Kelly to look after Shepard's fish and saved her from the Collectors, you can find her in the refugee camp on the Citadel and she will present you with... SHEPARD'S FISH!

Truly an asset beyond compare!

So has anyone that has progressed in ME3 found out if you can get a LMG like what they had in ME2?

I know that the M-76 Revenant is in ME3. Not sure how to get it in single player but some people have found it in multiplayer packs.

Stele wrote:

Yeah, but I figured that since it removed some of the wonder in opening the booster packs I threw it into the spoilers section
for those that want to remain unspoiled =)

Just ran into my favourite character from ME2 and...

Spoiler:

Jack got super hot :D

Not sure if this is spoilery or not but what the hell.

Hit the 2nd demo mission about 7 hours in. But it was probably available after just 2-3 hours. So it really wasn't that spoilery to play the demo. Kinda glad I did now.

Also... early relationship spoilers from 2nd Citadel visit:

Spoiler:

Damn I broke Miranda's heart. Tears as she turned away from me. Figured I needed to break things off with her to get back with Ash.

Although when I was visiting Ash in the hospital I got a little renegade with her, after she brought up Miranda, choosing the "you left me" option. Hoping I can still patch things up or my Shep is going to be lonely. :?

And if you don't meet those requirements, or, heck, don't import a Shepard at all, the only interaction with that NPC is on the wall on the 3rd level of the Normandy. That NPC didn't make it to ME3 if you start a game new. *sigh*

Liara romance spoilers:

Spoiler:

So I have been flirting with Liara nonstop, but she wasn't giving it up, complaining about the galaxy being in danger or some such bullcrap. So I hopped in the shower with my new assistant, and Liara got all kinds of upset! Damn, between c@ckblocking Reapers and clingy Asari, how's a Femshep supposed to keep loose?!

I bought it in a shop on the Citadel.

I won't play this for a while, it's my reward for clearing a few more off my Pile Of Shame, and will mostly avoid this thread; but there is one thing I desperately want to be spoiled on: WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF THE RACHNI DECISION IN ME1?!? Seriously, that is the one thing that has been weighing on me about the franchise for years.

I don't know, but I hope that the Rachni queen becomes a romance option. That cut scene would be only slightly more awkward than the existing ones.

Even though we're in the spoiler thread, I'm tempted to say "just play it". Whooops, I just did.

I haven't got to that bit yet (can't remember which decision I made on my current character), but I'd like to think there's a few repercussions whichever way you went on Noveria.

That kind of links to something I like - Aria's proposal and what you need to do to fulfil the quest is giving some nice head-scratching dilemmas, almost like you'd expect from The Witcher.

Citadel: Hanar Diplomat mission spoilers...

Spoiler:

KASUMI NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

:(

Ok, this is actually a pretty big spoiler and I'm way farther in than I should be after only a day so don't read this until after you're done with the

Spoiler:

Krogan storyline

Cool? Good. Then read on.

Spoiler:

So I gave in and went all paragon. I told Wrex, Eve and Mortin about needing to fix the giant array thingie to cure the genophage. I loved how hard a decision that was and I love how you had a whole mission to stew about it if you wanted to. The consequence of not getting the Sollarians involved in the war if you cured the Krogan was huge. HUGE! I loved it.

My problem, though, was that decision becomes moot on the very next mission. I head to the citadel and Cerberus is being a dick, I take care of that and now the Asari and the Sollarians are with us? Ok. I would have preferred to have some consequences, though.

But mostly, I wanted the option to lie to the Sollarians like they wanted me to lie to the Krogan. Remember, for all intents and purposes no one knows if the cure works or not until they get down to breeding. So I could have not told Mordin, he wouldn't have fixed it and went to his death thinking the saved the Krogan. Wrex would still have sent me troops and not known any better for at least a year. So why couldn't I lie and tell the Sollarians that we didn't fix it and they weren't cured?

From another forum, but I had to laugh out loud over this...

Pop quiz! Match each image to its corresponding location:

___ With its ancient lakebeds, vast canyons, and incredible vistas, this wonderous planet can only be Mars.

___ Utukku suffers from extreme temperatures and violent weather, discouraging colonization. Its vegetation is notable for having evolved flexible central stalks to survive highspeed winds.

___ Palaven's largest moon holds many turian secrets. A network of subterranean tunnels with mass effect field generators maintain heat and atmosphere on the surface.

I'm only a little ways into the game, just past the second or third 'Priority' mission, but ...

Spoiler:

I really hope Thane does more than sit feebishly in the Hospital. That's damned disappointing.

What can they do with those characters who are now optional? The best I can see is a guest appearance in select missions, otherwise they would need to check them as squad mates and a build for each, which I suspect would either dilute the rest or end up copying them. Besides, they were only 'contracted' for the omega relay mission. I think it does add a bit of variety that characters you've worked with can move on, rather than everything orbiting around the player character all the time.

Scratched wrote:

True, but I've already run into some other folks from the last game that were technically optional, and they had entire mini-quests revolving around them. I guess metrics proved that my buddy wasn't that popular? That's my best guess. I've been extremely impressed with the integration of characters and story choices from the last two games into ME3 so far; I'm just hoping they're saving him for a quest I can get further into the game.

I can only answer you from my game state, but ...

Spoiler:

If you chose to save the Rachni queen, you get to do a kickass quest where you go up against a bunch of Reaper-thrall Rachni. I don't imagine they designed this monster just for folks who chose to let the big girl go, so I'm sure they've got some fictional wrapper for them showing up in ME3. Anyway: Reaper-thrall Rachni eggs are one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. It's ... they're creepy.
