SSX (2012) Catch-All

Well, there is nothing quite like flying down impossibly precipitous mountains in Patagonia, using a rapidly deteriorating wing suit, to the strains of Don't fear the reaper by Blue Oyster Cult.

Some race records may have been broken :).

I wish I still owned this title... Might have to eBay search.

I've had some fantastic close races against GWJ ghosts including yours.

Async in this game is sublime! I've never had as much fun 'not' playing directly against people as I did whilst playing this title.

Glad I'm still able to put up a challenge too

Yah, I had just a great time with this game. It regularly goes on sale to 10$ - I highly recommend to anyone who hasn't played.

Had a visit over new year from my mountaineering cousin. He loves, climbing sailing, etc. I showed him Battlefield, and actually played well (usually when showing someone a game my skills evaporate) but he could barely follow what the objectives were in the game. I also showed him SSX and he had a go at the Everest SURVIVE IT run, where you need to get down the run on one oxygen tank. Something about it clicked with him and we kept going back to it throughout his visit. His fingers would extend out wide of the controller when not in use and he did a lot of turning and twisting of the controller as he tried to urge his snowboarder onto the right course but, gradually, he got better and better. In the end he was nearly making it down the run twice but the suicidal nature of the enterprise kept nagging at him.
"You have to do this on one tank? Why doesn't she keep another one on the helicopter? Why doesn't she stay on the helicopter if she knows she doesn't have enough oxygen for a full run?"
On his best run I patted him on the back, "You got a gold medal. Well done."
"But I died."
"Yeah. But you got a gold medal."

I finally picked this up couple days ago, didn't get a change to really dig in yet. I played alot of Tricky back in the day.

It's a great game.

Agreed. I really regret trading it in...

Okay. Now I may have to pick this up. It is cheap as chips now. I loved Tricky back on the PS2!

I need to get back to playing this, the only negative point was them stupid survival races you had to do. The tracks in general were really fun, the tricks are glorious to pull of, I can remember playing the demo over & over, trying to get a higher score. This game deserved way higher sales than it achieved.

Just watched some Olympic snowboarding, and now I'm really wishing there was a next gen version of this ready to go. I will probably be re-buying this for the 360, but they have to do a sequel, right?

I have not heard of anything, I still think Tricky was way more fun then the reboot so I hope they go that way instead.
According to VGcharts SSX only sold .7m on ps3 and .6m on xbox so I am not sure if EA will be willing to risk on this frachise again.

I never saw numbers, but I stumbled on this when looking for next gen info:

EA's other big reboot this year, SSX, apparently fared a bit better. EA Labels president Frank Gibeau called this year's revival "a very successful launch for us," and lauded the game's "online innovation" as a catalyst for bringing the series back. "It's done well and you'll probably see more in the future," Gibeau concluded.

I also liked Tricky more, but I thought the new game was a blast, and more SSX would be a good thing. Hopefully we see something on the next gen consoles.

For those who regret getting rid of their copies of SSX it's going to be free to gold members on 360 from the 16th of December.

Now I regret not renewing my Gold membership

I should totally fire this up again.

Oh man, free? I'm so in. I enjoyed the demo but never wanted to pony up the cash, guess I better dust off the 360.

Thread... ARISE!

SSX is on sale for $5 on PSN+ right now, and I totally bought in. I had a ton of fun in the old SSX days, Tricky being my absolute favorite of the series. I'm a little disappointed by the "grindy" aspects of the World Tour mode. Needing to unlock courses, equipment, and riders is not exactly what I was looking for. But, the Explore mode? Now that's an absolute blast. That mode is much closer to the Tricky experience with all the mountains, courses, and riders unlocked and ready.

My biggest surprise thus far has been the amazing sense of speed. They've really managed to capture an insane feeling of flying down the mountain and incredible velocity. So much so that I realize just how tense I'm getting while playing. The downside to that sense of speed is feeling like everything is moving so fast, you have very little reaction time when branching paths and options present themselves on the course. I find myself re-playing some runs just to get a better sense of all the options as I fly down the mountain, and realizing that even after restarting the race, I still missed the turn I was trying to take.

Uh, had my hopes up there, but it's not on sale on the EU PSN. :/
