Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

On the one hand, the project really isn't clear why a fairly big-name studio like Harmonix needs Kickstarter.

On the other hand, it's Amplitude, you guys. I LOVE Amplitude.

Do they really need more than 3/4 of a million dollars to update Amplitude? That strikes me as way unnecessary, says the guy who has no idea what it costs to make a video game.

PXA wrote too much, the simple answer is likely this: licensing of music.

Harmonix isn't riding quite as high anymore since the guitar hero/rock band craze ended. Viacom sold them off to an investor and it's independent again.

Thanks for the education, folks.

[single tear]Why only Playstation 3 and 4 and not also a PC port??[/single tear]

Comments and articles suggest it's because Sony owns the Amplitude IP, so it's easier and cheaper to develop for them alone than to try and buy the rights back and release multi-platform.

Looks pretty cool puzzle-platformer. Has a prototype and two previous games from the team available for download so you can get a feel for it.

Aww... looks like this one is just going to fall short. Such a shame, looked like it was going to be a delightful little platformer.

Yeah, it really went on a funding blitz there towards the end.

I'm sort of surprised no one here has mentioned Codemancer yet. I've been meaning to, but kept getting caught up in other things.

My friend is making a coding-based educational strategy game, in which players will use the basics of coding/programming to control their characters and combat baddies. He's already hit the first stretch goal, which means the game will now include a level editor. Part way to the next stretch goal, which is an online class that teaches "Python for Codemancers," applying the game's mechanics to a real world programming language. The $40K stretch goal is to collaborate with an author on a YA novel set in the Codemancer universe. Really cool stuff! It's already funded for the base game, but I really hope this gets more attention because I need a fun way to learn how to program things otherwise I will always be a dumb artist.

Shiness

I'm intrigued enough by the video alone to support this French RPG.

BUT they get a pass for not being native English speakers.

An old friend of mine has a Kickstarter campaign to help launch GlomTom, an ergonomic lap pillow thingy for gaming.

Will it protect my swimmers from the heat?!!?

Edit: That would've made more sense if I had read correctly and it was to help with laptops in your lap.

Edit: $65?!?! Damn, I'll use a pillow.

Rifftrax wants to riff Godzilla... the 1998 Matthew Broderick disaster.

It had better be a DM-Curse and not a DM-IceTombs

Speaking of which, when is he going to finally launch a KS for his upcoming game?

I didn't realize he was doing anything other than driving his Lamborghini around and tweeting pictures of car spoilers with the tag #spoileralert.

Are they hiring?

Darn it, I had read "Cliffy B" as "Clint Hocking", and then this post confused me. I see what I want to see.

$100k to finish the game? They're nuts.

They list seven people on the team, so $100K/7 gives rougjhly $15k/per person average. At a salary rate of $60k/annum, that only buys them 3 months. That's not counting kickstarter's cut or rewards fulfillment or the hardware/software licenses they claim they need. You can quibble over whether they need 7 people, but I don't think that's outrageous.

Besides, they're basically at $93k right now with 30 days left to go, so in that sense, it seems clear that even if they had set a lower amount they would've blown past $100k anyways.

No, you misunderstand me. $100k is WAY TOO LOW to finish the game and fulfill a bunch of tiers of kickstarter rewards. They mention the team is strong with project management, but they may need someone stronger with budget.

Well on that side of the coin, I reckon they're going to overshoot by a fair bit.

I just want the soundtrack.
