Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

Shut. Up.

The Manhattan Project: Digital Edition - The Board game in iPad, Android, PC, and Mac form.

Never bought the board game, but now I think I'll get both (thanks to Rabbit's praise of the game).

Also bring up Faeria again as they hit their first goal, want them to get guild support, and there are only four days left till it ends. If people want to go in, I'll upgrade my pledge to the $100 tier so I can get four additional keys. I'll put in $40 the others pay $15 (retail is $25), but I get the vanity items... >.>;

PM if that interests anyone.

Interesting take on a deck of cards. I never wanted to buy any until I saw the artwork.

Also not gaming related..but man so sweet: 360 Camera developed by someone from Google that decided to run with it.

I've got Manhattan Project, and it's a really awesome worker placement game. Has just enough player interaction, and it's always a close race at the end of the game.

What I love about the Kickstarter project for the digital version is that, in theory, you should be able to do cross-platform multiplayer. So playing a game with someone on iOS, Android, PC, and Mac - all at the same time!

Thoughts on the expansion?

I pledged $15 yesterday so I can get into the beta and give it a shot before deciding if I want to up the pledge or cancel. I like their idea of making a digital CCG where you just pay a flat fee to enjoy the game without dumping more money into boosters. I think Scrolls works similarly?

It's optional. Everything gameplay related can be bought with in game credits, but you can also pay for packs.

I'm backing today.

...I didn't even know there was a promo pack (Nations) or expansion (Second Stage) OR a kickstarter last year to make a MEGA EXPANSION

Come to think of it, I can't really remember where I picked up Manhattan Project in the first place...

Isn't second stage the mega expansion? I thought that one included 4 expansions?

Not sure if they've been posted yet but people should take a look at Paradise Lost: First Contact and Stasis. Two good looking sci-fi PC games. Paradise Lost is a metroidvania style game while Stasis is an isometric horror adventure game with an alpha build available for download. Not sure if I'll back Stasis since horror isn't really my thing but the footage they have already looks pretty good and a playable alpha/demo is a great thing to see in the pitch.

EDIT: There's also Bolt Riley which appears to be yet another traditional P&C adventure game. This one is interesting to me because it's hook is reggae culture and the rise to fame of the main character. I don't have a huge interest in reggae music or culture, but this seems like a unique theme/setting for a game, and certainly something that you won't find in the AAA space.

Ah. I still haven't given it a shot, but last I knew they were collecting a fee to get access but I don't remember if that was just to pay for development costs during the beta or if that was the final business model.

I'd just like to re-quote this. It looks pretty good and will probably be a nice change from the usual dungeon crawls. Also I appreciate that they've decided to forego physical stretch goals.

Did you really just link a Kickstarter that was linked ONE POST ABOVE YOURS?!

That gave me strong vibes of Mushishi.

Shhh, I want to see how long it takes them to notice I had a link in my wall of text :p

Bah, I looked too. Saw Paradise Lost: First Contact and didn't see the next link right after it.

Isn't the proper response for that "filthy skimmer" or somesuch?

Just played the first two tutorial missions. Good stuff so far.

EDIT: Thinking more about this, what I like is how they've done a cool thing by blending the resource economies from Magic and Netrunner. No seriously. You have 3 action points each turn which allow you to play cards, draw cards or generate resources. That's straight out of Netrunner. You have a fourth option which allows you to put down a generic land tile. And then you have a set of options that allow you to upgrade a generic land tiles into one of the four faction lands. It's simple, elegant, and a great way to fix the "land screw/flood" issue from M:tG.

Definitely upping the pledge tonight. Do we need a dedicated thread for this?

I've been in the Faeria beta for a long time but never actually got a chance to check it out. From looking at the Kickstarter now, the pledge levels read like the $15 tier only gets the beta access and that you have to go to $25 to get the release version. Am I not understanding that correctly?

That's how I read it.

Can someone enable me on this? I'd love some beta impressions.

The 30 minute impression is that the UI is decent, but it's Flash in a browser without a mobile client (which would probably get me to play a lot more). Gameplay boils down to gathering resources, deploying troops (ie. your cards), and building up the map so that you can reach your opponent's orb. Once you deal enough damage to the orb you win. You get 3 actions per turn which are used to gain gold (the standard resource), create land tiles, upgrade land tiles, or draw a card. Every 3 turns the game adds Faeria resources to the map in predetermined tiles. You use your units to harvest the Faeria from the tiles, and you also use them to attack the opponent's orb or their creatures.

So it's a combination of CCG and a traditional board game, and it feels fairly unique with a solid design. As the pitch says, there's no microtansactions that allow you to buy cards but there will be microtransactions for cosmetic changes. In the 30 minutes I played doing the first two solo quests I earned enough currency to pick up two more faction starters or two booster packs of the lowest tier.

Proxy Wars.

Where was this when I was still doing table top wargaming (i.e. WH40K)? Custom kitbash from their list of parts, then they 3d print them for you. Textures, colors, the (expensive) option for an original design made to your specifications.

Dayam.

Holy hell. If you only want to ship to the States, just say so. $45 for out-of-US shipping? A that price, they better be hand delivering my mini wrapped in a steak...

As I mentioned in the HEX thread, I've got a $100 pledge on Faeria right now. If any non-Coffee Grinder is interested in checking out the beta but doesn't want to put down money on a pledge send me a PM. I think I've got some extra codes for beta access.

Edit: turns out these are beta/release codes. If anyone misses the KS or wants cheaper access I'm asking for $10 which gets you a key like the $25 pledge.

Yeah, I got pinged to this from $75 ERFWORLD SIDEKICKS PACK. 75 for 3 28mm minis is REALLY expensive T_T

Chipolo - Bluetooth physical tag thing for locating your stuff with a mobile phone

I don't remember where I read it but I can definitely see why KS is considered a place to find "solutions for the problems of affluent 20-30 somethings living in urban environments".

The name makes me want to find a burrito.

I just got the shipping notification on my copy of Ogre Designer's Edition. Kickstarters DO come true!

Me too! Should be arriving at my doorstep on Thursday, causing a major gravitic distortion.

Edit: total shipment weight 30.6 lbs

Me: "Hey hun, guess what weighs 30 pounds and will be on our doorstep on Wednesday?"

Got an email that the Sails of Glory packs will be landing in the US soon. Man, I can't wait to get that game.
