SOO. GOOD.

I can't recommend this game enough, guys.

Do Kickstarter backers get a GOG key too?

Here is the official trailer as well.

Yep!

Interesting...

Tagged, because I know I'm going to be itching to buy this when it's out

I really loved Weird Worlds, and this seems to be right in the same wheelhouse.

Steam also?

Yup.

Yup. Backers get GoG & already should have their Steam keys.

I <3 this game. So fun.

Finally they'll take my money!

So has anyone unlocked all of the ships yet? I've got them all except the alternate layout of the Rock ship, but that one shouldn't be too hard to unlock.

Other than unlocking the ships, I am also attempting to beat the game on normal difficulty using all of the different ship types. I've managed to win with all but 4 of the ships: the 2 Rock ships, the alternate layout for the Stealth ship, and the alternate Slug ship layout.

How has everyone else been doing?

Thanks! I should probably check my emails before asking dumb questions that would be answered if I had read the backer update the sent out

I <3 this game. So fun.

I enjoyed the 30 minutes I sunk into it, but I've found I have little interest/time to play most betas so I haven't put more time into it. Definitely looking forward to the 14th though.

The CD keys don't transfer I take it? How big is the game install? I like Steam because it saves me from having to reinstall massive games but if FTL is less than 50 megs I might as well just go for GOG.

Second, FTL will also be available on GOG.com! They will be selling a DRM free version that will include some bonus materials (a few music tracks / some development art). Also, they have kindly offered to give keys to everyone who backed the game at the $10 level and up! That means everyone who gets the game through the Kickstarter will also get the bonus content offered through GOG.com. This is in addition to the Steam key everyone will also receive!

I'm really sad I missed this KS because I would have backed it in an instant. I enjoyed Flotilla a lot despite all of its problems and this is very similar.

You need to play Weird Worlds if you haven't. Was just on sale too.

So I unlocked the new secret race. I was unable to complete his quest to unlock the final ship however.

Here are some pics of the new race and of my recent awesome game I had with the Shivan ship.

The new race has a special ability that recharges after a few seconds. I won't spoil it though.

The Shivan, the alternate Rock ship, is definitely going to be one of my favorites. It starts with this Heavy Piercing Laser that penetrates one bar of shields and does 2 damage, fire bombs, rock plating, and 4 rockmen. Its only downside is that it has no door system or external airlocks. But you can handle fires and boarders pretty well with a horde of rockmen.

Also, good news for $10 KS backers. You're getting access in about 48 hours!

I finally got it with the other $10 backers. Easily my favorite rouge like game. I want a iPad version so I can play on the couch. Hopefully the developers are planning this.

I dunno, I'm a huge fan of Rouge Squadron..

Yeah I got my product key, too, and I played it for about an hour this morning before work. I suck at the game so far, but I'm enjoying it. Lots of mistakes to learn from.

Release already damn you! >_>

I love being able to buy stuff on GOG. They always get my money first, if they're an option. They've got all the advantages of buying on disk AND online -- if they fail, you can have local backups, and as long as they're still in business, you can lose local copies, and download fresh ones.

And even if they decide to change the terms of the deal, there's nothing they can do about the games I've already downloaded... I'm in total control of the relationship. I LIKE this kind of arrangement. It's very difficult to get screwed... about the only way is if they go out of business between the time you pay for a game and when you download it.

FTL is an absolute dead-certain purchase. I eagerly await the 14th!

Tried out the beta Steam keys and OMGBBQWFT! I totally dig this game. All the random fun of Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space with the crunchy goodness and strategic decision making of a Rogue-like.

Based on what I've heard, I'm in complete agreement.

As a $10 backer, I really appreciate that they gave us early access - was a nice Labor Day treat, though it's competing with my Egyptologist Kung-Fu Artist who's currently on level 11 in Dredmor for my time.

I just have the Kestrel and Torus unlocked and still have a heck of a time finding enough scrap to get much in the way of power-ups going on (though I did revert to Easy for one game yesterday and after playing a bunch on Normal, the extra scrap really does make it seem easy). I've learned to keep moving forward since most of my deaths come from taking too long and getting clobbered when the fleet catches up to me but scrap does become an issue. Does anyone have tips for getting more scrap generally? I find that I have enough to upgrade my doors (upgraded doors seem like a huge help to start) and a bit of power/weaponry but that's about it. On my Easy playthrough, I was able to get up to shields level 2 and that was a huge help but I'm not sure where to get the scrap on Normal.

Also, any tips for fighting off boarders beyond the medbay trick? That works well other than when the boarders decide to hit your life support system (which seems to happen a lot), in which case our guys just asphyxiate in the medbay or die trying to fight their way to the O2 system.

To maximize scrap you need to try to hit as many beacons as possible in each sector. When you leave, you should be just one jump ahead of the enemy fleet. Also, you'll get more scrap for destroying an enemy than allowing them to surrender. You'll usually get more fuel, missiles, or drones if you allow them to surrender, but if you are looking for scrap, take them out. The exception to this rule is if they offer you a drone schematic or weapon that you can sell off in a store. Always accept those if offered. Also, you will get more scrap if you can manage to kill off enemy crews using boarding parties, depriving them of O2, fires, etc. Some other tips, don't always repair to full at stores. Keep yourself around 50%-75% hull. There are a lot of events that will fix your hull up for free. Don't hoard extra weapons and drones you're never going to use. Just sell them off.

As for boarders, if you are allowing boarders to take out your O2, you are doing the medbay trick wrong. You need to vent the entire ship except the medbay, forcing the boarders to stop what they are doing and running to the medbay for their lives, where you can pick them off at ease. Once you upgrade your doors system you can do this more slowly, just keeping the room the boarders are currently in in vacuum. Also, if you have the option to choose your crew, make sure you have a couple mantises or rockmen. They are the best for dealing with boarders.

As another $10 backer, I just got this game and I've been playing it a lot. I guess my one big complaint is that it is S-L-O-W. Not that it's boring -- not at all, and I rarely feel like I'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting for something to happen (though I frequently feel like I'm biting my nails waiting for something to happen).

But I look at the Steam clock after a couple sessions and a whole evening has vanished! I haven't tracked this closely but it seems like a single play can very easily last an hour, even if it's not one of the all-time epic playthroughs. I want to play "just one more" but if I do I'll turn up at the end with stinging eyes and a headache and it's 2am.

I guess I would like to be able to iterate a little faster, cycle through more unsuccessful games in less time. Maybe I am just not playing very efficiently and it will get better. I don't particularly want the game to speed up -- that would be too hard.

How do you veterans feel about this?

Was there a way to play this game early? An early build released to backers months ago or something? I remember playing it close to when the Kickstarter was going, decided to wait until it released, but got a craving when everyone was talking about it, but I couldn't find anything.

It was available via On-Live as I recall.
