Interesting Kickstarter Catch-All

HEARTBREAK: Metal coins on Rising Sun are an add-on not a stretch goal. $20 for 65 of them (enough for 6 players)

The Out-of-Office Calendar

Ended unsuccessfully, I'm afraid.

I'm not shocked by that. I mean, who the hell wants a countdown until the next election starting now? Even CNN isn't doing that yet.

Well they're already plastic without it, so at least you won't have cardboard coins either way.

I know. I want metal coins pretty badly but I don't think I want them to the tune of $20.

Someone in the KS comments linked to an under $5 option for similar metal coins. Shipped from China and takes 3-6 weeks to arrive, but that's still months and months ahead of the game itself.

oooo!

Bought!

Or you can go to Japan, pay for everything at convenience stores with cash, and keep all the 1 Yen coins you get.

Seriously, I have at least 100 of those bloody things from just two weeks of 1-4 of them per-purchase.

$5 or ticket to Japan? Hmmmm.

Fyi re Rising Sun Kickstarter. If it turns out like Blood Rage it isn't a bad financial decision either. I just sold all of my KS exclusives from Blood Rage on ebay for $450+. I kept the base game and expansions so basically got paid to get the game. I'm down to do that again.

I don't comprehend humans. Even if I was a billionaire and $450 was indistinguishable from $0, I still couldn't enter into that transaction as a buyer.

They're exclusives.

Yeah me either. I felt I couldn't keep them given their value.

Jeez, I need to start backing some Kickstarters with stretch goal doohickeys and gewgaws that have value for superfans.

In fairness, I bought the Kickstarter version of Blood Rage, and even for $450 I can't think about selling the exclusives. I wouldn't PAY that amount of money for them, but I wouldn't part with them for that, either.

I have been toying with the idea of buying 2 sets of KS Rising Sun and holding one for a year before selling it on eBay. It's a multi-year investment between KS fulfilment and waiting for the initial glut of KS eBay sales, but on the grand scale of things, it's probably a relatively safe, high-yield one.

I got a pin from the penny arcade Automata KS a couple years back. Apparently those pins sell for $300-500. Crazy.

I ended up backing this. It looks like King of Tokyo meets Battletech, which appeals to my large small child mentality.

Looks nice, but that's such a steep price already and the add-ons seem expensive on top of that.

I'll be very interested to check out this game once it hits retail, though.

Dang, I was really hoping that it was based on the movie - that was one of my favorites...

Looks interesting though!

When Creative Director Christopher Obritsch's daughter Madelyn wanted to be in Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, and fight “Green Head,” he said it was someone else’s game - but he could make her a new game. “But girls can’t be knights, Daddy. Only boys!” she said, to which he answered “Pshh…What color do you want your armor to be?” The answer was pink! And that’s how this game started. Chris's daughter Madelyn loves the first stage of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts and makes him play it over and over again. Why? Because she wants to see him fight “Green head," the Shielder boss at the end of the first stage. It’s not hard for her to twist his rubber arm, as it’s been his favorite game since it came out - all those years ago.

Battle Princess Madelyn is now up on Kickstarter

Man, CMON wants ALL the monies. They just revealed the (first?) expansion for Rising Sun, "Dynasty Invasion", which contains the 7th and 8th clans, as well as seven "lucky gods" that those clans recruit rather than monsters. It's a $50 add-on. If you also get the metal coins and the extra large playmat, you're at $200 before shipping - and they haven't revealed the art book yet! They said there woukd be relatively few optional buys, so maybe that will be it.

The Blood Rage Kickstarter was a bargain by comparison. You could get everything but the art book for $105 before shipping. I'm guessing they looked at eBay prices shortly after the release (when you could get the same stuff for about $225) and said "We need to get a bigger cut of that!"

I haven't pledged for anything but the base game yet, but I'm sure I'll get this expansion. It makes me a lot more hesitant to the other, purely cosmetic add-ons, though.

Yep they want all the money. Luckily backers are starting to appear again for my game. woot! Hopefully they don't disappear.

The fact that there are plastic clan tokens for the core 5 and Fox, but not for the 2 clans in the expansion makes me twitch, though. Especially given that they've added plastic alliance markers and strongholds as KS exclusives for the expansion buy.

Which tokens are missing?

Edit: Oh, I see! You are right. I'm going to comment.

Edit 2: Wait, you're not right. Plastic clan tokens are a universal, non-KS exclusive upgrade.

Are you sure?
From their page:

Of course, the Sun and Moon Clans would feel pretty ashamed of themselves if they only had cardboard Strongholds and Alliance tokens when they met their opponents stylish plastic pieces. If you get the Dynasty Invasion Optional Buy in this campaign, you will also get all the Kickstarter Exclusive plastic Strongholds and Alliance markers to supply the Sun and Moon clans.

He was talking about what's described as "Clan Tokens", which are different, but as I posted in my 2nd edit, those are now plastic for all Rising Sun clans and boxes, Kickstarter or not.

Ahh, ok.

Still on the fence about getting this. If I do, I'd probably spring for the expansion as well, maybe.

This looks really cool. I'm super tempted by this.

Still not convinced; the unlock says "for all Core boxes," and the Sun and Moon clans aren't part of that. Is there something explicit that's included those as well?

I'm also somewhat suspicious since there's no pictures of plastic Sun and Moon clan markers anywhere in that monster image yet. CMON's pretty detail-oriented for their Kickstarters, and to me, it's telling that there's nothing there.

Edit: Never mind; they're listed in the Dynasty Invasion update among components.

Btw speaking of Rising Sun, a CMON employee commented today that the Kami Unbound stuff (including minis for the Kami) is part of the base pledge but not part of the base box. Since they aren't KS exclusive, I assume this means it will be an expansion at retail. This makes the Kickstarter base pledge more attractive from a value perspective; I'm surprised they haven't made it clear on the website. Maybe they'll do so once all the content in it is "unlocked".
